In Nigeria, Gov. Peter Obi is perhaps one politician that has suffered more than the rest because of his penchant of doing things properly, which is alien to Nigerian politicians. He has nothing to regret because from every predicament of his, he has come out triumphant. Today he is the first Governor to remove a sitting Governor through the courts. He is an interesting topic in jurisprudence. Today, he is the first Governor to come back from impeachment through the courts.

The authors of the impeachment are the worse off today as Obi came out of it a hero. Today, he was the first governor to re-define the tenure of a governor via complex judicial interpretation. One can go on and on.
In Anambra of now, he is the central sea, all other seas are tributaries. Some characters have found it difficult to accept that Peter Obi remained the best thing to have happened to Anambra State. The verdict of men of goodwill and impartial observers are clear on this.

During the last coming of Mr. President to Anambra State, Hon. Uche Ekwunife was said to have held Dr Nwabueze Ngige’s hand and told him to his face that Obi was the best thing Anambra has witnessed. Ngige protested, but the truth is the truth, there is nothing he can do about it. Even Uche Ekwunife cannot do anything about it, she merely voiced out the universal truth that she has no control over.

Indeed, Ngige has been doing a lot to change the fact that Obi is the best thing Anambra State has witnessed. Shortly before the election of February, 2010, Ngige was prancing all over Anambra State inspecting projects that Obi was doing and telling people that he really started those projects or that he has completed the payment for those projects before Obi became the Governor. He did it so consistently that some people were deceived. When Obi was informed about it, he merely smiled to the annoyance of everybody, insisting that Ngige could claim anything he wanted that the only thing that gave him joy was the fact that those projects were located ion Anambra State.

The foregoing, we were told, was the reason why some of his lieutenants, even when he disagreed, started media tours, whereby they took groups and organizations round the projects of the Governor. This was the singular project that traumatized Ngige because it went to the root of the matter.
But Ngige would not give up. He proved this during the coming of the President to Anambra State on the 15th of October, 2010.

We commend Dr. Chris Ngige for attending; we thought that he would shun the event because Obi would shine. We were still commending him when he proved that he had another agenda for coming. He stealthily joined the buses conveying other Governors to the sites of the projects the President commissioned. Rather than join other Governors and distinguished Nigerians to commend Obi for doing so much in the State, Ngige was in his elements. What did he do? At each project the president commissioned, Ngige would tell the Governors that he started the project or that he completed the payment before he left office.

Out of the 20 projects commissioned by Mr. President, Ngige has hand in only one, the Zik’s Avenue. He awarded the contract and paid some money that was so small that the contractor said they would not start work on the road based on the amount. Till today some controversies are still surrounding what he paid and what he did not pay. It was Peter Obi who came and re-designed the project from one-lane to double lane. The other roads that were commissioned, Igboukwu-Oraeri-Akwaeze-Obeledu road, the Igbouwku- Aguluzigbo road, the Nri- Eneugwu-Ukwu road, the Agu-Akwa- Nibo-Nise Enugwu-ukwu ring roads have nothing to do with Ngige. The giant Secretariat, SEMA Building, ASUBEB Building have nothing to do with Ngige. The way he speaks, we were surprised he did not claim that he bought those 100 buses, 60000 laptops and 50 patrol vehicles which distribution was flagged off by the president before he was removed and that Obi only supervised the sharing.

I like Obi’s attitude towards Ngige. He has never pretended of noticing the man. This is good. The beautiful thing about what is happening in Anambra is that the development is for the benefit of the people of the State.
Let Obi please continue with building projects in the State and let Ngige continue claiming them, who cares!
