| I was shot by colleague for stealing gang’s loot
advertisement * then police came calling
WHAT a confession. The tale as he narrated it will beat the imagination of any man, yet that was exactly what Sunday Vanguard gathered was the past of a car snatching suspect, Chukwudieme Onwuamadike. The 27-year old secondary school drop out from Imo State came to Lagos like many other Nigerians not in search of the proverbial golden fleece, but to live the life of crime with an avowal decision to make it no matter what it will take him and his men. Infact, it could be said that he lived by the gun.
The first in a family of about six children, he has seen it all in the crime world. “I snatched thirty cars in ninety daysâ€, Chukwudieme told reporters. He is now being held at SCID Panti Yaba Lagos and was one of about twenty one robbery suspects paraded last Wednesday at the state police command, Ikeja.
Police sources claimed that luck ran out on the suspect when police got a tip- off that the suspect was on admission in one hospital in Isolo area where he was nursing a bullet wound. Ever since his arrest, Chukwudieme has allegedly made mind -bogging revelations. According to him at the parade, last week, the weapons that the gang used in unleashing terror on its victims were sourced from a French man, while the cars it snatched were sold by one Alhaji Alhasan who resided in the Victoria Garden City, VGC, Lagos. He said that the gang was always interested in exquisite cars and that its operating bases were eateries and shopping malls.
He told Sunday Vanguard: “I lived with my parents in the village before coming to Lagos. I am married with two kids. I joined our gang when in 2003 I met one Chinedu. I cannot count the number of cars I have stolen, all I know is that I have snatched about thirty cars in ninety days. Our victims are always intercepted at the eateries across the nation. Our gang members like Emeka, Felix, Ikenna, Uche and Egu will sit in a particular eatery pretending that they want to buy snacks and drink. Meanwhile, we will be monitoring any person with exotic car of our choice. We would allow the person buy whatever he wants and by the time he leaves, we will trail him to his house. Our driver Uche is a good driver, he will use our Toyota Cricket to follow the person and the man will not notice us.
“No car is too difficult for us to snatch, even with any security you may put in the car. We always like exotic cars because of the big money we get from them. We don’t sell the cars ourselves, once we get them, Ikenna will contact Alhaji Alhasan and hand them over to him for the sale and our money. He lives in VGC. We have stolen many jeeps in Lagos and Owerri. I got a bullet wound in Nnewi in 2003. It was when we wanted to snatch a jeep from one man, we trailed the man until we got to the front of his house. But unknown to us, his security guard had a fully loaded gun and he opened fire on me.
I fell down because of the bullet wounds but other members of our gang rushed back and carried me away. It was later that my mother contacted a native doctor who came and treated me. Another bullet wound I got was from Uche who is a member of our gang, he shot me because Istole about eight hundred thousand gang’s money. When Uche shot me, I was taken to a hospital at Isolo for treatment. Our gang managed to get a police report before I was admitted at that hospital. It was while I was in that hospital receiving treatment from the gun shot wound that one day the police stormed the hospital and arrested me†

Forum / The Buzz Central / Nollywood: Osuofia lands Nigerians in trouble, 62 deported from Amsterdam, Holla |
on: 30-06-2007 07:11 PM
| What was supposed to be a night of celebration for Nigerians in Amsterdam, Holland, turned sour last week as 62 of them have been deported.
Saturday Champion gathered that the people had paid 20 euros each that Friday night to watch Nigeria’s foremost actor, Mr. Nkem Owoh, (aka Osuofia) perform in an event tagged "Osuofia show" at Grand Café, after which the police raided the venue with buses and arrested people without resident permits.
A member of the Nigerian community who pleaded anonymity told Saturday Champion that the Grand Café is owned by one of the Igbo businessmen in Holland.
According to him, it was wrong for the police to have raided the place, most especially considering the negative implication it will have on the owner of the café.
Our source however, said that the Nigerian embassy is yet to react to the development officially.

Rotimi Adebari, a Nigerian who arrived in Ireland seven years ago as an asylum-seeker, was elected unopposed to lead the council of Portlaoise, a bustling commuter town west of Dublin.
Adebari, 43, who has been an independent politician on Portlaoise Town Council since 2004, was backed by both the right-wing Fine Gael party and left-wing Sinn Fein.
Adebari, who planned a post-election party Friday at the new parish hall in Portlaoise, called it "a great honor to become the No. 1 citizen of the town."
Little more than a decade ago, a black person in Ireland risked being gawked at, so rare was the sight of visitors from different racial backgrounds. But Ireland has absorbed more than 30,000 asylum seekers - particularly from Africa's most populous nation, Nigeria - since the mid-1990s, a wave attracted by Ireland's booming economy and its relatively lax immigration rules.
These days, West African entrepreneurs run stretches of shops in urban Dublin and other Irish towns and cities, and social activists like Adebari are encouraging the newcomers to integrate into their communities.
"I got involved in the community and I volunteered. It gave me the opportunity to meet people firsthand and they got to know me," Adebari said. "We all have to make an effort to reach out to one another."
Adebari traveled to Ireland with his wife and two boys in 2000 and claimed asylum on the basis of religious persecution, citing bloody clashes between Christians and Muslims in his homeland. His application was rejected because of insufficient evidence he had personally suffered persecution, but he gained residency because his third child, another boy, was born in Ireland.

| A little boy was afraid of the dark. One night his mother told him to go out to the back porch and bring her the broom.
The little boy turned to his mother and said, "Mama, I don't want to go out there. It's dark."
The mother smiled reassuringly at her son. "You don't have to be afraid of the dark," she explained. "Jesus is out there. He'll look after you and protect you."The little boy looked at his mother real hard and asked, "Are you sure he's out there?"
"Yes, I'm sure. He is everywhere, and he is always ready to help you when you need him," she said.
The little boy thought about that for a minute and then went to the back door and cracked it a little. Peering out into the darkness, he called, "Jesus? If you're out there, would you please hand me the broom?" Grin
