161  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / More Money For Nigerians As CBN Orders Banks To Pay Higher Interest On Savings on: 18-08-2022 01:47 PM

With this new development, many Nigerians may now have to ditch various fintech firms that reward savings with better interest than the banks.

The interest rate on naira savings has been increased by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

CBN raised the minimum interest rate on Naira savings deposits from 0.15 percent to 4.2 per cent, meaning more money for Nigerians who save with banks.

The new directive took effect from August 1, 2022.

The bank in a circular dated August 15, 2022, and signed by Haruna Mustafa, director of the banking supervision department, said the rate has been revised from 10 per cent to 30 per cent of the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR).

In a bid to address inflation, the bank in July raised the benchmark interest rate to 14 per cent from 13 per cent, making it the second consecutive time the central bank would raise the benchmark rate in 2022.

“It will be recalled that as part of the efforts to ameliorate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Bank of Nigeria reduced the minimum interest rates payable on local currency savings deposits from 30% to 10% of the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR). This was aimed at stimulating growth in the larger economy following the economic-slowdown occasioned by the pandemic,” the CBN said.

“Following the return to full normalcy and considering the prevailing macroeconomic conditions, it has become necessary to effect an upward adjustment of the interest rate payable on local currency savings deposits.

“Accordingly, effective August 1, 2022, the negotiable minimum interest rate on local currency savings deposits shall be 30% of MPR. This supersedes our letter dated BSD/DIR/GEN/LAB/13/052 on the subject. September 1, 2020.”

With this new development, many Nigerians may now have to ditch various fintech firms that reward savings with better interest than the banks.

According to the latest deposit and lending rates in the banking industry published on the CBN website, eight out of 27 banks paid 1.40 per cent savings interest rates.

The banks are Access Bank, Citibank, Ecobank, Globus, Polaris, Stanbic IBTC, Sterling Bank, and Zenith Bank.

Others offered between 0.88 per cent to 4.20 percent.
162  Forum / Politics / Breaking:Court Strikes Out Suit Seeking To Void Adeleke’s Nomination For Osun Guber Election on: 18-08-2022 01:41 PM

The judge on Thursday struck down the suit on the ground that the plaintiff lacked locus standi to institute the case.

A suit seeking nullification of submission of the name of Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last July 26 election, has been struck out by Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The judge on Thursday struck down the suit on the ground that the plaintiff lacked locus standi to institute the case.

The plaintiff in the suit, Awoyemi Oluwatayo Lukman, had dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the PDP and Adeleke before the court seeking order to void and set aside the submission of Adeleke’s name to INEC on grounds of alleged unlawful action.

The grouse of the plaintiff was that Adeleke’s name was hurriedly submitted by PDP on March 11 as against between March 14 to 18 as contained in the INEC guidelines.

Adeleke’s name having not been submitted within the period fixed by INEC, the plaintiff asked the court to declare the submission, illegal, unlawful, null, and void and be set aside.

He claimed that INEC must be bound by its official guidelines and that anything done outside the guidelines is against the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

However, in his judgment, Justice Obiora Egwuatu struck out the suit on the ground that the said Awoyemi Oluwatayo Lukman lacked locus standi to have instituted the case.

The Judge held also that the suit was statute barred having been fixed outside the 14 days stipulated by Section 285 of the 1999 Constitution that all pre-election suits must be filed within 14 days whereas, the instant suit was filed after 28 days.

163  Forum / Education / Strike: Why Our Meeting With FG Ended In Deadlock – ASUU on: 18-08-2022 01:38 PM

The union expressed anger in press statement, Thursday, signed by its president, Emmanuel Osodeke.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has revealed why it didn't call off strike action it embarked six months ago after meeting with the federal government last Tuesday.

According to ASUU, the meeting ended in deadlock because the committee presented “award of a Recommended Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), prepared by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission” to it.

ASUU said the ‘award salary’ was “against the principle of collective bargaining, based on the Wages Boards and Industrial Council’s Decree No 1 of 1973, the Trade Dispute Act (1976), ILO Conventions 49 (1948), 91(1950), 154 (1988) and recommendation 153 (1981), Udoji Commission Report of 1974, and Cookey Commission Report of 1981.”

The report,it noted, “also provided a platform for resolving such important issues as special Salaries and Conditions of Service of University Staff, University Funding, roles of Pro Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, and National Universities Commission (NUC). A key outcome was a special salary scale for university staff known as University Salary Structure (USS).”

