The contest, held in conjunction with Toyota's distributors across the world, was conducted between the last quarter of last year and the first quarter of this year.
A statement by Toyota Nigeria Limited on Monday gave the theme of the programme as "The Toyota Dream Car Art Contest."
The essence was to cultivate a creative prowess among people while they were still young.
"Eligible to participate in the national contest were students in the secondary and primary schools cutting across three different age categories," it said.
It explained that category one was for children under 10 years; category two for those between ages 10 years and 12 years; and the category three took care of young people within the ages of 13 years and 15 years.
The TNL said schools in the public and private sectors across the six geo- political zones of Nigeria participated in the contest.
"At the end of the exercise, over 200 entries from participants were collated and a panel of creative arts professionals was constituted to do a careful selection using environmental friendliness, safety and futuristic as yardsticks for selection," the statement added.
The 15 best entries, according to the firm, received their certificates of excellence at the Toyota's new office in Lekki.
The Managing Director, TNL, Mr. Krishnadas Thampy, and the General Manager, Operations, Mr. Kunle Ade-Ojo, presented the certificates to them, it said.
The children were presented with mini-lap tops and other beautiful corporate gifts, in addition to the certificates. The auto firm said that the items would make the memory of the contest indelible on their minds for a long time to come.
"Each category was expected to produce five winning entries, which would be sent to Japan to contest with entries from other parts of the world.
"The over all winner in each category will have the opportunity to travel to Japan to attend the award ceremony, which will feature presentation of special jury's award as well as world's finalist award."
The company quoted a parent of one of the finalists, Prof. Sam Ugbomoiko, as saying that the idea of cultivating children's creative genius early in their lifetime would not only stimulate unparalleled academic excellence but also energise the passion for creativity and arts in them.
He commended Toyota for the initiative, describing the firm as a standard setter in Nigeria.
"This gesture on the part of Toyota is tantamount to opening a novel vista in the realm of imparting knowledge and mental development of children across the world in general and in Nigeria in particular," he added.
He also noted that the exercise would go a long way in creating emotional bonds of sorts between the brand and the participating children, thus making Toyota the brand of the future.
