Fielding questions from our correspondent at National Hospital, Iserhien said he was returned to the theatre for a second operation following some complications.
He said, ‘‘Something like pieces of broken bottle’’ were removed from his eye during the operation.
‘‘I am praying to God to ensure that I see with my eye again,” he said, pleading with leaders of the Boko Haram “to reconcile with whoever has made them to be tormenting innocent people’’
Iserhien explained that he had gone to the UN to submit a proposal when a man recklessly drove into the UN premises in a Honda Accord.
He said, “I went to the UN House to submit a proposal and the security gave me a form which I filled before he handed a tag number to me. As I was going to the reception, I saw a Honda Accord speeding through the first gate to the second gate.
“I asked people the mission of the man that was driving that way. I started turning back because there was no way I could enter the reception. Immediately, I heard a blast and I fell down but got up and started running.
“Something from the bomb hit one part of my body, my legs and my eyes. I was not able to see with my right eye, but people rushed me to the hospital, and then I was taken straight to the theatre.
‘‘I left the theatre today (Monday) after another operation on the eye. I am now receiving treatment.”
Asked the nature of the complication, he replied, “I was told that something like pieces of broken bottle entered my eyes, this informed the second operation. The doctors have removed the broken bottle and everything and so I am using eye drops now.
“They said after it has cleared, I may still see with it but it won’t be as clear as the second eye . But for now, I can’t see with it.”