Accusing the government of insincerity in its approach to resolving the lingering crisis in the university academic system, the union demanded that “The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, should return to the New Draft Agreement of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Renegotiation Committee whose work spanned a total of five and half years as a demonstration of good faith.”

The union in press statement, Thursday, signed by its president, Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed anger that the “award” presented by the Nimi Briggs-led Team came across in a manner of take-it-or-leave-it on a sheet of paper ”noting that: ”No serious country in the world treats their scholars this way.”

In the statement, tagged: ”Why ASUU Rejects Governments Award of Salary”, the union claimed that,”Government imposed the ongoing strike action on ASUU and it has encouraged it to linger because of its provocative indifference.”

“The Munzali Jibril-led renegotiation committee submitted the first Draft Agreement in May 2021 but government’s official response did not come until about one year later! Again, the “Award” presented by the Nimi Briggs-led Team came across in a manner of take-it-or-leave-it on a sheet of paper. No serious country in the world treats their scholars this way,” it said.

Açcording to ASUU, ”Over the years, particularly since 1992, the Union has always argued for and negotiated a separate salary structure for academics for obvious reasons.”

“ASUU does not accept any awarded salary as was the case in the administration of General Abdulsalam Abubakar. The separate salary structures in all FGN/ASUU Agreements were usually the outcome of Collective Bargaining processes.

“The major reason given by the Federal Government for the miserly offer, paucity of revenue, is not tenable. This is because of several reasons chief of which is poor management of the economy. This has given rise to leakages in the revenue of governments at all levels.

“There is wasteful spending, misappropriation of fund and outright stealing of our collective patrimony.

“ASUU believes that if the leakages in the management of the country’s resources are stopped, there will be more than enough to meet the nation’s revenue and expenditure targets without borrowing and plunging the country into a debt crisis as is the case now,”it said.

While noting also that, “At the commencement of the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement on 16th March 2017, both the Federal Government and ASUU Teams agreed to be guided by” some terms of reference, ASUU, however, expressed regret that the former reneged on its side to abide by the agreement.

It warned that,”Government’s surreptitious move to set aside the principle of collective bargaining, which is globally in practice, has the potential of damaging lecturers’ psyche and destroying commitment to the university system”, adding:”This is, no doubt, injurious to Nigeria’s aspiration to become an active player in the global knowledge industry.”

The statement read in full:v”At the resumed meeting of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) 2009 Agreement Re-negotiation Committee on Tuesday, 16th August, 2022, the Government Team presented an “Award” of a Recommended Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) prepared by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) to ASUU. ASUU firmly rejected and still rejects the “Award”.

“The 1981 FGN-ASUU Agreement, under Alhaji Shehu Shagari’s administration, established the principle of collective bargaining, based on the Wages Boards and Industrial Council’s Decree No 1 of 1973, the Trade Dispute Act (1976), ILO Conventions 49 (1948), 91(1950), 154 (1988) and recommendation 153 (1981), Udoji Commission Report of 1974, and Cookey Commission Report of 1981.

” It also provided a platform for resolving such important issues as special Salaries and Conditions of Service of University Staff, University Funding, roles of Pro Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, and National Universities Commission (NUC). A key outcome was a special salary scale for university staff known as University Salary Structure (USS).

“At the commencement of the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement on 16th March 2017, both the Federal Government and ASUU Teams agreed to be guided by the following principles as their terms of reference:

(1) Reversal of the decay in the Nigerian University System, in order to reposition it for its responsibilities in national development;

to

(ii) Reversal of the brain drain, not only by enhancing the remuneration of academic staff, but also by disengaging them from the encumbrances of a unified civil service wage structure; (iii) Restoration of Nigerian Universities, through immediate, massive and sustained financial intervention; and

(iv) Ensuring genuine university autonomy and academic freedom.

” Government’s surreptitious move to set aside the principle of collective bargaining, which is globally in practice, has the potential of damaging lecturers’ psyche and destroying commitment to the university system. This is, no doubt, injurious to Nigeria’s aspiration to become an active player in the global knowledge industry.

“Rejecting a salary package arrived at through collective bargaining is a repudiation of government’s pronouncements on reversing “brain drain”. It is common knowledge that, more now than in the 1980s and 1990s, Nigerian scholars, especially in scarce areas like science and medicine, are migrating in droves to Europe, America and many parts of Africa such as South Africa, Rwanda, and Ghana with supportive environment to ply their trades as well as competitive reward systems for intellectual efforts. Does the Nigerian government care about what becomes of public universities in another five or ten years if this trend continues?

