3343  Forum / Politics / Sunday Ighoho’s Supporters Raise N16m In Three Days on: 7-02-2021 02:55 PM

A Gofundme account created to raise money to buy buses to aid operations of Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, called Sunday Igboho has amassed over N16million.

The money was raised by 969 donors barely 72 hours after the account was created.

One Kehinde Akinboyewa who donated £250, said, “No cause can be more just than this battle for the soul of the Yoruba Nation. Strong message to the Fulani terrorists and their enablers in high places, that though we’re thousands of miles away from home, we’ll stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in Yoruba land. The push back has begun in earnest; wanting to live in peace in your own home can’t be asking for too much!”
Fatai Adegbenga Kazeem who supported the cause with £20, said, “It is a just cause for all the Yoruba (people) home and abroad. Enough is enough. Our land must be safe for all again.”

Sunday Igboho became popular after expelling killer Fulani herdsmen from Ibarapa, Oyo State.

Igboho has since taken his campaign against killer herdsmen to neighboring Ogun State where he was welcomed by a crowd of supporters.

To support his cause, a GoFundme account was created by Maureen Badejo.

Badejo said the Yoruba activist needs buses to move around to secure “our ancestral land.”

“Let us rise up and support Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho. They need buses to move around to secure our ancestral land. Our security is threatened as we speak. Seems people in a position of authority are helpless”, he said.

“Politicians and some traditional rulers were our common enemy. God will continue to protect and guide your ways Omo Adeyemo, Istandwithsundayigboho Oooooosa,” he wrote further.

By the submission on the site, the organizers aim to raise £100,000 (N52 million).

3345  Forum / The Buzz Central / “I Don’t Have A Girlfriend Because I’m Scared Of Women” – Actor, Zubby Michael Reveals on: 7-02-2021 11:24 AM

Nigerian actor prominent for his rugged movie roles, Zubby Michael, has revealed why he does not have a girlfriend
He made this revelation in an exclusive interview with Vanguard Newspaper over the weekend.

Zubby who made his acting debut in the 2007 movie, “Missing Rib”, said he was already a successful businessman who was living large in the commercial city of Onitsha before he later dumped his lucrative business for acting.

“I came to see a friend, Solomon Amaco when they were shooting a musical video. I wasn’t there to be part of the production, but to have a drink with them. Later, I was given the role of a gate man in the movie, “Missing Rib’ starring Ramsey Nouah and Tonto Dikeh as the lead characters. But when I featured in my second movie, ‘The Generals” starring the likes of Jim Iyke, Mike Ezuruonye, Uche Jombo among others, my story changed.

“I was a successful businessman. I was driving Mercedes 190 back then in 2007. And I used to buy drinks and share money among my Nollywood friends. They were using my car to pick the likes of Jim Iyke from the Airport. That was how the big filmmakers in Asaba came to know me.”, Zubby said.

Speaking on how he handles his female fans, Zubby Michael said; “I avoid them, this is because I am scared of them. In this type of career that I ventured into, you must be careful and avoid women. It’s not that I don’t like them. The journey needs total focus and hard work. Honestly, I don’t have a girl friend.”
3346  Forum / Politics / Lagos Judicial Panel Approves Reopening Of Lekki Toll Gate on: 7-02-2021 11:11 AM

The Lagos State Judicial Panel on Restitution for victims of police brutality has approved the reopening of the Lekki Toll Gate.

The panel on Saturday returned the control of the Lekki toll gate plaza to its owners, the Lekki Concession Company (LCC).

Five of the nine-member panel voted to return the control of the tollgate to the Lekki Concession Company (LCC).

Chairman of the panel, Justice Doris Okuwobi, ruled that insurers can commence assessment of the damage at the facility, renovate and resume its business.

“The panel in its ruling had decided that it will not take that ground and will only maintain control until its forensic experts conclude his report. The report is ready as the panel has been satisfied therefore and the assurances from the forensic team that it will no longer require any visit to the plaza. The panel has decided that it will not await the termination of the petitioners before it hands over control of Lekki to LCC.

