The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 12-year-old boy, Ayuba Halilu, of Marraban Liman Katagum village near Bauchi, had before the incident also had his throat slashed by one Tukur Iliyasu, now at large.
Presenting the donation to the father, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Sani Malami, said that Gov. Isa Yuguda was shocked by the incident and that the money was to enable the family to take care of the victim's medical needs.
He pledged that the government would render further assistance for the up keep of the boy.
``If there is anything that the state government needs to do, it will do for the family, so we rely for further information from the family or community.''
The commissioner said that the governor had directed security agents to apprehend the assailant without further delay.
Malami denied that the victim was refused treatment at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital after the incident, saying the boy was admitted at the hospital for days before he was referred to Federal Medical Centre, Gombe.
Responding to the gesture, the father of the victim, Malam Halilu Liman, expressed gratitude to the state government for the gesture, adding that the boy’s survival after the horrific attack was a miracle to the family.
He said doctors at the hospital had told the family that the boy needed to be flown abroad for further treatment and appealed to the government to come to their aid.
The father also thanked a traditional chief in the area, the Barayan Liman Katagum, Malam Isa Abdullahi, for organising members of the village to raise money for the initial treatment of the boy.
