Asif said: “People have been coming round to see the name – and we’ve given pieces of it away too. I’d love to tell you how many people have been here but I honestly lost count, it’s been non-stop.

The divine discovery came to light midway through the holy month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar which is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief.

This is not the first time the word Allah appears on various objects. It was spotted on fish, egg plants, cacti, melons and even on human hands and ears. However, the scholars believe that all these inscriptions are simply flukes.

Two months ago, Kate Henshaw found a little boy, Michael begging for alms with his mother around the bridge descent to Muson center, Onikan, Lagos through an Instagram user named Temeetee.

She was so touched that she pleaded with good Nigerians to help the poor woman and her suffering baby get a better life.

Emir of Kano, Sanusi II, on Tuesday, May 24 made his stand known against child marriages which are dominant in the northern part of Nigeria.

While addressing a conference of Northern Muslims Religious Leaders Forum on Primary Health care in Kano, the former Central Bank Governor explained that the reproductive health challenges associated with such practice was enough to discouraged the age long tradition.

Sanusi said that Nigeria Muslims were ardent followers of Maliki school of thought like Morocco, Malaysia and Egypt, stressing that those brotherly countries had since pegged marriage age.

In his words “I believe the time is ripe to take a stand on this age long practice of early marriage, and coincidentally we subscribed to Malikiyya school of thought like Morocco, Malaysia and Egypt who had since pegged marriage age to 17, 19 and 18 respectively”.

Daily Post reports that Sanusi condemned some cultural practices that encouraged polygamy, adding that, “some of those who engage in this practice do not have the necessary economic power to support themselves”.

The emir who took his audience through the historical lane explained that “in the past, cities like Kano, Katsina, Aghadez, and Timbuktu hold economic power of the Sahel region, and this economic prospect had since shifted to coastal cities around the globe”.

In his remarks regarding wife battery and domestic violence, Sanusi said that Islam abhors assault on women. He enjoined those involved in the act to desist from such practice.

“I don’t expect my in-law to lay his hand on my daughter, but I have since urged her to retaliate any form of assault from her husband,” Sanusi disclosed.

Palpable fear may be greeting men of the Nigeria police as a colleague of theirs, corporal Torbee Atorough, attached to the Ibafo police division, Ogun state, is reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen believed to be militants.

The Punch reports that Atorough was abducted at his post in Ibafo, notorious for pipeline vandalism and oil theft on May 11 2016.

It was learnt that the alleged militants operating around the creeks in the area were flagged down by the corporal and three of his colleagues at about 8.30pm.

Rather than wait, the driver of the snatched car in which the militants travelled zoomed off. This prompted Atorough to chase them with a motorcycle alone.
However, since he went after them, he is yet to be seen.


His colleagues were said to later trail the alleged gunmen but could not find them or the corporal who is from Benue state and has five children.

The police, after a futile effort to get their colleagues later arrested the owner of the car and three other suspects. The other three police officers were also detained.

One of the arrested suspects confessed that the police officer was with his colleagues.
Wilson Atorough, who came from Benue as a result of the incident, said corporal Atorough had earlier complained that he was suspecting some of his colleagues at the police division.

“On May 13, I received a call from one of our people in Ibafo that my brother had been missing since May 11, while he was on duty with his colleagues.

“I came to the station and was told that the case had been transferred to the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta. On getting there, I learnt that the owner of the vehicle and three other suspects were in detention.

“The car owner said he had called the police station that evening to report that the vehicle was stolen at gunpoint, but he did not get any response.

“He claimed that he later recovered the vehicle where it was parked. One of the three other suspected militants confessed in my presence that he was among those who abducted my brother. He said he was shot and taken away by other militants.

“I was taken to a deputy commissioner of police and after I explained to him that my brother had earlier told us that his colleagues were after his life, he ordered that the three policemen should be arrested.”

China’s ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming has released a stern statement seeking to battle misinformation that he said was harming China’s reputation in Africa.

The palava was caused by reports online claiming that China was taking dead bodies, marinating them, putting them in cans and then selling them in African supermarkets.

“This is completely a malicious slandering and vilification, which is absolutely unacceptable to us,” according to Youming’s statement, which was widely reported in Chinese state media.

Chinese state media accused tabloids in Zambia of spreading the rumors, stating that people with ulterior motives were attempting to destroy the long-standing partnership between Zambia and China.

A number of blogs and other publications appeared to have picked up the stories from Facebook.

