Kingsley Kanu, a brother to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has claimed the secessionist’s British passport is still in Kenya.

Kingsley said he spoke with Nnamdi while he was in Kenya, before “he went missing.”

He claims the IPOB leader was taking a walk when he was arrested and taken away without his documents.

Quote
“I spoke to him on the phone, he was well, in Nairobi. His associates said he went out, he didn’t take his documents with him; so he wasn’t planning on going anywhere. Then, all of a sudden, we see him paraded in handcuffs in Abuja.

“We are holding the Nigerian government and Kenyan government responsible. The British government, they know what is happening,” he told the UK Guardian

Kingsley also said UK officials have made contact with their family and legal team and that there were concerns he would be abused in detention.

The report also said evidence at its disposal proves Kanu entered Kenya this year on his British passport on a visa expiring in June, adding “
His UK passport remains in Kenya.”

Kanu does not have a Nigerian passport according to his family, who insists he renounced Nigerian citizenship in his broadcasts.

21146  Forum / Education / 21Yrs Old UNEC’s 1st Class Law School Graduand, Amarachi Nickabugu Says He Parent Motivate Her on: 10-07-2021 08:14 PM

A 21-year-old Law School graduand, Amarachi Nickabugu, Saturday narrated how her parents motivated her into making first class honours in the recent result released by the Council of Legal Education of the Nigerian Law School.

Nickabugu,  a product of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, UNEC, was one of the 20 students who bagged first class honours out of 5,770 who sat for the Bar Final Examinations conducted in March this year.

In an interview with Vanguard at the university town of Nsukka, she narrated how her parents motivated her to go extra mile in order to earn first class honours from the Nigerian Law School.

While describing the feat as a dream come true for herself, parents and siblings, she bemoaned the communication gap between the students and management of the Law School.

She equally said that a lot could be done to improve on the infrastructure at the Kano State Campus of the School, recalling that the place has become a haven for reptiles as the Management, sometimes, allows the bushes to overgrow prompting snakes to encroach on the students’ hostels. “I was frightened to the bone marrow the day I saw a snake at my doorstep in the hostel,” she told Vanguard.

While narrating her experiences at the Law School, she said “I feel mostly relieved graduating from Law School because the programme was very demanding. Also, our programme was interrupted because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so, a lot of adjustments were made. The challenge of the pandemic on the programme began when Federal Government declared lockdown and asked tertiary institutions in the country to shutdown due to the coronavirus.

“During the lockdown, the Law School Management organised online classes. We used online platforms to receive videos and audio recordings of lectures. It was difficult for me to keep up with because the online materials were voluminous and Internet data-sapping. Some of them could not enter my phone, so, I couldn’t store them for future references. I stayed online all the time, either downloading the materials or reading them. At a point, I was not able to cope with the demands of the online lectures.

“I must say that as much as the Law School had the good intention of facilitating learning considering the circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic, a lot more could have been done to make online classes a lot easier for the students. In a country that has earned the negative tag of the poverty capital of the world, there could have been provisions for the  financially-less-privileged students to cope with the demands of the online classes.

“I had to read textbooks to make up for online classes I could not keep up with. It required more efforts on the students. Some of the online materials were insufficient. I had to search for other materials on my own as supplement for the insufficiencies.

“We had to watch some of the materials live, and some required up to 500 megabits of data to download. I might be privileged to get most of the financial supports I needed from my parents, but I know that some students may not have such privileges. Some of the voluminous materials could have been compressed for easier download from the Internet. I know the management had the best of intentions for that, but a lot could have been done to make the experience easier for the students.

“I am really proud of myself graduating with first class honours because it took a lot of efforts, commitment and consistency to achieve this feat.”

Speaking about the factors that motivated her, Nickabugu who hails from Olido in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State said “My mother would always tell me to make first class honours for her even if I didn’t need it. She was a key player in my motivation story. I know that my father, Barr. Nick Abugu, had expectations too. He knew the calibre of children he has, at least, from the academic point of view. He is a Lawyer too. I knew it would give him a sense of pride if I graduate with first class from the Law School. Though, I am self-motivated person myself, my parents and siblings fired me up for this glory.”

