The hope of no fewer than 200 candidates to write the ongoing National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) appears to have been dashed as a fake registration agent collected over N22, 000 each from the students and disappeared into thin air.

The students went on rampage in Ilorin at the weekend for failure of the agent, simply identified as Mr. Kayode, to register them for the Senior School Certificate Examination, which was expected to start at the weekend. One of the candidates, Shittu Sarafadeen, told newsmen that the agent was operating a coaching centre at Eruda Primary School in Ilorin and collected N22, 000 as registration fee from each student. He said their names, however, were not on the list of candidates who would be conveyed to the examination venue in Ogbomoso, Oyo State last Friday.

“The agent said he had registered us for the examination at Alayin Secondary School after Ogbomoso in Oyo state, but to our dismay, our names were conspicuously missing on the list of students who would be conveyed to the venue of the examination that will start tomorrow.“What we are waiting for now is for him to refund our money,” he added. Mother of one of the candidates, who preferred anonymity, said she came to collect the fee her daughter paid to the agent, as she was not interested in the examination again.

She, however, admitted that the agent had earlier assisted her daughter to register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the examination photo card had been handed over to her.
“We had been at the departure venue for several hours waiting for the agent to convey the candidates to the examination centre, only for him to come and narrate a story that he had problem in registering some of the candidates,” she added.

All efforts by Daily Sun to reach the agent proved abortive, as his mobile phone was switch off.
