In the South Australian Supreme Court today, David Richard Fraser, 36, pleaded guilty to the murder of 28-year-old Luke Noonan during the sex act in September 2009.
Mr Noonan's body was found on a bed in Fraser's suburban West Beach flat with a belt wrapped around his neck.
A post-mortem examination determined he died from strangulation.
At the opening of Fraser's trial earlier this month, prosecutor Sandra McDonald told the court the pair had been involved in a sometimes volatile relationship and a key issue in the case would be Fraser's state of mind and what he knew about strangulation at the time of Mr Noonan's death.
To that end, she told the jury that Fraser had been jailed for manslaughter over a similar death in 2005 when he applied pressure to a shoelace around the man's neck during a sex act.
