5  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / The recent Nobel awards on: 14-10-2009 08:44 AM
The recent awards by the Nobel awards committee awarded President Barack Obama of the United States the Nobel Prize for peace for his efforts towards global peace by encouraging dialogue. Now the issue is that the Nobel Peace Prize had always been awarded to someone who had actually achieved something, eg our dear own Nelson Mandela.
The logic here is that, the nominations for this award opened in September 2008 and closed in February 2009(two weeks after Obama was sworn in, in January 2009).
So, does it mean Obama got nominated for the awards even before he was sworn in as president(which is actually when he started his diplomatic policies) or in just the two weeks he was president before the closure of nominations for the awards, he had done enough to deserve the awards?
Well, you either think he deserves the award, he doesn't, he deserves it but not till he has achieved his goals, he never deserves it or maybe he deserves it.

My name is Nigeria ; I need Re-Building and not Re-Branding. I am naija . I am divided into 36 unequal states, plus my capital territory, christened Abuja . I have millions of acres of arable land and billions of cubic liters of water, but I cannot feed myself. So I spend $1 billion to import rice and another $2 billion to import milk. I produce rice, but don't eat it. I have 60 million cattle but no milk. I have the capacity to feed the whole of Africa but I import most food instead. I am hungry, please help and re-brand me. I drive the latest car in the world but have no roads; neither can I boast of manufacturing a bicycle's tire. I lose family and friend’s everyday on my roads for which funds have been allocated to build and rehabilitate but the fund has been looted.

Quote from: dguy on 12-09-2009 01:32 PM
Dr. Mercy Gabriel, the now popular female taxi driver in Abuja, the nation's capital, has proved herself an enigma. A holder of two doctorate degrees, and though earning a good remuneration in the employ of the United Nations Commission for Refugees (UNCR), she jettisoned these advantages and took to cab driving.

She started the business on May 16 this year, and has come to be known and admired by cab users in the capital city. As she put it, "I have my eyes on a business that will eventually grow tall and big."

PHD holder driving taxi, whats your take on this? - Destiny or condition?

but U just said it all dguy, dat she was in d employ of d UNHCR nd earnig good money, so dis is not about 'condition' for her, its about wat she wants to do
Kudos 2 her 4 following her dreams

Once in a blue moon in the night when we are sleeping, after bought recharge meter no improvement  in my area Mpape, Abuja

The prepaid meter(popularly called 'recharge') wasnt meant to provide more power, its not like it can.
It's supposed to be an improvement, but what it is meant to improve is actually in a limbo

I hear there's an agenda to this bank thing cos Vanguard healines today says EFCC is cajoling the bank Directors in its custody to surrender their shares in their various banks, which ofcos is a step towards complete takeover of the banks by other people, eg the directors of Intercontinental collectively own 51% of its shares, and for anybody to take over the bank, their shares ofcos would have to be higher
