21  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Three Policemen Arraigned over Rape of 16-Yr-Old Girl on: 31-12-2010 05:06 AM
12/30/2010 in Kano

A Kano State Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded till January17, 2011 the three police officers accused of kidnapping and molesting a 16-year-old girl.

The court presided by Chief Magistrate Hadiza Dahiru Mustapha yesterday asked the accused to be remanded until their case comes up next year.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) against them, the trio of Dantalle Muhammad, Yusuf Ibrahim (alias Shanawa) and Salisu Mamuda and three others now at large, last October in the night at Kofar Nassarawa Station Tower asked the girl to disembark from a commercial motorcycle under the pretext that they were taking her home.

Instead, they allegedly took her to the Kwalli Police Barracks and raped her. After the charges were read to the accused, they all denied the charges.

Two of the accused persons, Constables Ibrahim and Mamuda, were earlier dismissed from service by the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Tambari Yabo Muhammad, while the third accused, Inspector Muhammad, was demoted to sergeant, after the orderly room trial by the police.

Speaking at a press conference, the police commissioner said he took the action against the officers after reviewing the orderly room trial conducted by the police, noting that the dismissed officers were the prime suspects in the case.

Muhammad remarked further that his office would soon send the case diary to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution at the state Ministry of Justice for review for professional advice and prosecution.

The commissioner stated that the civilians involved in the matter had fled but the police were still looking for them, adding that they had information that they had taken refuge in Lagos and Ibadan.

“These run-away suspects forgot that they cannot run away from the law. They forgot that it is the same Nigerian police working in Lagos and Ibadan. The long arms of the law will, God willing, catch up with them.

“Thank God, the police work exposes us to all the nooks and crannies of the federation. All of us have served in Lagos at one time or the other. We know Owode, Mile 12, Agege and wherever they want to go and hide,” he said.

Whats up in our head? Why is it that most of us in this site like criticizing nigeria? Saying all sorts of words bout us. Why making us sound as if we're d worst country in d world. Just becos u're no longer in nigeria doesn't mean u're no longer a nigerian. If u like, leave d country, change ur skin colour, change ur name still deep down u knw u're a nigerian.I want u to knw that when u talk shit about naija,u're talking shit about urself.I am a NIGERIAN and i'm proud of it.I rep my country so keep fooling urselves to the white folks who still see u as nigerians

i luv my country Nigeria so much im addicted to the Nigerian identity and i enjoy being called a nigerian even as i stay abroad. Some times when i walk on the street, take the metro or when i drive people stare at me like they've seen a ghost i just laugh it off some are even bold to come up me and ask me of my nationality i feel proud to tell them that i'm Nigerian 100 percent when i tell them some run away while others that knows the true meaning of life hook up with me and even take pics on xmas day my house was filled with lots of white people who are non nigerians. its rather unfortunate that many of us that have the opportunity of either stayin or visitin other countries taint our country's  image and our black race thats why the useless stupid idiotic foreigners even the common Ghanaians have guts to insult and look down on us... besides our foolish top govt officials, biz men n women etc tends to favor the foreigners for some petty dollars at the expense of our country's image....

i don't care what anybody says, im a Nigerian 100 percent and i remain a Nigerian with a difference forever. amen

I know how dangerous that road is cos its wide and with unexpected diversions on it due to construction still going on and heavy traffic due to travellers from other states, the airport, and other parts of the city... its really unfortunate that most of our drivers think they are on a race circuit thats why they drive without thinking of other road users, residents by the roads their family or the passengers in their vehicles....May the souls of the departed RIP and may God grant speedy recovery to the injured.

pls this is a reminder to those alive: We have only one life, we have family, friends, loved ones, and those whom we mentor knowingly or unknowingly pls lets think of them and drive safely and defensively... we shouldn't practice Electronic Arts Need For Speed Hot Pursuit (EA NFSHP) games or even James Bond 007 style of driving. we luv u and we need u to survive cos ur important to us...thanks.

Bomb explosions disrupt political rally in Nigeria

Abuja, Dec 30 (PTI) Two bomb blasts have disrupted the political rally of a governorship candidate in Yenogoa, the capital city of Nigeria''s south eastern state of Bayelsa, wounding several persons.

The bombs exploded yesterday just as the governorship aspirant, Senator Beinmo Rufus-Spiff of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) braced up to address his supporters.

Elections are scheduled for next year and aspirants are trying to woo support ahead of party primaries.

"A lady named Doris Orubra and her younger brother, Ebikeseye Orubra were injured by the bomb and were rushed to the hospital. They were standing behind the sport where one of the bombs exploded," an eyewitness told PTI.

The governorship aspirant, Rufus-Spiff is wheel chair bound after an accident he sustained a few years ago, but he went ahead to address few people who stayed behind after the bombing.

"I am not deterred by the bomb blast that rocked this rally and must not abandon my ambition," he said.

The State Commissioner of Police, Aliya Musa confirmed the incident. "I visited the scene to assess things by myself and my observation is that the person that planted the bomb did so to obstruct the rally but no arrests have been made for now.".

The oil-rich African country is gearing up for its fourth elections after the military relinquished power in 1999 following many years of dictatorship by army generals but several bombing incidents have threatened the relative peace that characterises the elections often fraught with manipulations.

On Christmas eve, 32 people were killed while more than 100 were wounded when string of blasts hit Jos town in central Nigeria, just as suspected Islamic fundamentalists massacred six Christians in a nearby town of Maiduguri.

The casualty figure later rose to 82 even as another killing of three persons was reported in the same zone.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced April 9 as the date for the country''s presidential elections following an amendment of the constitution by the parliament

The actor suffered fatal injuries during a Christmas skiing trip in Switzerland, according to the crazy online story, but Murphy's spokesperson has moved swiftly to dismiss the shock speculation.

The rep tells EW.com, "Absolutely false. I just spoke with him."

Aretha Franklin, Aaron Carter, Charlie Sheen and Adam Sandler have also been at the centre of fictional death reports in the past week. Sandler was also reportedly the victim of a skiing-related accident in Switzerland.

40  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Re: Traffic: Blessing for the hawkers on: 16-12-2010 01:59 PM
traffic hawking/ trading as dangerous as it may be seem to be one of the few ways the poor people could get thier daily stipends especially in traffic congested urban centres in developing countyires world wide....the govt, in partnership with private investors can help absorb a large population of these traffic traders by creating more job openings, especially jobs requiring some form of their physical inputs while the under-aged /school aged traders be pushed back into schools, at least this will lessen their stay on traffic thus reducing accident hazards, raise a considerable amount working class/technocrats,and also generate more income for the people which will aslo amount to gains for the govt, such laws can be made and enforced.