“FGN’s repudiation of collective bargaining is in bad faith. It is a retrogressive step for a democratic government to abrogate the collective bargaining principle after more than forty years of its introduction into the Nigerian University System. The ILO’s Policy Guide on Collective Bargaining stipulates that “The principle of negotiation in good faith takes the form in practice of various obligations on the parties involved, namely:

(i) recognizing representative organizations; (ii) endeavouring to reach agreement;

(iii) engaging in real and constructive negotiations;

(iv) avoiding unjustified delays in negotiation; and (v) mutually respecting the commitments made and the results achieved through bargaining” (ILO 2015, p. 14). Hence it could be safely concluded that FGN’s renegotiation of the 2009 Agreement with ASUU between March 2017 and June 2022 has been done in bad faith.

“Government imposed the ongoing strike action on ASUU and it has encouraged it to linger because of its provocative indifference. The Munzali Jibril-led renegotiation committee submitted the first Draft Agreement in May 2021 but government’s official response did not come until about one year later! Again, the “Award” presented by the Nimi Briggs-led Team came across in a manner of take-it-or-leave-it on a sheet of paper. No serious country in the world treats their scholars this way.

” Over the years, particularly since 1992, the Union has always argued for and negotiated a separate salary structure for academics for obvious reasons. ASUU does not accept any awarded salary as was the case in the administration of General Abdulsalam Abubakar.

“ASUU believes that if the leakages in the management of the country’s resources are stopped, there will be more than enough to meet the nation’s revenue and expenditure targets without
borrowing and plunging the country into a debt crisis as is the case now.

“The New Draft Agreement has other major recommendations for the funding of major components of the renegotiated 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement. One of such recommendations is the tax on cellphone and communication lines. Ironically, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning recently announced its readiness to implement ASUU’s recommendation, as a revenue source, but not for education, without acknowledging the Union!

” Our prayer: Where there is will, there will be way. The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, should return to the New Draft Agreement of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Renegotiation Committee whose work spanned a total of five and half years as a demonstration of good faith.”

Akpata speaking at a news conference ahead of its 2022 Annual Conference in Lagos State said the NBA is apolitical and would not endorse anyone.

Daily Post reports that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has explained it will not endorse any candidate as the 2023 elections draw near.

The NBA allayed concerns by some of its members that it plans to endorse one or two presidential candidates in the 2023 general elections.

Akpata speaking at a news conference ahead of its 2022 Annual Conference in Lagos State said the NBA is apolitical and would not endorse anyone.

Akpata said, “We’re bending over backward to show that that is not the intention and just to add my voice in saying that the NBA can’t and will not endorse one, two, or three parties.”

Akpata explained that the conference session hosting four of the 2023 presidential candidates is just one of the regular sessions at the event and that it’s not a manifesto night.

“It’s not a manifesto night or afternoon, it’s a regular session at the conference where we are interrogating the issue of democracy in transition and the leadership deficit that we have identified in this country.”

He noted that the invite is to give Nigerians the opportunity to know the next President.

“We, however, thought that we should talk to those who are trying to ask us as Nigerians, to allow them to lead. So these are the persons’ that our members selected to be invited because we can’t invite all of them,” Akpata said.
165  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / BREAKING: Lagos Extends Okada Ban To More LGAs on: 18-08-2022 01:08 PM

As gathered, the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed full enforcement from September 1, 2022.

The Okada ban in Lagos has been extended to four more Local Govt Areas and five Local Council Development Areas by the Lagos State Government.

As gathered, the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed full enforcement from September 1, 2022.

The additional councils where the total Okada ban is pronounced include Kosofe Local Government, Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Shomolu Local Government, and Mushin Local Government.

Others are Ikosi-Isherri LCDA, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Isolo LCDA, Bariga LCDA, and Odi-Olowo LCDA.

Sanwo-Olu had in May banned motorcycles on highways and six local governments and nine Local Council Development Areas.

The governor on May 24 also said the state government will go ahead with its proposed ban on motorcycles, adding that security services and Lagos State Government are on the same page with respect to the banning of motorcycles in the selected areas of the state.

He also assured that the security architecture of the state would not be compromised in any way so that Lagos residents will continue to live their lives and do their business without any fear or favour.

He said, “The security meeting gives us an opportunity for us to review the recent pronouncement on the future banning of Okada (motorcycles) in some selected local governments and LCDAs.