Some reports quoted people who allegedly worked in Chinese meat factories as saying that the practice had begun because China had run out of space to bury their dead or that Beijing reserved its good, nonhuman meat for more powerful countries.

Fast rising fuji musician Olumide Awise is dead. Awise was confirmed dead in the early hours of Wednesday, May 18, 2016.

The Agege based fuji artist died in his Agbado home after a brief illness. He has since been buried according to Islamic injunction.

Awise was well known for his Fuji Lori Reggae album in which he featured renowned fuji act Wasiu Alabi Pasuma.

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on Tuesday, May 17, admitted that there was no evidence to show that Senate president, Bukola Saraki bought a piece of undeclared property.

This was disclosed by Michael Wetkas, a detective of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and a witness in the case while being cross examined by Paul Usoro (SAN), Saraki’s counsel.

Wetkas admitted that admitted that there was no evidence to show that Senate president, Bukola Saraki bought a piece of undeclared property

The property being referred to in the case is located at 15 McDonald street, Ikoyi, Lagos, which Saraki allegedly did not declare.

Wetkas, said that he did not check if the records of the property were at the Lagos Land Registry.

Based on a joint inspection report of the EFCC and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) of the property on July 28, 2006‎, Usoro asked Wetkas if the committee from which the defendant allegedly bought the property numbered the street but Wetkas denied knowledge.
Usoro asked: “You do know that the committee does not deal with private property?”

Wetkas replied: “Yes. It only deals with government property.”
“Usoro asked: “Why did you go to the Lagos Land Registry?”

Wetkas: “For verification of property at 15A and B‎ McDonald, Ikoyi, Lagos.”

“Usoro: “Are you aware that Lagos state government does not keep title deeds of federal government property?”

Wetkas: “I don’t know.”
Usoro: “Your inquiry to Lagos Land Registry how was it?

Wetkas: “It was in writing.”
Usoro: “Was the property in the reply of the registry?”

Wetkas: “I can’t recall.”
Usoro: “Did you check with them if they have a record of the property?‎”
Wetkas: “I didn’t check.‎”

Usoro: “Did you come across any document saying that the defendant bought personally the property in the course of your investigation?”

Wetkas:  “There was none.”

However, the witness went on to explain that the property was paid for through the account of Carlye Properties and Investment Limited, one of Saraki’s companies.
He also claimed that the offer letter for the loan was signed by the wife of the defendant on behalf of the company.

Saraki has been charged with 13 counts of false declarations of assets while he was the governor of Kwara state.

A federal high court sitting in Lagos has stopped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from electing anyone into offices of the national chairman, national secretary and national auditor of the party at the party’s national convention on May 21 in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state.

The order restraining the party from conducting elections was in respect of a suit brought before the court by  Sheriff, the National Secretary, Prof. Olawale Oladipo and the National Auditor, Alhaji Fatai Adewale Adeyanju.

Incumbent national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is the sole candidate for the office of the chairman.

Justice I.N. Buba, granted the request for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the 2nd Defendant/Respondent from conducting any election into the offices of the national chairman, national secretary and national auditor pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

It also granted a similar order restraining INEC from monitoring and or recognizing the conduct of any election into the offices of the affected offices pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

Meanwhiel, a group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have accused the Deputy President of Senate, Ike Ekweremadu and some persons in the Southwest PDP leadership of betraying the Southwest in the affairs of the PDP.

He asked that the trial should not be stalled and should be treated fairly.

He also said that Kanu Agabi, the lead counsel to Saraki, should be the primary lawyer to carry out the cross examination of the witness.

“I swear by Allah that we are all human beings and one day if one of us can pass all these laws, we must be fair to ourselves,” he said.
Recently, the CCT admitted error in discharging Tinubu some years ago.

This was disclosed by Rotimi Jacobs, the lead counsel to the federal government on Saraki’s case said tribunal was misled to discharge Tinubu.

Tinubu who was arraigned before the tribunal in November, 2011 was charged with operating foreign bank accounts, contrary to the constitution.
The tribunal dismissed the case against Tinubu based on arguments that the bureau did not establish a prima facie case.

He was also accused of operating 10 foreign accounts during his tenure as governor between 1999 and 2007 in the charges filed against him by CCB at the tribunal.

The case was dismissed at the second appearance of the former governor at the court as it declared that there was no significant basis to proceed against Tinubu as the charges were “defective and shoddy.”

A fight broke out between a bus conductor and a roadside tout over money
A bus had stopped at the Ikeja Along bus-stop, Lagos, to allow a passenger disembark, when the bus conductor was approached by a roadside tout popularly known as ‘agbero’ asking him to ‘settle’ him with a certain amount of money.

