Chaos erupted briefly at the Obehie Magistrate Court in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State on Friday when a section of the courtroom ceiling suddenly collapsed during proceedings.
The unexpected incident caused alarm among those present, though fortunately, no injuries were reported. According to a local resident, the court building had shown visible signs of decay for several years, with structural issues worsening over time until part of the ceiling finally gave way.
Following the initial shock, the presiding magistrate, Nnenna Nwogwugwu, temporarily suspended proceedings. After a brief break, however, she resumed the session to ensure all scheduled cases for the day were addressed.
The incident has renewed calls from community members for urgent repairs to the aging court infrastructure to prevent future disruptions and ensure the safety of all court attendees.
