The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Lamorde had been acting in the capacity since the former chairman, Mrs. Farida Waziri, was removed in controversial circumstances in late November 2011.

Lamorde’s confirmation followed an hour of grilling by senators.

He assured the senators that he would curb corruption in the agency, adding that all employees of the agency would be made to udnergo lie detector tests.

Born on December 20, 1962 in Mubi, Adamawa State, Lamorde is an Assistant Commissioner of Police. He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating with a BA in Sociology in 1984.

He enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in 1986, and from 1987 to 1988 worked at the Niger State Police Command in Minna. From 1988 to 1989 he was Divisional Crime Officer in Rijau, Niger State. He then served as Police Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Police Command from 1989 to 1993.

In 1993, Lamorde was transferred to the Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, where he was charged with investigating advance fee fraud (419).