Vanguard equally gathered from an online news site, The Nigerianlawyer.com that out of the 5,770 students who sat for the examinations, 432 made second class upper division, while 2,172 made second class lower division.

1,723 graduated with pass category, 35 others earned conditional pass, while 1,325 failed the examinations. It was equally learnt that 60 students were absent from the examinations.

According to a document endorsed by the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, the Call to the Bar ceremonies for the successful candidates has been slated for 27th, 28th and 29th of this month at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

21150  Forum / Politics / "Another Civil War May Spell Permanent Doom For Nigeria" – Yakubu Gowon Warns on: 10-07-2021 07:43 PM

Yakubu Gowon an elder statesman and a past military Head of State has cautioned youths in the country against agitating for another civil war in Nigeria.

Gowon says it may spell permanent doom for Nigerians.

The former military Head of State warned that a new civil war will also take Nigeria backward in unimaginable dimensions.

He made the comment on Saturday in Abuja during a public lecture on “Rejigging the Security Architecture of Nigeria.”

Gowon who was represented by former Governor of Bauchi State, Major General Chris Abutu Garuba described war as an unpleasant situation.

He noted that those who have fallen victims to it would not wish that Nigeria goes into another one outside of the one fought between 1967 and 1970.

The elder statesman expressed concerns over the growing tension among the youths and appealed to the federal government to take up the challenge.

A professor of African History, Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Ibadan, Professor Isaac Olawale Albert who spoke at the event said war would only escalate the problems confronting the nation.

“If you see war, you will run. It is only those who have never seen war that can call for it. It does not pay anyone.”

He cautioned those beating the drums of war, stating that Nigerians would gain nothing from it in the end.
21151  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / BREAKING: Lagos Confirm Death Of APC Chieftain Kayode Samuel Killed By Assailant on: 10-07-2021 09:38 AM

Executive Chairman of Oriade Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Ramotalai Hassan has narrated how an All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain, Kayode Samuel, popularly called, “Epo Kinkin,” was shot dead in the Agboju area, Lagos, during a campaign flag-off for the re-election of APC candidates for July 24 Local Government election.

Hassan, while commiserating with the bereaved family, urged the state Police Command to fish out the perpetrator(s) of the dastardly act and be brought to book.

Until his death, Samuel was also Vice-Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, of the area. The incident occurred at the secretariat of the party in Agboju area on Thursday, 8 July 2021.

“During the stampede caused by the gunshot, a man suspected to have pulled the trigger was said to have been seen walking away casually out of the premises.

“We have lodged a complaint to the Police,”
eyewitness had stated.

Meanwhile, Hassan, condemning the act in its entirety, stated it was uncalled for.

She described Samuel as a loving, peaceful, loyal, and hardworking executive member of APC in Oriade LCDA.

Hassan, while speaking with Vanguard over the unfortunate incident, narrated how it occurred, thus:
Quote
“The campaign flag-off had been held and concluded successfully and peacefully, everybody inside the hall, including a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Amuwo Odofin 2, Olawale Rauf Age-Sulaiman were leaving, when suddenly some miscreants surged towards the lawmaker, with the intent to obtain money from him.

“In the ensuing melee, while trying to shield Olawale from the miscreants, Samuel stepped in front of him, the next thing that happened thereafter was the sound of a gunshot from the crowd.

“Everyone ran helter-skelter for safety after the gunshot, but Samuel was subsequently seen lying on the ground in a pool of his blood as he was the one hit by the bullet.

“He was struggling for help before he was quickly rushed to Nigeria Navy Reference Hospital, Alakija, where he was confirmed dead.”

Hassan, however, stressed that the gruesome murder had nothing to do with the campaign flag-off exercise as all the nine candidates vying for elective positions during the July 24 local government election in the state, were unanimously adopted by APC leaders and members in Oriade LCDA, during the just in concluded local government party primaries.

The council chairman, who was a former member of the state House of Assembly commiserated with the family of the deceased and all members of APC in the council area.

