A seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akinde, who was abducted last week from her mother's shop in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, has been successfully rescued by the Ogun State Police Command. The operation, led by Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo, resulted in the arrest of all suspects involved in the abduction.
The rescue operation took place in Ayetoro, Ogun State, where the Anti-Kidnapping Team located Mercy and apprehended the suspects. Further details are expected to be provided during a press briefing by the Commissioner of Police on Monday.
The abduction had previously sparked public concern, especially following reports that police officers initially mishandled the case by allegedly demanding N40,000 from the complainant to process the case. The Ogun State Police Command acknowledged the unprofessional conduct and stated that disciplinary actions have been initiated against the erring officers.
