My wife denies me sex since I married her, man tells court

Lagos – A respondent in a divorce suit on Thursday told a customary court in Lagos that he always had to force himself on his wife for sex throughout their eight-year marriage.

“Ever since I started living with my wife, she denies me sex; I had to force myself on her before we had our four children,’’ Mr Chukwudi Obi submitted before a Grade “B” Customary Court in Oshodi.

Chukwudi was responding to a petition by his wife, Nkechinyere, seeking a court order to stop his alleged planned marriage to his girlfriend.

He told the court that Nkechinyere threatened to stab him with a knife in 2010 when he attempted to have sex with her.

“Since she started living with me in 2003, my wife would always find it difficult to have sex with me; I do not know what her problem is.

“Don`t you think it is strange to hear that we had our four children through the use of force? ”.

“When I saw that things were getting out of hand, I took her and the children to the village so that her parents could talk sense into her,’’Chukwudi submitted.

He said that he was ready for divorce because he was fed up with the segxwal starvation.

The respondent submitted that he would still be providing for the four children after divorce.

He denied an allegation by his wife that he abandoned his family because of his girlfriend.

“I did not abandon them as she said because I was sending her N10,000 on monthly basis to take care of the children; I have the tellers here,” he said.

The respondent tendered some bank deposit slips as evidence before the court.

Nkechinyere had alleged that Chukwudi abandoned her and the children because he was planning to marry his girlfriend on December 10.

The Court President, Alhaja A.I. Olorunimbe, ordered the respondent to continue to pay his wife N10,000 monthly for the children’s upkeep, pending the determination of the suit.

She ordered that the status quo be maintained, and enjoined the parents of both parties to explore means of resolving their conflicts.

The court president adjourned the case till Jan. 27, next year for report of settlement. (NAN)