She urged the State Police to carry out a thorough investigation over the unfortunate and bring to book the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

Earlier, the highlight of the campaign flag-off at the party secretariat was the former handing over of APC flag to Hassan, as chairmanship candidate of the party in the forthcoming local government election.

The flag was handed over to her jointly by the chairman of the party in Oriade LCDA, Mr. Sabitiu Hassan, and the apex leader in the council area, Prince Adio Sekoni.

Other candidates who received the party’s flags were: Vice Chairmanship candidate, Moshood Badmus, and seven councillorship candidates in the council area.

The party chairman, Sabitiu, and the apex leader, Prince Sekoni, after the handing over of the flags to candidates, urged party members and eligible voters in Oriade LCDA to come out en masse on July 24 to vote for APC candidates.
21152  Forum / Politics / "It Will Still Be The North’s Turn To Produce President In 2023, Not South" -Karimi Claims on: 10-07-2021 09:27 AM

A former member of the House of Representatives, Karimi Sunday, has claimed it will still be the turn of the North to produce Nigeria’s President in 2023.

He stated this on Friday.

From 2011 to 2019, Karimi represented Yagba Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

Quote
“Since 1999, the rotation started from the South and ended in the North. It should start from where it ended, as it is the normal practice for a rotational agreement.

“Also between 1999 and 2023, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo from the South-West ruled for eight years and handed over to Alhaji Shehu Musa Yar’adua, who ruled for two years and died.

“President Goodluck Jonathan ruled for six years and handed over to President Muhammadu Buhari, who will complete his eight years in 2023.”

Karimi added that “Since the South has had a combined 14 years while the North will complete 10 years in 2023, for the sake of equity, the next President should come from another geo-political zone in the North, preferably the North Central.”

Recall that on Monday, the 17 governors under the aegis of Southern Governors’ Forum, met in Lagos.

They insisted that Nigeria’s next president must come from the South.

A communiqué read by the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, afterward, said the forum is committed to politics of fairness and equity.
21153  Forum / Politics / PDP Representative, Kingsley Chinda Mocks Lai Mohammed Over The Insecurity In Nigeria on: 10-07-2021 09:21 AM

The Leader of the PDP Caucus in the House of Representatives, Hon. Kingsley Chinda has mocked Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed over the security situation in the country.

Chinda, who represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in Rivers State, said that only the Minister thinks the nation’s security situation is improving.

He said that Nigerians were more interested in seeing results rather than be told what the government was doing to combat insecurity in the country.

Chinda’s comment came hours after 35 persons were confirmed killed after attacks by bandits on five communities in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Speaking on the security situation in the country, Chinda said, “I don’t think anybody, except Lai Mohammed, will tell us there is an improvement in the security situation in the country.

Quote
“Whatever the government is doing, I believe what Nigerians want to see is the effect of all that, because a lot of money has been spent and people are dying every day.

“I keep saying that Nigerian lives matter and should matter. So, it is not enough to trumpet the same language that, “we are on top of the situation” and things are getting worse. I want to see changes.

“We want a Nigeria where we can travel by road from Port Harcourt to Lagos, Abuja, Sokoto freely, and you are not concerned about your safety.

“When things are restored, government does not need to tell Nigerians that things have returned to normal. We will see it. We will feel it.

“So, I don’t think there is much improvement in the security situation. It is getting worse. And we need to do something about it.”
21154  Forum / The Buzz Central / VIDEO: Daddy Freeze Blasts General Overseers Who Did Not Attend Late T.B Joshua's Funeral on: 10-07-2021 09:09 AM

OAP and Leader of the Free The Sheeple Movement, Daddy Freeze, has expressed his disappointment in the General Overseers of Nigerian Churches for not attending the funeral of the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations SCOAN, Late Prophet T.B. Joshua.

The deceased clergyman died on June 5 and was buried on Friday, July 9. The only notable clergyman who attended his funeral was the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Lagos state chapter, Rt. Rev. S.T.V Adegbite.

