In what appears to be a desperate move to stop the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) strike, set to commence tomorrow, President Goodluck Jonathan, has appealed to Nigerians to see beyond today’s pains and focus on tomorrows gain over the removal of fuel subsidy.
He assured that the money will be properly channeled.

In a national broadcast last night, President Jonathan, who probably said he would have reacted the same way had he been in the shoes of Nigerians, pleaded that he was not out to inflict pains on Nigerians but as President he needed to make tough choices to safeguard the economy and our collective survival as a nation.

He assured that his administration was prepared to make sacrifices, announcing measures to cut the size and cost of governance, including the continuous effort to reduce size of current expenditure and increase capital spending.

He directed that overseas travels by all political office holders including the president be reduced to the barest minimum. The size of delegations on foreign trips is also to be drastically reduced, stressing that only trips that are absolutely necessary will be approved.
He has also directed that for the year 2012, the basic salaries of all political office holders in the executive arm be reduced by 25%.

This is complete madness. Why apply anathesia after you have started the surgery. The best way to regain the trust & loyalty of Nigerians is to revert to N65 per litre, then after we finish the consultations you can start the removal from April which was the month you promised you will start to remove the subsidy. If you can't keep an ordinary date of implementing a policy how do we trust you to even use the money to do the things you said you will use them for. We have heard these lyrics before, please come out clean & lets start from N65 per litre