“To say that its wreckage be preserved as evidence beats my imagination. Whatever evidence any interested person decides to have must have been taken before now as the petitioners do not have any review before the panel to restrain the use of the toll plaza.

“Justice, I must say is a double-edged sword both for the petitioners and the LCC. The company was unfortunate to have its place of business vandalized during the protest. The investigation alluded to from certain persons sent to give evidence before the panel has not been seen to have any connection with the real evidence at the scene.

“It will be foolhardy for any reasonable petitioner to say the toll plaza be closed for the lifetime of the assignment of the panel. The hearing of petitions of victims has not been seen to be tied to the closure of the plaza indefinitely. It is unheard of that a crime scene of this nature would be closed

“Upon all said, I thereby give an order for LCC to repossess the toll gate which has been under the control of the panel upon indication given that the forensic analysis of the said toll plaza are to be concluded. The order made for repossession is for evaluation of the plaza by LCC insurers, renovation and total control.”

According to the judge, “no party has shown evidence of any further need to investigate” the tollgate.
3347  Forum / The Buzz Central / It Was Tougher kissing Than Fighting In Movie - TV Presenter, Idia Aisien on: 7-02-2021 10:56 AM

Model and TV presenter, Idia Aisien, recently added another feather to her cap when she played the lead role in the movie, Nneka the Pretty Serpent. Though it was her first attempt at acting, she has been commended for her output. However, the actress noted that it was tougher for her to kiss her co-star, Kenneth Okolie, than to master the fight scenes she had to do.

Speaking at a private media screening of the movie, Aisien told Sunday Scoop, “There were a lot of fight scenes but it (kissing) was actually harder for me than the fighting. It felt awkward doing something so private in a room full of people. It was a lot to process for me. Now, people know what my pre-wedding pictures would look like.

The actress also stated that she still found it hard to believe that she played the lead role in her first acting attempt. She added, “When I went for the first audition, I did not know I was going to get the part. They wanted someone that could play two characters at the same time and I think they liked what they saw. Till now, it still seems unreal to me. However, I am a very determined and dedicated person, so even when I did not think I would get the role, I gave it my best.”

Revealing some of the things she had to do to get into the character, she said, “To get myself into the character, I worked with an acting coach. I also learnt how to speak Igbo, swim and fight. For the fight scenes I worked with fitness coach, Uzi Kwendu. Being an actress is beyond just going on set and delivering one’s lines. If one does not push oneself, one would not go that far. I was by terrified by this experience but I am definitely going to do it again. The director, Tosin Igho, was also very helpful. My biggest takeaway from this project was how much I learnt. In the future, I wouldn’t also mind directing.”

On how her family members reacted to her performance in the movie, the actress said, “My family members don’t usually watch Nigerian movies but they said I did a good job because they did not even think I could act. However, my sister said there were a lot of kissing scenes in the film and I ‘kissed too much’. I have also got a lot of positive feedback from many people.”

3348  Forum / The Buzz Central / It Took Me Seven Years To Get Pregnant – Actress, Etinosa Idemudia Reveals on: 7-02-2021 10:47 AM

Actress, Etinosa Idemudia, shocked many of her fans when she unveiled her daughter five days to the end of 2020.

The first-time mum stated that she had been trying to get pregnant for seven years, though she had yet to reveal her marital status.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Idemudia said, “Nigeria is filled with very toxic people so one needs to protect one’s loved ones. I have never revealed the identity of my parents or any siblings and I don’t intend to reveal the identity of my husband and children, except they opt for that themselves. I signed up for a public life when I switched careers to join the entertainment industry. I am the public person, not my family members, so I have to respect and guard their privacy. Besides, what does the public need such information for? Did my fans conclude that I am not married? I would rather they are curious about my career plans which is what directly affects them. I did not keep my pregnancy a secret, it was just a private affair, because my true friends, employers and family were very aware that I was pregnant.

