NIGERIA--A man (names withheld) allegedly ordered his former employee to be shot twice by a security guard for daring to visit his office after he had been dismissal from work.
The victim, Simon Ekechi, whose right leg was shattered in the incident, worked as a driver with a company that sells iron rods, in Ogbaru, Anambra State, before his appointment was terminated.
The Nigerian Compass gathered that Ekechi was fired from his job after the company's truck he was taking to Lagos developed a major fault along the Benin-Lagos expressway and had to be towed back to the office.
The victim, who spoke to our correspondent on his hospital bed, claimed the company did not pay him his outstanding salary and terminal benefits following his sack.
Not yet done with the victim, the company also lodged a complaint with the police accusing him of selling part of the diesel he bought for the trip to Lagos after the truck became faulty.
He was, consequently, arrested and detained at the Okpoko Police Station.
He was later arraigned at a Chief Magistrate’s Court, at Atani, in Ogbaru Local Government Area, on one-count charge of theft. He was granted bail after pleading not guilty to the charge.
A fews days after regaining his freedom, he visited his former company to meet with a former colleague, who promised to assist him in getting a new job. He was, however, spotted by his former boss, who immediately ordered an armed security guard to shoot him.
He was consequently shot twice on his right leg by the guard.
While Ekechi was left to writhe in pain, his former boss left for the police station, with the security guard that fired the shots, to allege that the victim had come to his office to threaten his life.
The security guard, according to Ekechi, however, admitted in his statement that it was his boss that ordered him to shoot the unharmed victim.
Meanwhile, human rights group, Campaign for Democracy (CD), which had vowed to pursue justice on behalf of the victim, has warned the police against any form of partiality in their investigations.
CD said it had been reliably informed that the police were viewing the incident as an accident and not a deliberate attempt on the victim's life.
It added that it had already petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, in its bid to ensure justice was not turned on its head in the matter.
P.S DON'T HATE ME BCOZ OF WHAT COMES OUT OF MY MOUTH, I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT MYSELF, SO phyukOFF..
