The prosecutor, Inspector Fola Takunbe, told the court that the accused could not explain how he got the ammunition. He was charged with unlawful possession of ammunition, an offence punishable under Section 428 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2003.
The charge against him reads: “That you, Bernard Inyang of no fixed address, at the aforementioned magisterial district, was unlawfully found in possession of two live ammunition (5.6mm) which you could not give a satisfactory account of and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 428 of the Criminal Code, Cap.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties by Magistrate Ogunkanmi.
The matter has been adjourned till 22 February, 2010 for mention.
