Billionaire Russian oligarch spends 3.5 million pounds hiring Sir Elton John and Mariah Carey for his 19-year-old granddaughter’s wedding at swish London hotel.
Legendary singer, Sir Elton John and Mariah Carey, headlined a star-studded bill of performances at an extravagant party just after Irene Kogan, the grand-daughter of billionaire businessman, Valery Kogan, tied the knot with her groom, Daniel Kevey on Saturday.
It was gathered that the Russian oligarch forked out a staggering £2.5million on just getting Mariah Carey to fly in and sing, ‘We Belong Together’ at his teenage granddaughter’s ridiculously lavish wedding held at London’s Landmark Hotel, where the Presidential Suite costs £1,450-a-night, at the weekend.
According to Dailymail, the bride is said to have wept when Sir Elton, who charges no less than £1million, dedicated the song, ‘Tiny Dancer’ to her during a 12-song set.
Sir Elton said: ‘This is for Irene. She’s not that tiny, but I know she’s a really good dancer because I can see her down there.’
Actor Antonio Banderas, who now lives in London and recently dined with Prince Charles, also made a speech during the star-studded wedding, wishing the couple well.

Nathi Mthethwa, the Minister of Arts and Culture on Sunday confirmed on Twitter that Jazz legend and Nelson Mandela’s favourite singer, Thandi Klaasen has died at the age of 86.
The award winning legend who began her career in the mid-1950s, died on Sunday, January 15, 2017, after losing her battle with pancreatic cancer. May her soul rest in peace, amen.
Men of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command, over the weekend, arrested one Segun Akuntola, who is alleged to be the kingpin of a syndicate that specializes in defrauding innocent citizens within the State. The suspect, popularly known as Okadigbo, was apprehended by the Decoy Team of the squad in his shrine at Ijora over his involvement in fraud perpetrated by the 4 - man gang under him.
The fraud, which was perpetrated in Ikorodu about a year ago was supervised by accomplice Christian Odokor, 43. The syndicate had duped a lady known as Joy (not real name) while in transit from Ikorodu towards Mile 12, where the victim had planned to buy some goods. Preliminary investigation conducted by the Decoy Team of RRS revealed that Okadigbo is the arrow head of several syndicates of fraudsters operating in different parts of Lagos State and some parts of Ogun State.
The members of his syndicate, it was learnt report to his shrine regularly where their nefarious activities were always planned.
Until his arrest over the weekend, four of his accomplices earlier arrested by the operatives of RRS had given him out as their ring – leader. The operatives were reported to have been on the look out for him but he has remained evasive through 2016.
Okadigbo while confessing to being a fraudster who operated by pretending to be herb seller in parts of the metropolis denied being the leader of the syndicate traced to him. According to him
“It is true they used my shrine and office. They bring their victims there but everybody operated on their own. They all assemble there but everybody managed their group. Although, the fake dollar they use is mine but I don’t know anything about this job for which they have been arrested”.
“I operated by selling herbs but I market quick money rituals to people as well as herbs for people looking for children. I do spiritual bath for clients and that is how I defraud people and make my money”, he disclosed.
Christain Odokor, the leader of the Ikorodu fraudsters, in his confessional statement said, "we robbed her (Joy) about a year ago.
We took all she had from him including the sum of N300,000:00 and recharge cards of all networks worth N120,000:00 Okadigbo is our master whom most of us report to at least thrice in a week.
All of us, about nine groups that I know report to him. We operated in different parts of the metropolis”, he added.
"He is so powerful and fiery that no police dare to arrest him. Now, I was shocked seeing him here with us in your custody", Odokor said.
Another member of the team, Toyin Idebi, 25, said that greed made her join the gang two years ago. "I was a stylist and doing well before I joined them. When I saw how they were spending money on ladies like me, then I moved closer to them to know their secret.
Initially, they were reluctant to tell me their job as they just told me they were into export and import business. I pressed on till one of them asked me if I can keep a secret. He opened up and I joined them".
She continued,
"My main job was to act as someone who was carrying foreign currencies who didn't know her destination. Though, those currencies were fake but I didn't how Okadigbo got them.
While recounting her ordeal, the victim said," It was on Wednesday afternoon, January 13th 2016 on my way to market. The lady amongst them flagged me down by calling Sabo passengers from Ikorodu garage . When I saw the lady sitting and calling for prospective passengers I never thought otherwise. Immediately I hopped in and sat down beside her. I saw three other men inside the car. Suddenly as we were progressing, the lady begged me to help her with my phone to make phone calls giving excuse that she had no call card on hers.
"As a lady, I handed over my phone to her and she made two separate calls with my phone. As we moved a bit far more, the driver detoured the journey to unknown destination. I queried the driver where he was taken me to, he refused to respond. Suddenly, they pulled over in the middle of the way, the driver pointed gun at me and the lady showed me knife to cooperate.
They ransacked my bag and removed the whole money with the recharge cards, and they sped off", she added.
Confirming the incident, the State's Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police, Dolapo Badmus, said that the Command will not rest on its oars until it rids the state of bad elements and reduce the criminal activities in the state to the bearest minimum.
She added that the kingpin and his gang members would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Isaiah Otong, the man from Akwa Ibom state, who took to Facebook to express sadness after the woman he spent N950,000 to marry, left him for another man barely two weeks after their wedding (read here), is still ranting on social media.
On his Facebook wall this weekend, a distraught Isaiah listed all the items his ex-wife's Family collected from him during their marriage rite. He accused the family of fraud and even put out the lady's father's telephone number so that people can call to inquire if his accusations are true or false.

Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church has died. The Pastor who made headlines in 2016 for his gaunt appearance has passed away, according to church parishioners.
Long previously said he was on a diet before revealing that he’s been recovering from a health challenge. Church officials say that challenge was an “aggressive form” of cancer. He was 63-years-old.
While veteran actor, Prince James Uche is battling with his health and other domestic issues especially as it was alleged he was kicked out of his home for his inability to pay his house rent, so many Nigerians wondered why Actors Guild of Nigeria had yet to assist one of their own financially.
In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, the president of the guild, Emeka Ike, claimed he had done all he could to assist the actor while also claiming he is putting structures in place so that members of the guild would not go begging when they need help.
But then, Ike is of the opinion that most Nigerians have yet to assist the actor because he is not a female.
“It is sad that someone like Prince James is begging for help but what is sadder is the fact that one Nigerian can actually pay all his medical bills. But because the sickness does not involve a fine girl, everybody is minding their business. I bet you that if it was a fine girl that was in his shoes, a lot of Nigerian men would have signified interest in helping but because the matter at hand involves an old man, everyone seems to be turning a deaf ear. I implore all Nigerians to please support this wonderful talent and help him back on his feet. On my part, I would continue to do what I can to help him and other members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.”
He said, “I have done what I can personally for Prince James and I also call on Nigerians to also come and help out en masse. But I really do not believe in actors coming out to beg for money to solve one issue or the other and that is why my administration is working on a biometric card with my friend Pretty Okafor of PMAN so that we can know all our members and cater for them especially when they are in dire need of help.”
But in a recent development, it was reported that the Abia State government just released the sum of N10m to the veteran actor.

Veteran Nigerian musician Daddy Showkey has just revealed on of his biggest regrets in life.
In a recent interview with ThePointNg, Daddy Showkey said not having education is one major thing he regrets.
In his words, 'It is education. When I see musicians who are graduates, I am proud of them. I like to have PhD too.
Though my mother was a teacher, she still gave me the freedom to do what I wanted to do. But given another chance, I would like to take education seriously. I would have finished my secondary and university education before going into music'.
When asked, 'what stops you from going back to school now? He responded saying,
I have so many people depending on me at the moment. Helen Paul and I even talked about it recently and she encouraged me to go back to school. But the truth is that I feel my children will continue from where I stopped'.
Nigerian journalists have come under fire recently after being labelled lazy. A Nigerian journalist and former stringer/reporter at Reuters, Sumner Shagari Sambo, has shared pictures to show that not all journalist are lazy and have never been to war zones. He shared the pictures on his Facebook page and wrote;

Twelve people were killed today after a commuter bus plunged into the Odo-Oba River from Oyo/Ogbomoso Road.
Details about the accident are sketchy, but a source said the passenger bus, which was travelling to Ilorin plunged into the river while trying to avoid an articulated vehicle that strayed into the path of the bus.
He said,
“From the report I had, the bus was travelling to Ilorin and as it approached the slope leading to the small bridge over the river, an articulated truck took over the path of the road and in an effort to avoid collision with it, the bus driver veered off the road and plunged into the river.
“It was difficult pulling the passengers out of the river despite the volunteer rescuers that arrived at the scene early. Twelve people died immediately.” He also blamed the accident on the state of the road and failure of the Federal Government to complete the Ibadan/Oyo/Ogbomoso/Ilorin dual carriage that would have provided a safer route for travellers.
Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the accident, and said 12 people died and their bodies had been deposited at the Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
“The driver of the Mazda bus lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the Odo-Oba River. “Nine adults and three kids died on the spot and their bodies have been deposited at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso. There were three survivors including the driver.
“The police with assistance from local drivers helped pull the bodies and passengers out of the river. The vehicle is still in the river.”