In a video shared online, Freeze expressed his displeasure at the older generations of pastors who did not identify with the deceased prophet even in death. He mentioned that no matter what may have transpired between them when T.B Joshua was alive, they should have had a forgiving heart and attended his funeral.

Quote
''Prophet T.B Joshua has been laid to rest. May his soul rest in peace. I worry with the turnout of Christians to this man's funeral. I worry. If we truly are Christians, every church should have sent a delegation.

I must say I am disappointed whether you like to admit it or not.  I am disappointed.

He wondered how someone can die and Christians cannot extend their condolence or commiserate with their families. He pointed out that when some persons died, the same TB Joshua in his lifetime did farewell for them and also commiserated with their families.

''I am disappointed, disappointed in you all. You have not shown a legacy of love. None of you..I tried to monitor. None of you could wear your clothes and fly your private jets and attend the funeral?

If you ask me and you expect me to be honest, I am entirely disappointed in all the big daddies that we have. You people are our daddies. If you behave like this, how are we the children going to behave? If we are fighting, it should be during when someone dies. You people have turned gods of Men. He offended you, so?

You don't know what you have done...especially our daddies. ''he continued to speak

Addressing those who may attack him for not also attending the funeral, Freeze said

''I am not old enough to attend T.B Joshua's funeral. T.B Joshua is my father's mate. Let us tell ourselves the truth. If the family had invited me, of course I would have attended but they do not know me. I am not on their level. They senior me. Maybe if I had attended his church when he was alive or gone to visit him once, it is different.'

Whether you like to admit it or not, I am disappointed. At least Free nation gave online condolence. Did we not even dedicate a whole service to him? Whether we agreed with him a hundred percent or we did not, Baba has moved on.''
he said

21159  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / How Sokoto Police Arrest Man, Isma’ila Isah Over A Blasphemous Comment Against Prophet Mohammed on: 9-07-2021 09:11 PM

The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested one Isma’ila Sani Isah for allegedly posting a blasphemous comment against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on his social media platform.

Sani was said to have made the alleged comment in protest of not getting a local government job.  In the post, Isah accused one man in their area of denying him offer despite his financial problem.

The Sokoto State Government in a statement on Friday, July 9, condemned in strongest terms the blasphemy against the Prophet, adding that the suspect has been apprehended and investigations are ongoing.

The state Commissioner for Information, Hon. Isah Bajini Galadanci, who stated this while briefing newsmen on behalf of Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal at Government House, Sokoto, said the suspect will be brought before a competent court of law upon completion of investigation.

He warned that henceforth the state government would not condone such acts against Prophet Muhammad (SAW) or any other prophet of God or His scriptures.

The commissioner added that already the government, in collaboration with the security agencies and other relevant authorities, are taking necessary steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken against the offender, stating that already the suspect has been apprehended and investigations are ongoing, consequent upon which he will be brought before a competent court of law to face justice accordingly.

According to him, Gov. Tambuwal has cautioned against the politicization of the issue, saying that it is time for all citizens of the state to unite on matters such as this

The governor commended the coalition of youths who inspite of partisan divides came together and approached relevant authorities, rather than taking the law into their hands.

Tambuwal, therefore urged people in the state to maintain peace and order as all necessary measures are on course to address the matter.

Meanwhile, some youths in Sokoto had on Thursday, stormed the palace of Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar and demanded the arrest of Sani.

The youths who were armed with placards, among which read “We are calling on the Sultanate Council to take the necessary measure against the perpetrator” and “Isma’il, must die” among others stormed the palace around 5pm.

They were, however, denied entry by armed policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer of Marina police station, Chief Superintendent M Y Maru.

Maru, while addressing them, pleaded for calm, saying the suspect was under detention at the Criminal Investigation Department of the state command.

"We have arrested the suspect. He is currently under detention at the CID office and i can lead your leaders to the headquarter to confirm,” he said

At the police headquarters, the deputy Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Abdullahi, while receiving leaders of the youths assured them that the suspect would be arraigned before a Shari’ah court on Monday.

Meanwhile a Facebook user, Nafiu Romo also took to the platform to call for Isah's arrest
