A Nigerian man has alleged that police officers attached to the Awkunanaw Police Station, MTD, Garriki, Enugu, abducted his younger brother and extorted ₦1 million from him.
The man made the accusation on X (formerly Twitter), claiming that his brother was intercepted by officers while traveling to Umuahia. According to his account, the officers diverted the victim to an undisclosed village, where they forced him to withdraw ₦1 million at a POS shop.
Following the incident, he provided an update stating that the officers involved had been identified and the stolen money recovered. He credited the swift action of Mr. Chukwuegu Longinus, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Awkunanaw Police Station, for resolving the matter.
“₦1 million recovered from Nigerian police officers attached to Awkunanaw Police Station, MTD, Garriki, Enugu,” he shared online. “Thanks to DPO Awkunanaw Police Station, Mr. Chukwuegu Longinus. Immediately I reported the case, he drove straight to the checkpoint, identified the officers involved, and mandated them to refund the money. Omoh, it’s a mess here in Nigeria.”
The man also posted photos of the recovered money and expressed gratitude to those who helped resolve the issue.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many condemning the misconduct of the officers and calling for stricter measures to address corruption and abuse of power within law enforcement agencies.
