thats the spirit of IGBOS, congratulations brother Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

You see...........your tribal-oriented mind looses control again. When Prof.Wole Soyinka made Nigeria and Africa proud in Literature, there was no TRIBAL acclamations. Also when Koffi Anna of Ghana attained the highest position in the world, it was not Ghana pride but Africa's.
Nelson Mandela, though a South African, is an African pride and figure. Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, etc....... were happy and proud to call themselves Africans and they fought for equality and UNITY especially in Africa and we are proud of them.
But here you are with your egocentric tribal pride. hailing IGBOS
Have you imagined how he got the highest vote of all the nominees, if not that all Africans, all blacks and all BLACK LOVING people around the world there present voted for him? Angry Shocked Huh? Embarrassed

Hmm. Prof Soyinka is no doubt a great Nigerian. But one wonders how much of history and world politics you actually know. Ever heard that Achebe was the one actually going to get the Nobel Prize in Literature in the 1980s? He was only denied because he refused to travel to Europe to "discuss" African literature. He insisted African literature must be "discussed" in Africa.

When I mentioned Wole Soyinka, I am not being tribal. I am from south south western part of Nigeria.

If Chinua  Achebe had won the prize, I would be as happy as I am with Wole Soyinka winning it. All that matters is that they make Nigeria and Africa proud, just as I am proud of JJ Okocha, Kanu Unwankwo, etc...who made Nigeria and Africa proud in sport.
Achebe was not denied  any Nobel Prize because one can not win if one do not partake in an event.
That he refused to travel to Europe to discuss African Literature was not, to me, right because it was a world, and not African, Literature event. The body that organized the event already agreed it will take place in Europe. Just like the Nobel Peace Prize is been organized in Norway. You do not expect water to come from the River to you at home when you do not go to fetch it.
