I agree with ya acknowledging the fact that it`s gradually turning into a tradition, but the figure "85%" is over exaggerated and misleading; don`t even think of 5%, that`s much. The learning condition in our schools is bad & very bad in some cases but believe me, Nigeria does not only produce one of the highest number of graduates per year in the world, but produces one of the most qualified candidate for the labour market that could compete neck to neck with those of Europe & America. Nigeria has problem in some engineering Areas & Medicine not cos of lack of qualified professors/lecturers but cos of inadequate learning/ practical equipments. Just that we have the tradition of making a mountain out of a little stone.

Forum / Relationships & Romance / Give me poverty & take Illiteracy |

| The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows & ONE, WHO NEGLECTS EDUCATION, WALKS LAME TO THE END OF HIS LIFE!
Talking about illiteracy c`l be a completely different topic depending on how you w`d want to define the word "illiteracy" to suit ur argument. Great men & women abound, who never saw the 4-walls of the university & in some cases high school, but c`l read, write & verbally defend themselves to any length with good command & manners.Men & women who has taken it upon themselves to leave where they `r & go where they ought to be by themselves or with informal help without any formal education. Men, who are more exposed & disposed than university professors.
The high level of "educated illiterates" in the so called third-world is contagious, dreadful & alarming, but who cares? who? as long as he has a degree.
In marriage, literacy stands on one hand while the heart stands on the other.
However, I`ll say, "OPEN THE DOOR OF EDUCATION, AND BE FREE FOREVER"

| COULD THIS BE TRUE?
I HAVE NEVER BEEN AS SHOCKED AS I WAS WHEN I OPENED A SITE AND I SAW HOW FAR BIAFRAN CAMPAIGNERS IN DIASPORA ESPECIALLY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND IN UNITED KINGDOM HAS GONE IN THEIR CAMPAIGN FOR THE SOVEREIGN STATE OF BIAFRA WHICH SOME PREFER TO REFER TO AS THE UNITED STATES OF BIAFRA. THE MAIN BODY WHICH HAS SO MANY AFFILIATES INCLUDING RADIO BIAFRA; AN ON-LINE RADIO NETWORK, NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES, SUB-ORGANIZATIONS ETC. IS ACCELERATING TO OVERTAKE TIME.
THE BODY ALSO HAS A WELL ORGANIZED AND INFLUENTIAL LEADERSHIP WHICH IS CLAIMED TO BE RECOGNIZED BY MOST POWERFUL / MOST IMPORTANT COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD WITH ITS HEADQUARTERS IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THE ORGANIZATION HAS AS CLAIMED A VERY SOLID FINANCIAL BASIS WITH IT´S MEMBERS IN DIFFERENT SECTORS WORLD OVER.
LET´S KNOW WHAT YOU THINK:
1. WOULD YOU REALLY WANT NIGERIA TO BREAK-UP ALONG NORTH & SOUTH POLE LIKE INDIA & PAKISTAN DID?
2. IF YOU WOULD, ON WHAT SIDE WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?
3. WHERE EXACTLY WOULD THE BOARDERS OF NIGERIA & THE STATES OF BIAFRA BE?
4. DO YOU THINK THE SECESSION OF BIAFRA FROM NIGERIA WOULD BRING ABOUT DEVELOPMENT AND TRUE DEMOCRACY?
5. WHAT ´LL BE THE FATE OF NIGERIA IF BIAFRA SECEDES?

| She may be small in stature, but the soulful voice of singer Nneka Egbuna is anything but.
It is no surprise that the petite Nigerian-born singer-songwriter lists Bob Marley and Nina Simone among her influences. Just as it was for them, Nneka's music "isn't just about the music" -- it's a call for change.
"It's to show the world that people come together for one reason -- in this case music. We are representing that love," Nneka told CNN.
Her music is a celebration of diversity. "We are all different in color, everybody has their own baggage, their own experience, but we have a way to communicate and this is the essence of this tour," she told CNN midway through her Concrete Jungle tour of the United States. Nneka's musical profile has steadily risen since her 2005 debut album titled "Victim of Truth," -- which was listed as one of the records of the year by Timesonline.co.uk in 2006. In 2009, she won the Best African Act award at the UK's Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards.
Now on her fourth album, Nneka is garnering rave reviews from the likes of Rolling Stone and Billboard magazines, while Spin magazine described her as one of the artists to watch for 2010.
Earlier this year, she performed on the David Letterman show introducing her to a massive U.S. audience.
At times it is easy to mistake her cool and laidback attitude for shyness but get her talking about issues close to her heart and she emerges as a firecracker with a big heart and many passions.
Born to a Nigerian father and German mother, Nneka grew up in her hometown of Warri, Nigeria, before leaving at the age of 19 to study in Germany.
Those years away from home made her examine what it meant to be Nigerian. And in the process, she found herself.
"The period of time that I spent in Germany educated me a lot about being Nigerian. Before, I never really was that conscious of my surrounding, of our politics. I knew that there was something going on, but I never really felt responsible," said Nneka.
Today she is on a crusade to address issues affecting her people -- her haunting cry for peace and love for her motherland written all over her music.
Fans are familiar with the various themes of injustice and oppression that drive her music and performances.
"If you listen to my music, I do have a lot to do, issues that are very delicate to the Nigerian ear, talking about our politics at present, or the corruption, or the oil exploitation in the Niger Delta," said the singer who is from the troubled region.

| There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action. Where ignorance is the master, violence rules. In the absence of govt. security & justice justice, what is sovereignty but organized robbery/crime?
The most painful part of it all is that the ppl behind all these are the supposed govt., religious & community leaders. It has been alleged that sometimes our money is being used to sponsor our killing: that is democracy the Nigerian way.

| Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal well meaning but without understanding. Nigeria had since the early 70s over-empowered it`s military in defence of the hoodlums in power to the disadvantage of ordinary Nigerian citizen that it does not know it`s area of jurisdiction any more.
In a state of lawlessness like ours, the few opportuned once rule and like the saying goes, "he whose father sends stealing, burgles with pride & confidence. what a shame!

| The ambiguity of my contribution earlier 2day has led to the receipt of several mails demanding a clear explanation of my position. I tried being neutral. First, we, the ladies deserve to be respected by men in all aspect especially when it matters on our segxwal life just as we should respect & adore our men knowing fully well we derive our taste, flavour & colour(our glory) from them. On the other hand, "life" must be cherished & justice sought in that respect where necessary. I`v the impression that the beautiful young girl in question is being economical with the truth and to that effect, no conclusive statement or argument c`d be made until investigation result confirms that. Be it as it may, what is bad must be condemned outrightly . Rape has never been one of the Nigerian "evil" practices like it is in some African & south-American countries & whoever engages himself with such evil deserves no life.

| It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree. Those who agree with us may not be right, but we admire their astuteness Civilization is a method of living, an attitude of equal respect for all. I`ts built on a number of ultimate principles...respect for human life, the punishment of crimes against property and persons, the equality of all good citizens before the law...or, in a word justice. We`v get to grow! | | | |
