An official police statement has claimed that one suicide bomber and the traffic policeman who tried to intercept him as he drove into the Police Force HQ were the only two fatalities from this morning's explosion.
A powerful explosion rocked the Police Force headquarters in Abuja around 10:58 am Thursday morning, destroying the car in which the explosive device was conveyed and setting other cars within the vicinity on fire. The impact from the blast shook the whole Louis Edet Building, destroying some of its glass.
An eye witness claims that the suicide bomber was bearded and had attempted driving in behind IGP Ringim who was just returning from Maiduguri this morning.
The blast comes just a day after the Boko Haram group in Maiduguri issued a warning that it was going to carry out more attacks in other northern cities and the federal capital in response to IGP Ringim's comment that there days were numbered.
Many wounded victims have been transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for the attacks.