“We are able to put strategies in place. All of us were able to identify a lot of other things we need to do to embark on advocacy and ensure that we communicate effectively and efficiently to citizens. And that is why you see us giving out handbills in all of the major languages that we have in the country.

“There is a radio jingle being sent out to also communicate to people. I am also aware that there is a plan for advocacy on television stations as well.

“It is a people-driven initiative that we all agreed to live and to comport ourselves in a similar manner. And we know what has been the effect of this. So, I am happy that all of us, the security operatives and government are on the same page with this and we will also be going ahead with our plans.”

166  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / No Salaries For Striking University Staff – Minister Speaks on: 18-08-2022 01:05 PM

He ruled out any salary payment for striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, even when they eventually call off their strike.

Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education, has said lecturers who are on strike will not be paid.

He ruled out any salary payment for striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, even when they eventually call off their strike.

The same action may be meted out on other university unions such as the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non Academic Staff Union of University and Allied Institutions (NASU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), among others.

Adamu said government was bent on implementing and sustaining the “no work, no pay policy” to serve as a deterrent to the striking unions, who most times don’t blink an eye before embarking on industrial actions.

Adamu made the clarifications when he featured at the weekly media briefing coordinated by the Presidential Media Team on Thursday, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he noted that students are at liberty to institute legal actions against the striking unions if they feel shortchanged academically.

Recall that the truce meeting called between the Education Minister and ASUU few days ago ended in deadlock owing to differences in some of the demands raised.

While ASUU had insisted that one of the conditions for suspending the over six months strike is for government to pay their emoluments for the six months period they have been out of classes, the Nimi Briggs-led committee on behalf of the federal government refused to concede to such demand.

Adamu said the Briggs committee is expected to meet with ASUU again on Friday, to state their current position.

As Adamu was explaining the government’s side to State House Correspondents, ASUU released a statement detailing what actually transpired during the recent truce meeting.

Emmanuel Osodeke, President of ASUU, said at the resumed meeting of the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) 2009 Agreement Re-negotiation Committee on Tuesday, 16th August, 2022, the Government Team presented an “Award” of a Recommended Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) prepared by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) to ASUU. But ASUU firmly rejected and still rejects the “Award”.

Osodeke said the 1981 FGN-ASUU Agreement, under Alhaji Shehu Shagari’s administration, established the principle of collective bargaining, based on the Wages Boards and Industrial Council’s Decree No 1 of 1973, the Trade Dispute Act (1976), ILO Conventions 49 (1948), 91(1950), 154 (1988) and recommendation 153 (1981), Udoji Commission Report of 1974, and Cookey Commission Report of 1981.

He said it also provided a platform for resolving such important issues as special Salaries and Conditions of Service of University Staff, University Funding, roles of Pro Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, and National Universities Commission (NUC). A key outcome was a special salary scale for university staff known as University Salary Structure (USS).

He said as at the commencement of the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement on 16th March 2017, both the Federal Government and ASUU teams agreed to be guided by the following principles as their terms of reference: reversal of the decay in the Nigerian University System, in order reposition it for its responsibilities in national development; to reversal of the brain drain, not only by enhancing the remuneration of academic staff, but also by disengaging them from the encumbrances of a unified civil service wage structure; restoration of Nigerian Universities, through immediate, massive and sustained financial intervention; and ensuring genuine university autonomy and academic freedom.
167  Forum / Education / ASUU Must Compensate Students For Wasted Time - Minister on: 18-08-2022 01:01 PM

The minister said if the students are determined to get compensated, they should take ASUU to court.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu has said the Academic Staff Union of Universities will have to compensate students for wasting their time for the past six months.

Recall that ASUU has been on strike for 6 months.

He also said the government will not concede to the union’s demand to pay lecturers their emoluments for the six months of no academic activities.

Adamu suggested that the affected students should “take ASUU to court” to claim damages incurred over the strike period.

The Education minister said this at the 47th Session of the State House Ministerial Briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

According to him, the federal government bears no liability to compensate millions of students grounded for six months over lost time.

He also said if the students are determined to get compensated, they should take ASUU to court.

Yakubu said electronic transmission of elections results from the polling units would be a permanent feature in the nation’s electoral processes.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has disclosed that the results of the 2023 general elections would be transmitted electronically.

Yakubu who hosted a delegation of Media Trust Group on Wednesday August 17, said electronic transmission of elections results from the polling units (PUs) would be a permanent feature in the nation’s electoral processes.

