President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, appealed to members of the political class, the electorate and fellow Nigerians to ensure that this years general elections are conducted in an atmosphere of peace, harmony, mutual respect and healthy competition.

He made this appeal yesterday while commissioning the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Customs Barracks, built for senior army officers in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Mr Jonathan said Nigeria cannot afford to be distracted by acts of mindless violence and dividing tendencies at this critical period of the nation's history. "I like to use this opportunity to appeal to members of the political class, the electorate and all Nigerians to ensure that the 2011 general elections, which come up in another 38 hours, are conducted in an atmosphere of peace, harmony, mutual respect and healthy competition," he said.
