The United Nations AIDS programme has said that Nigeria records at least 1,000 new HIV infections every day.

A United States-based Nigerian news agency, Empowered Newswire, in a report on Thursday, said that UNAIDS declared that three million people were living with the condition in Nigeria.

According to the news agency, UNAIDS said, “There is a growing demand for access to treatment and prevention services in Nigeria, which can only be met by strengthening the current partnership between global, national and local partners.”

Commenting on the figures, the Director-General of the National Agency for AIDS Control, Prof. John Idoko, said that there was no cause for alarm.

“New infections in the country are between 370,000 and 380,000 annually. If you divide the figures by 350 days, it will be within that range,” he said.

The Minister of Health Minister, Prof. Babatunde Osotimehin, commended UNAIDS for mobilising the participation of non-governmental organisations, faith-based entities and the private sector to support the national AIDS response.

“This has helped us gain momentum in rolling out access to services. “We still have challenges. We are aware that resources are limited, but we must meet the expectations of the people we have mobilised,”he said.

Meanwhile, ahead of the 2010 World Cup, South Africa on Thursday announced that the supply of condoms would be doubled between June and July.

According to Daily News, the country‘s figure of HIV/AIDS stood at 5.7 million, more than any other country in the world.

Medical authorities in South Africa said they want to make sure there was plenty around in time for the games, which will be held in June and July.

“There’s going to be a large number of people who will be descending onto the country,” said Victor Ramathesele, general medical officer for South Africa‘s 2010 organising committee.

“There’s going to be a spirit of festivity and there could be a more than usual demand for measures such as condoms. So there are measures in place to ensure that the condom supply is going to be ramped up during this tournament,” he added.

After years when the South African government failed to provide lifesaving HIV/AIDS drugs, the nation now has the world’s biggest anti-retroviral programme.

Why are you saying it is a lie? This is what we were saying here in Jamaica that the HIV/AIDS report wasn't real. Instead of saying that it is a lie take precaution. I was diagnosed with this disease not because I was a prostitute but the man that I spend 5yrs with gave it to me. He came inside the relationship with the AIDS that is what he had when I know about our status after two years living with him and so I stay with him. Because I know about this condition in Nigeria my goal was to married a Nigerian and have a HIV/AIDS Foundation for Children Infected/Affect with this disease. To read more you can go to http://ksurrina.com.

This virus is spreading like wildfire because persons are not thinking of others. Some don't even know that they are living with the virus/disease because they never taken the test. Women are more likely to caught this disease because they are on the receiving end. In every country where this disease is populated it is greatest among females. Males who has already caught an STD are also at risk in catching this disease. When I came to NP my goal was to educate about it but there are a lot of Stigma and Discrimination here where this Health Issue is concern. All my close friends know about my diagnoses I have no time to hide it.

Instead of accusing UNAIDS about their report educate yourself and others. Don't wait until it reach close to home then you will start. Only the strong survive HIV/AIDS. There are persons who are living with it who are a shell just living. There are persons like me who are living with it who know that it is just a Virus and so my life continues on.

Today I was sitting down and told myself that my goal in marrying a Nigerian as ended and my joint foundation as well. But as I come here I saw this report and realized that what God as commanded me to do I have to do it.

Just remember don't ride bareback use a CONDOM EVERY TIME. Hugs and blessings

For the Record I was diagnosed with HIV and not AIDS. There is a difference between the two. One cannot caught AIDS they caught the HIV virus and after years of not treating the body properly or having additional sickness the Immune System breaks down which allow the Virus to spread more and then it goes to the AIDS stage. One can live with the Virus for years without taking medications. I am one of those who is not on medication.

Just take precautions and encourage others to do the same. Precautions such as:

1. Doing a HIV test with your Partner
2. Use a condom all the time
3. Having one faithful Partner
4. Being on the scene of an accident don't touch the blood that is around it. Universal Precautions is not only for Hairdressers, Barbers and those in the healthcare sector it goes for you too.

An remember that you cannot caught HIV by socializing with one who is infected.

Hugs and blessings

Every man should be careful of his wife bcos many of them can push their Husband to death for them to Herite the wealths, Look at how Nigerian's first Lady Hajia Turai Yar’Adua put Mr. President Yar’Adua to a public disgrace for everyone in the world, just because of presidential position. It's a pity.

THANKS FOR YOUR BRAVE SHARING OF THESE FACTS !

It might be equally advisable to get a personal hair clipper  for regular hair barbings for guys .  just in case .
People need to get to know their patners very well b4 going the extra mile  even at that its tood to ask if the risk of the transient pleasure people seek is honestly worth it .

Ksurrina ARE YOU SURE OF WHAT YOU ARE TELLING PEOPLE HERE,ARE YOU SURE THAT YOU HAVE HIV?I AM EVANGLIST ANTHONY I AM IN SENEGAL NOW,IF YOU ARE WITH HIV PLEASE CONTACT ME I WILL TELL YOU WHAT TO DO....GOD IS BIGER THAN HIV.....MAN OR WOMAN MUST TO STOP ANYTHING SEX WITHOUT MARRY.....When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. -John 11:3, 4,Jesus always did the will of God, and he never made anyone sick with HIV. In fact, he healed HIV  “...all that were oppressed of the devil...” (Acts 10:38-KJV). Therefore, God’s will must also be to heal people FROM HIV . Colossians 1:15 says that Jesus is the “…image of the invisible God...COME TO JESUS,IN  (1 John 5:19). First, it is essential to understand that God gave humans complete and genuine free will. Adam chose to sin, and thus brought disease, death, and destruction into the world. That is not God’s fault. The Fall unleashed a host of germs and viruses that were not part of God’s original plan.

Bible says: “Precious [costly or weighty] in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints” (Ps. 116:15). If we die before the Lord comes, our work here on earth is done, so all Christians who embrace this Hope should do as much as we can now for as long as we can. With that in mind, let us take a look at how diet can work to maximize the fruitfulness of our days here on earth.

HIV CAN NOT KILL WHILE WE ARE WITH GOD,WHEN YOU ARE WITH GOD YOU WILL NOT THINK OF SEX,MANY PEOPLE SEE SEX AS LOVE IT IS NOT,Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine...First, “He sent his word, and healed them…” (Ps. 107:20-KJV). God’s Word heals when it is received, understood, and believed.

Luke 4:18 and 19 (KJV)
(18) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
(19) To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
only did Jesus heal those who came to him with faith, he also empowered and instructed his disciples to do likewise:

Matthew 10:1
He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.God anointed Jesus with holy spirit power for his mission on earth, and, since his exaltation as “Lord,” Jesus has anointed each person who believes in him with the same gift of holy spirit. The Lord Jesus is still highly invested in energizing signs, miracles, and wonders,Thanks for your understanding and God be with you,and remain bless.....

this USAIDS report is true, but this doesn't means that all of us are going to be infected, why cos every day morethan this figure were born uninfected and every day  some of the infected figures were dying, so this means that if we take a preventive measures one day we will live in HIV/AIDS free society, it begins with you.