He said;

“Yes, it is going to be permanent in all elections conducted by the commission going forward. But I wish to draw your attention to the fact that we did not start the electronic transmission, at least, from the polling units to the IReV Portal, in Anambra or FCT elections.

“It was actually on August 2020 that we deployed that for the Nasarawa Central State Constituency by-election, the first election conducted under COVID-19. So, if you look at the IReV Portal, you could see all the results from the 2020 to the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections and all the other by-elections we conducted.”
170  Forum / Sports / Ministry Of Sport Dissolves Basketball Interim Committee Two Months After It Was Set Up on: 18-08-2022 12:54 PM

It was announced that following the Federal Government’s decision to rescind the withdrawal of Nigeria Basketball from the International scene and relisting the NBBF, the IMC is no longer necessary and is dissolved with immediate effect.

The Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development (FMYSD), has announced the dissolution of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), with immediate effect, two months after it was set up to address the crisis in the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).

In May 2022, the FG withdrew Nigeria from all international basketball competitions for two years, following the lingering leadership rift in the Nigeria Basketball Federation, saying it was part of government’s efforts to revamp the sport from the grassroots, as well as put an end to the crises that had rocked the NBBF.

Part of the process to resolve the crisis was a 10-man committee set up to oversee basketball leagues in the country.

The Ministry in a statement signed by its Director of Press & Public Relations, Mohammed Mohammed, announced that following the Federal Government’s decision to rescind the withdrawal of Nigeria Basketball from the International scene and relisting the NBBF, the IMC is no longer necessary and is dissolved with immediate effect.

The statement reads; “You may recall that the federal government in addressing the lingering crisis in the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) had cause to set up an Interim Management Committee (IMC) on 4th June, 2022 following Nigeria’s withdrawal from International competitions for two years.

“Consequently, with the federal government’s rescission from its earlier withdrawal of Nigeria Basketball from the International scene and relisting the NBBF, beginning from Nigeria’s participation in FIBA basketball world cup 2023 Africa qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, the continuation of the IMC is no longer necessary.

“The federal ministry of youth and sports development hereby announces the dissolution of the Interim Management Committee for Nigeria Basketball with immediate effect.

“The ministry in the same connection, wishes to thank the chairman and members of the now defunct committee for their invaluable services to the Basketball family and the federal republic of Nigeria.”

171  Forum / Politics / Everything About You Bundle Of Lies – Bode George Slams Tinubu on: 18-08-2022 12:35 PM

He also said Tinubu did nothing to alleviate the pains of residents of Lagos State despite serving as a governor for two terms.

A Peoples Democratic Party, Chieftain,  Bode George, has taken a swipe at the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, stating that everything about him is a bundle of lies.

He said Tinubu did nothing to alleviate the pains of residents of Lagos State despite serving as a governor for two terms.

Speaking with Channels Television last night, George said: “I absolutely have no qualms, no quarrel with Tinubu, but all I know is that everything he has said he was or his name is this or his school is that it’s a bundle of lies.

“I’m a bonafide Lagosian, we knew what Lagos was like, and Lagos remains the commercial nerve centre, not only in Nigeria but in the whole of West Africa. What has this fellow done to us?”

The PDP chieftain charged Tinubu to open up on the ownership of Alpa Beta company.

He said the APC presidential candidate should tell Nigerians how much the company has allegedly stolen from the Lagos State Government.

“I have asked a very simple question and none of them has been able to answer it: who owns the Alpha Beta company? How much has the Alpha Beta company stolen from the coffers of our treasury in Lagos state?

“What has he done to alleviate the pains of the people of the state?” he asked.

173  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Famous Adamawa Wrestler Handed Death Penalty For Killing Wife on: 17-08-2022 05:53 PM

The Adamawa State High Court, which passed the sentence, ordered that the man be killed by hanging.

A popular local wrestler in Adamawa State identified as Thank-You Grim, has been handed a death penalty for killing his wife.

The Adamawa State High Court, which passed the sentence, ordered that the man be killed by hanging.

Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Nathan Musa, who presided over the case, passed the judgement after finding the wrestler guilty of killing his wife, Kwalla Grim.

The man, who hails from Sili community in Guyuk LGA, caused the death of his wife on the 24th March, 2018.

On completion of trial, Grim was convicted on a count charge of culpable homicide punishable with death.

Justice Nathan said in his text of judgement on Tuesday that the prosecution was able to prove with cogent evidence that the convict actually killed the deceased.

