Authorities in Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State have apprehended a cemetery worker and two accomplices after they were found in possession of five human skulls. The arrests occurred on Sunday at the Murikaz area cemetery, where local security operatives made the shocking discovery.
Officials from the Isokoko Police Station confirmed the incident and indicated that the case would be handed over to the State Investigation Department for further investigation. A police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, assured the public that efforts are underway to locate additional suspects believed to be involved in this disturbing case.
An eyewitness, Mr. Isiaka Amosu, reported to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the suspects were allegedly collaborating with a cemetery attendant named Ismaila to illicitly obtain human body parts. Amosu recounted how local security operatives became suspicious after noticing a bag left on a fence at the back of the cemetery.
Curious about its contents, the operatives observed two men approach the bag. When confronted, the suspects initially claimed the bag contained only leaves. However, under pressure, they opened it to reveal another bag containing five severed human heads.
The suspects reportedly confessed that they had conspired with the cemetery worker, who was said to be seeking financial gain through these illegal activities. Amosu also revealed that the same cemetery worker had been arrested approximately six months ago for a similar offense involving a human head, prompting him to temporarily leave the area.
This alarming incident has raised concerns about security and criminal activities in the Agege community, as authorities work diligently to ensure the safety of residents.