An argument ensued between the two of them and quickly escalated to a fight. People quickly gathered around them and tried to separate them, but they refused to let go of each other.

They were left to battle it out and ended up in a gutter. When asked the reason why they were exchanging blows the agbero said the conductor refused to pay him, claiming he was carrying a ‘staff’ (uniformed officer) which automatically entitles him to no payment of the charge.

The duo were later separated by members of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Subomi Owo-Odusi, founder of FueledUp, has created an application that will deliver fuel straight to its users in Lagos state.

The app is due to launch at the end of May.
“This will take away a lot of the pain and pressure and stress of people waiting for hours,” the young Nigerian said.

According to the developer, the idea came to him from his experiences of life in Lagos.
“I understand the stress that people here have,” said Owo-Odusi, who is from Lagos.
The instructions of the using of the application are very easy.

After downloading it Nigerians will be able to touch a “Get FueledUp” button, which displays the price per liter. Then, the customers enter how much petrol they need, car information and choose a delivery time frame.
The price for such a service will be the cost of the fuel plus a small fee for the transportation.

Nigeria has been suffering from fuel crisis for months. Despite being Africa’s largest oil producer, it had huge fuel lacks a year ago which nearly paralyzed the country.

However, oil marketers in the South-West zone of the country commenced loading of petrol in Apapa, Lagos, as the main depots offer 24 hours service.

Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of petroleum, apologised to Nigerian over the lingering fuel scarcity in the country and his “no magic wand” comment.

The police in Lambe area of Ogun state have been accused of trying to stage a cover-up after the bodies of two children were found in a church premise.

According to The Punch, the two children, six-year-old Isaac Ayegbo, a primary 2 pupil, and Ayomide Innocent, 4, who was in Nursery 1, went missing on Sunday, April 2. Their bodies were discovered at a church in the community, Christ Crusaders’ Deliverance Ministry on Tuesday, April 5.

It was reported that that Ayomide’s mother brought him to Isaac’s mother to look after before she travelling to the Republic of Benin on Friday,

The two children were playing in front of the residence which was in front of the church when they disappeared. Isaac’s father, Abiodun Ayegbo reported their disappearance to the Agboado police division but was told to return the following day.
He said: “Ayomide was my friend’s son and he was brought to my wife when his mother travelled.

“She did not take him along because of his school because she would spend about six months there. They (Isaac and Ayomide) came back with my wife from church on Sunday and she gave them food.

“After eating, they went playing around the house. It was my grandmother who raised the alarm when she did not see them. I was told on the telephone to come home when they could not be found.

“I was called this morning (Tuesday) from the station and on getting there, the policemen took me to Christ Crusaders’ Deliverance Ministry, where their corpses were recovered.”

Abiodun’s brother, Kunle Ayegbo, said he found the slippers Isaac wore on the day he went missing inside a car on the church premises and that about eight pairs of sandals were also found inside a bus, where their corpses were recovered.

He said: “The police initially wanted to change the fact that the children were found dead on the church premises, but we stood our grounds. I took some pictures in the church but we were not allowed to take the picture of the children. I found Isaac’s slippers inside a car and about eight other sandals in a bus. I suspect foul play and want this case to be properly investigated and the culprits brought to book.

“Some boys in the community nearly set the church on fire. The policemen and I had to calm them down. We want justice on this matter”

Mr. Yemi Adebisi who is a pastor at the church headquarters said the discovery was a mystery as guard usually manned the premise.

Mother Margarita de Jesus Zapata has been jailed for 22 years for selling her daughter’s virginity

The girl, who was 17 at the time, said she was abused since the age of 12, her virginity was sold for 300.000 Colombian pesos (around N19.370) and her baby was aborted.

According to some media sources, the evil mom sold her daughters’ virginities once they turned 12 years old, whereupon they have to work in sex industry to pay the bills.

Police chief Carlos Melendez, investigating the case, said: “It hurts that a mother would do this. ‘The mother contacted highly solvent but depraved men so they could have sex with the minors when they turned 12.”

Zapata was arrested along with Tito Cornelio Daza, 51, a man believed to be a biological father of the girl’s baby. The pair were found guilty of carnal abuse of a minor and the enforcement of prostitution.

Daza was jailed for 12 years, while Zapata, who denied all the allegations brought against her, was sentenced to 22 year behind the bars. Some of her daughters reportedly cooperated with the investigators, they are currently in care of local social services.