“As stated in my judgement, the convict is convicted for culpable homicide punishable with death. My hands are therefore tied. I cannot do otherwise.

“Therefore, the convict is accordingly sentenced to death by hanging as provided by section 192(b) of Penal Code Law,” the judge said.

The prosecution had earlier explained that the wrestler pushed his wife to the ground and used pestle in smashing her face.

It was learnt that the convict and the deceased who had been having some marital challenges before the incident, parted ways in January 2018.

After the couple ended their union, the deceased fell in love with another man and decided to get married, as a result of which she mounted pressure on the convict to issue her a divorce letter.

It was gathered that the convict, who earlier remained adamant to her entreaties; eventually called her to meet him at home for the divorce letter.

The convict pleaded with her to return to her matrimonial home on her arrival on that fateful day, but she refused, following which he picked a pestle and hit her in the face and other parts of the body severally.

She went into a coma and subsequently died, to which he later responded by reporting himself to the police and confessing the act.

Macaroni said this while some ‘Obidient’ followers confronted him to stop hiding and publicly declare his choice for president in 2023.

Mr. Macaroni, the popular Nigerian Comedian, has reached out to Nigerian youths about the fast-approaching 2023 elections,

He said he’s not endorsing any presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Macaroni said this while some ‘Obidient’ followers confronted him to stop hiding and publicly declare his choice for president in 2023.

His tweet read: “You people are sha stupid with this your ‘Hiding’ narrative. Na for hiding dem dehumanize me? Constant attacks from then till now!! If not endorsing a political candidate means I am hiding, then yes I am hiding!”

Macaroni noted that his movement is just for Nigerians to vote wisely in 2023, stressing that it’s the only way for the country to grow.

“VOTE WISELY!! That is the only movement I am championing! For every-time I encourage The Great Nigerian Youths to vote wisely, some certain people are always angry. Ok, let me try something else. Don’t Vote Foolishly!

“Nigerians want growth and development!! That can only happen when good people are in power.

“Killings and kidnappings, poor health care system, poor educational system, unstable power supply, adequate job opportunities, destabilisation of the economy, etc.

“We must stop recycling the same set of people!! Let’s try something new!”
177  Forum / Politics / Peter Obi, Wike Meetings: You Shouldn’t Sleep Well – Ohuabunwa Tells Atiku on: 17-08-2022 11:50 AM

Ever since his defeat at the PDP presidential primaries by Atiku Abubakar, the Rivers State Governor has been in romance with some candidates of different political parties.

Dr. Sam Ohuabunwa, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has cautioned Atiku Abubakar.

He said that he would not be sleeping well if he were in the shoes of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the main opposition party.

Ohuabunwa said that different meetings being held in Port Harcourt between Governor Nyesom Wike and other opposition candidates and camps, would have given him some sleepless nights.

Ever since his defeat at the PDP presidential primaries by Atiku Abubakar, the Rivers State Governor has been in romance with some candidates of different political parties.

The latest of such meetings was between the Governor and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

And appearing on Channels Television on Tuesday night, Ohuabunwa accused the PDP leadership of taking competitors such as Peter Obi for granted, warning that such an act was dangerous.

He said that if he was on Atiku’s side, he would take all those ovatures and meetings in Port Harcourt seriously, insisting that in Nigeria there’s no political meeting that is for nothing.

“One of the greatest failures of people is to underrate competitors. As the CEO for a multi-national company for many years, I do not underrate competition no matter how small they are.

“And every move the competitor makes in the marketplace causes an alarm for me and I deploy forces to counter those quickly because you don’t have a second chance.

“The problem of the party may not be as bad as it is looking but the media say perception is everything and we need to pour water on this and put it off.

“Certainly, all those political meetings everybody is coming to, if I’m the Chairman of the political party or the presidential candidate I don’t think I’ll sleep well or maybe because I don’t have the kind of heart or spirit that they have. I won’t sleep well.

“The next morning I’ll ensure that I fly down to Port Harcourt or wherever I need to fly and pour water on it and close this chapter so that we can move forward.

“That’s my candid advice and I’ve offered this advice through proxies to the party leadership that we need to harness our resources. This party is bleeding right now…the party has had enough time to sort out this problem.

“The problem is that this is not the only one. Just that this is the most visible one. And if we’re taking so much time to finish this, how are we going to deal with the others?… I think that the party leadership has a call, they should be humble, dynamic and strategic with the party.”
