The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of 33-year-old Onoriode Augustine, accused of orchestrating multiple kidnappings of minors in the Ijebu-Ode area. Augustine was paraded before reporters on Friday at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, as police continue their search for an accomplice identified only as Akpan, who remains at large.
Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu addressed the press, revealing that Augustine confessed to kidnapping more than ten children, all of whom were released to their families after ransoms were paid. The commissioner detailed how Augustine and his partner specifically targeted young victims in the Ijebu-Ode area, using various deceptive tactics to lure them.
“Augustine and his accomplice Akpan have used misleading methods to capture their targets, posing as people looking to rent a car battery or seeking accommodations,” Alamutu explained. He added that two recent abduction cases involved this same approach, leading to the kidnappings of Adeogun Oluwasegun and Jonathan Favour on September 17 and 22, respectively.
The arrests underscore Ogun State Police’s intensified efforts to maintain security, with Alamutu affirming that steps are underway to bring Akpan to justice. The command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as they work to dismantle the network behind these crimes.