“It was a high-risk pregnancy but God saw me through. I was two months gone before I knew I was pregnant. I would not even have known until much later if not that my long-time doctor and friend forced me to do a pregnancy test when I was busy treating ‘stubborn malaria’.”

Speaking on the effects of Bosom feeding on her boobs, the actress said, “I am Bosom feeding heavily and I am already seeing the sagging effects but I don’t care. To me, the Bosom s were made for this purpose, so why hoard it from my own child. Motherhood is the highest sense of responsibility and it requires changes, especially with one’s first child.

“I waited for about seven years (before having this child). My advice to awaiting mothers is that they should take their minds off the issue and relax. It is a tough advice that almost sounds crazy but that was the advice I got from my sister-in-law years ago. She is also a polycystic ovary syndrome conqueror. It worked back then but I lost the pregnancies. Then, I threw away her advice and naturally became anxious. Anxiety turned to desperation and I did take in again, even with the drugs I was taking then. It was not until last year that I finally learnt to relax. Let go and let God.”

3357  Forum / Politics / We Need To Open Up Our Economy, Not Close It - Atiku React To CBN Shutdown Of Cryptocurrency on: 6-02-2021 12:01 PM

The former Vice President noted that with Nigeria’s economic crisis, the country needs all the help it can get to get out of its present economic quagmire.
Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President has faulted the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria to shutdown cryptocurrency operations.

The former Vice President noted that with Nigeria’s economic crisis, the country needs all the help it can get to get out of its present economic quagmire.

He said this in a statement titled, ‘We Need To Open Up Our Economy, Not Close It’, which he signed and made available to newsmen in Abuja, on Saturday.

Atiku said, “The number one challenge facing Nigeria is youth unemployment. In fact, it is not a challenge, it is an emergency. It affects our economy, and is exacerbating insecurity in the nation.

“What Nigeria needs now, perhaps more than ever, are jobs and an opening up of our economy, especially after today’s report by the National Bureau of Statistics indicated that foreign capital inflow into Nigeria is at a four year low, having plummeted from $23.9 billion in 2019, to just $9.68 billion in 2020.

“Already, the nation suffered severe economic losses from the border closure, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is definitely the wrong time to introduce policies that will restrict the inflow of capital into Nigeria, and I urge that the policy to prohibit the dealing and transaction of cryptocurrencies be revisited.”

The former Vice President further said, “It is possible to regulate the sub sector and prevent any abuse that may be inimical to national security. That may be a better option, than an outright shutdown.

“There is already immense economic pressure on our youths. It must be the job of the government, therefore, to reduce that pressure, rather than adding to it.

“We must create jobs in Nigeria. We must expand the economy. We must remove every impediment towards investments. We owe the Nigerian people that much.”

3358  Forum / Politics / US Govt Finally Endorses Okonjo-Iweala For WTO Director-General on: 6-02-2021 11:46 AM

The new Joe Biden administration has said the U.S. would support Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The US government made this known on Friday, February 5, just few hours after South Korea’s trade minister stepped out of the race.

The Biden administration’s decision is the last hurdle standing in the way of Okonjo-Iweala heading the WTO, after South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee pulled out.

Recall last year, Okonjo-Iweala was supported by a majority of WTO members, but the Trump administration backed Ms. Yoo instead, saying she was better candidate.

The statement from the office of the U.S. Trade Representative read: “Dr. Okonjo-Iweala brings a wealth of knowledge in economics and international diplomacy from her 25 years with the World Bank and two terms as Nigerian Finance Minister.”

“She is widely respected for her effective leadership and has proven experience managing a large international organization with a diverse membership”, the statement added.

The USTR continued, “looks forward to working with a new WTO director-general to find paths forward to achieve necessary substantive and procedural reform of the WTO.”

If things go well, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is set to become the first woman and the first African to ever head the Geneva-based trade body.
