The police in Lagos have arraigned a 25-year-old garri trader, Ms Fatima Ajoke, for injuring another trader, Ms Tobore Tega 27. The prosecutor, Inspctor Philip Emokpae, told an Ojo Magistrates’ Court that the accused, who resided at Cele, Ilaje Ojo area of Lagos, committed the offence on January 25. Emokpae said that the accused was facing a one-count charge of causing serious bodily harm to her co-trader in the market. He said the duo were both interested in selling their products to the same customer, adding that the accused claimed she was the first to attract the customer.
The prosecutor said the accused attacked the complainant when she tried to lure her customer, a development that resulted into a serious fight. Emokpae said that during the fight, the accused held firmly to the hair of the complainant and pulled it out making blood to come out from the head. The prosecutor said that the offence was contrary to Section 355 of the Criminal Code laws of Lagos state. Ajoke pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate J. A. Oshoma granted bail to the accused in the sum of N30,000, with two sureties who must depose to an affidavit of means. Oshoma adjourned further hearing to March 8. (NAN)
