Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the escalating rate of kidnapping and killings in Nigeria.
Obi’s remarks come on the heels of recent abductions, including the kidnapping of two Catholic reverend sisters by unknown gunmen in Anambra State.
According to Obi, “no one is currently spared from the dangerous wind of many kidnappings and killings blowing through many parts of the nation.”
He emphasized via X on Thursday that every Nigerian feels the heat of insecurity, which affects every aspect of the nation, from agriculture to health and education.
Obi condemned the killing of” the Manager of the College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala,” and the abduction of the two “reverend sisters.”
He described the victims as individuals contributing immensely to national development through their sacrifices “in remote villages.”
The former Anambra State Governor further appealed to the government to employ every security measure to end the menace and ensure the safe rescue of those in captivity.
“This worrisome situation continues to demand urgent attention from us, the leaders,” Obi added.
Obi’s concerns echo the growing anxiety among Nigerians regarding the country’s security challenges.
