A lecturer in the Department of Meteorology of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, Dr Tunji Akinlabi, has been kidnapped by gunmen numbering about six.

Consequently, the abductors, youths between the ages of twenty and twenty five, have demanded for N15m ransom from the family of the lecturer.

Akinlabi was reportedly kidnapped late on Friday as he was about driving to his residence located at his Stateline-Aule Road.

The kidnappers had telephoned his wife 12 hours after he was abducted and warned against involving the police or any security agency.

His shout for help, according to sources, proved abortive as the gunmen shot sporadically  to scare his neighbours as he was bundled into his Toyota Serena car and driven away  to an unknown destination.

The vice-chancellor, Professor Adebisi Balogun, and other principal officers of the university have visited the residence of Akinlabi, expressing  shock at the development.

Speaking on the development, FUTA, Deputy Registrar, Information and Protocol, Omololu Adegbenro, described the kidnap as worrisome and unfortunate.

Crime is everywhere! Can we live in a peaceful community now?Do you think can we achive it?If everything is being kidnap? For many, these are desperate occasions. Dognapping seems to be the one crime on the rise as yearly crime rates drop nationally. Some find the pattern indicative of the poor economic climate. Others, however, see more mundane reasons for the pattern. Article source: Are dognappings yet another sign of uncertain financial times.this is not going to be a good one.
