Controversial Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has lashed out at fans of detained social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) who urged him to join the ongoing “Free VDM” protests.
VeryDarkMan was reportedly arrested last Friday, allegedly by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), sparking outrage among youths who have since taken to the streets, demanding his release.
However, during a live session on social media on Monday, Speed Darlington was visibly upset when some viewers asked him to show solidarity by participating in the protest.
The singer, known for his outspoken nature, questioned the sincerity of the demands, reminding fans that no one stood up for him during his own legal troubles.
“How many of you protest, did you protest for me? God punish you! You come my page to disrespect me. Your mates are hustling, trying to make something of their lives…” he fired back.
Speed Darlington’s response has stirred mixed reactions online, with some supporting his stance while others criticized his unwillingness to back the movement.
