Operatives from the Adamawa State Police Command have apprehended three youths linked to the notorious Shila Boys gang, known for their involvement in armed robbery.
The arrest occurred early on Sunday, December 29, 2024, when the suspects were caught attacking and robbing individuals heading to church for morning prayers. The incident took place on Bishop Street in Jimeta, a road that leads to several prominent churches, including St. Theresa Cathedral and the headquarters of Living Faith Church in Yola.
In a statement, police spokesman SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed the arrest, revealing that the action followed credible intelligence. The suspects were found with machetes, knives, ATM cards, mobile phones, and a tricycle.
The operation to apprehend the suspects was met with resistance. According to Nguroje, the individuals aggressively attacked police officers with machetes and knives in an attempt to evade capture.
“In a bid to neutralize the attack, minimum force was used,” Nguroje stated, confirming that three suspects were arrested, while two others managed to flee the scene.
The three detained suspects are receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the confrontation and are currently assisting with the investigation. The police continue to search for the two fleeing individuals.
This arrest has raised concerns about the increasing activities of armed robbers targeting vulnerable citizens, especially in areas near religious institutions. Authorities have assured the public that efforts to curb such crimes will be intensified.
