The power of passion is so great that it changes the brain chemistry. CEOs and entrepreneurs are constantly riding an emotional roller coaster, but some don't realize that, what's going on is more than just the normal ups and downs of business.

There are several disorder which most entrepreneurs suffer from and I'm not saying they were all clinically diagnosed. Still, symptoms of medical disorder are common among successful CEOs and entrepreneurs because mania helps executives to be passionate about their ideas, almost to the point of being zealots.

The following are common disorders, which could be mistaken as traits of entrepreneurs. These conditions are more of a psychological condition than a medical condition;
1. Sleeping Disorder
2. Eating Disorder
3. Bipolar Disorder
4. Social Anxiety Disorder

#1. Sleep Disorder

A sleep disorder, or somnipathy, is a medical disorder of the sleep patterns of a person. Some sleep disorders are serious enough to interfere with normal physical, mental, social and emotional functioning. Disruptions in sleep can be caused by a variety of issues, from teeth grinding to night terrors but in the case of an entrepreneur, it’s their business.

Who tend to lose sleep more than an entrepreneur? Every time you feel the need to shun sleep because there is just something to do, it’s a step closer to insomnia. Entrepreneurs who tend to deprive themselves of enough sleep have certain combine condition when they eventually sleep, like; Snoring, restless leg syndrome, sudden movement of arms and legs, sleepwalking, rapid eye movement during sleep and so on.

Sleeping is form of relaxation, just like meditating and massaging. It’s not a luxury but a necessity. Adequate sleep help the brain function well. And what make an entrepreneur if not the brain.

#2. Eating disorder

Working hard as an entrepreneur may be like second nature to many, all because you are enthusiastic and all charged up but it certainly doesn’t become an issue until you look back at your week and realize how many times you forgot to eat.

Eating disorder is common in CEOs and entrepreneurs. It is a psychological illnesses defined by abnormal eating habits that may involve either insufficient or excessive food intake to the detriment of an individual's physical and mental health. This is not caused by voluntary food restriction. This self-starvation is caused by the intense mental concentration on a task to the extent that signs of hunger are ignored.

Eating shouldn’t be by choice, it is a must. Food and drinks help keeps the body fully operational. So don’t wait till you have that ache in your head or rumble in your belly. Feed your body, feed your brain. Eat, Eat, Eat.

#3. Bipolar disorder
Many young entrepreneurs don't realize that most other entrepreneurs experience the same bouts of self doubt during low mood swings. The tendency to share with others when you're excited but keep to yourself when you're down is common not just for entrepreneurs. But when you are stressed, flooded with ideas, driven, restless, unable to keep still, and easily irritated by minor obstacles, then you are beginning to show signs of bipolar disorder.

Bipolar disorder, originally called manic-depressive illness, is a mental disorder characterized by periods of elevated mood and periods of depression. The elevated mood is significant and is known as mania or hypomania depending on the severity or whether there is psychosis. During mania an individual feels or acts abnormally happy, energetic, or irritable. They often make poorly thought out decisions with little regard to the consequences. The need for sleep is usually reduced. During periods of depression there may be crying, poor eye contact with others, and a negative outlook on life. The risk of suicide among those with the disorder is high at greater than 6% over 20 years, while self harm occurs in 30–40%.

The challenges, obstacles and disappointments experienced in the quest of being an entrepreneur is enough to drive one into being bipolar. Although you might feel the depression but I doubt if any real entrepreneur will hate their life enough to end it.

#4. Social anxiety disorder
It is a norm in most society to be an employee. Infact, many decade back it is a tradition to tailor the minds of young into aspiring to be one. Even the educational system tends to train people only on this aspect, to be an employee. Entrepreneurship thus seems to be very risky and for people who are overzealous and crazy. So when anyone decide to take this ‘forbidden’ path, they are met with serious criticism which them leads to self awareness and anxiety, which ultimately causes one to suffer from social anxiety disorder.

Social anxiety disorder, also called social phobia, is an anxiety disorder in which a person has an excessive and unreasonable fear of social situations. Anxiety (intense nervousness) and self-consciousness arise from a fear of being closely watched, judged, and criticized by others. A person with social anxiety disorder is afraid that he or she will make mistakes, look bad, and be embarrassed or humiliated in front of others. The fear may be made worse by a lack of social skills or experience in social situations. The anxiety can build into a panic attack. As a result of the fear, the person endures certain social situations like public speaking in extreme distress or may avoid them altogether. In addition, people with social anxiety disorder often suffer "anticipatory" anxiety -- the fear of a situation before it even happens -- for days or weeks before the event. In many cases, the person is aware that the fear is unreasonable, yet is unable to overcome it.

People with social anxiety disorder suffer from distorted thinking, including false beliefs about social situations and the negative opinions of others. This has resulted into many failed businesses and may also be the cause of many businesses yet to fail. Without treatment, social anxiety disorder can negatively interfere with the person's normal daily routine, including work, social activities, and relationships.

In conclusion
, the power of passion, excitement and enthusiasm, when it collides with the forces of stress, challenges, fear and criticism can result to several mental or psychological disorder that can greatly affect once live and living. So it is pertinent to understand the hurdles of being an entrepreneur and device ways and plans to keep your sound in both body and mind.

Wish you well in your quest for financial freedom and fulfillment.
