Forum / The Buzz Central / Re: Was That Necessary? Actress Chika Ike Posts Her WAEC Result To Proof Her Age |
on: 16-12-2012 05:30 PM
| It still does not prove your age.
All it proves is, when you started school that is the date of birth your family swore to!!!! Lots of Nigerians do not know when they were really born!! Some because of the illiteracy of their parents who could only guess by linking the birth to various events that happened around the time of their child's birth. And again because the registration of the birth of children in Nigeria is relatively a new thing. It started with the National Population Commission in the late 80's early 90's.
What about your birth certificate? Would not that have been the better paper to show the "world?"
Or better still. Dentists have the technique (not sure about Nigerian dentists?) to discover the real age of people through their teeth. This method has been used when immigrants (trying to get welfare) swear their children are younger tan they really look!!

| 5th sexiest accent in the world?
I would have preferred Nigeria having the 5th best economy in the world or the 5th best university in the world. Or even better still, Nigeria being the 5th most popular holiday destination in the world. What about Nigeria being the 5th most honest country in the world?
These are the things that matter to me a proud citizen of Nigeria.

on: 10-12-2012 10:12 AM
| It's a pity what happened. The Greeks should explain to the world how the two Nigerians and other black families living in their midst contributed to the collapse of their economy. Should they not be going after the Greek politicians who mishandled their finance and management of the country? I am yet to see any black person in the Greek government. Of course I do not expect the Nigeria government to do much about it!!!
P.S Was it really sensible to publish passport numbers and resident permit numbers? I don't think so.

| Too little action to late. The landlord should have been aware that his tenant was not using the place as her residence but had instead "converted" it into a "health facility." How often was the landlord visiting his premises? Had no other tenant living in the premises made a complaint? It appears all turned a blind eye. Numerous complaints had been made to the police in the past? Did they investigate? Did the police not find it strange that an unregistered "health facility" was operating within their area. Why did the police not investigate after the first complaint from one of the mother's? Tenants say money was changing hands - does this mean the pregnant women who visited there were aware of what was taking place- the selling of new born babies? Was money also changing hands with the police in the area for them to turn a blind eye? There are lots of questions that need to be answered.
I do not think it is an Igbo problem. If we go into the archives it has been reported over the media and in the press and involved other tribes.
Even as we read the article it is going on and people and the police are aware. How many of these innocent babies are being used for evil purposes? How many are being passed onto paedophiles.
No wonder Nigeria has been voted the worst place to be born on earth!!!

on: 4-12-2012 09:07 AM
| First of all, no Nigeria university was named amongst the best 500 universities in the world but we were nearly declaring a public holiday because the University of Lagos was the 9th best in Africa and now we want to crack open bottles of champagne because N. Okonja is the 81st most powerful woman in the world. If my son or daughter came home in either of those positions I would deem it a failure.
Nigeria should drop the defeatist mentality and strive to do better.

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Re: EXTORTION: Parents Demands N2Bn For Death of Their Kid In Winners Chapel |
on: 4-12-2012 08:57 AM
| The words "callous and senseless killing" I think are inappropriately used. The little girl's death was accidental - a drum of water left uncovered!!!! I agree the parents should seek compensation for their loss. However they will have to prove she was "senselessly killed" - this term alludes to murder in my book. The term - "senselessly died" seems more appropriate. Unless of course we are not being told the whole story and she was murdered in the toilet and her body found in a drum of water? And it's a pity in the 21st century Nigeria has not installed water pipes to provide constant water supply to households and schools etc. The parents should go and look at the contract they signed with the school when their daughter started there and determine what rights they have in seeking compensation.
GOOD LUCK.

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Re: Nigerian Woman, Bunmi Awoniyi Named Superior Court Judge In US |
on: 4-12-2012 08:31 AM
| Ms. Bunmi Awoniyi completed all of her education in England. She attended the University of Essex and completed her Bachelor of Law with Honors in 1986. She thereafter obtained a Masters of Law from the University of Leicester which was conferred in 1988. Her thesis The Detection and Investigation of Child Abuse was published. She attended the Inns of Court School of Law in London, England and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in November of 1988 as a Barrister at Law. She is a member of the Honorable Society of Lincoln's Inn and Inner Temple in England and Wales and remains in good standing. Ms. Awoniyi was admitted as an Attorney and Counselor at Law in the State of California in 1991. Ms. Awoniyi began practicing Family Law in 1992.
Ms. Awoniyi is an active member of both her State and Local Bar Associations. She has served in a number of leadership positions: Past President of the Wiley Manuel Bar Association (Association of African American Attorney's, Sacramento Chapter) Past Vice President and Sergeant at-arms for the same organization Elected Member at Large, Sacramento County Bar Association (first term three years 2002-2005, Second term one year 2006). She has recently been appointed to her 3rd term which commenced in 2007 Past Board Member on the California State University Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution Past Committee Member on the Sacramento Advisory Committee set up to address and evaluate data regarding vehicle stops and racial profiling with the Sacramento Police Department (2001-2002) Past Participant and representative on Operation Protect & Defend The Constitutional Project sponsored by the Sacramento County Bar Association and The Federal Bar Association (2002-2003) Serves in a volunteer capacity in the Family Law Department of the Sacramento County Superior Court Actively involved in representing minors in court appointed cases Active in the Sacramento Superior Courts Pro Per Clinic and Mediation programs Has previously taught Family Law at Lorenzo Patino School of Law as an adjunct professor She is a member of the following associations participating in their events: AILA: American Immigration Lawyers Association CPDA: California Public Defenders Association Member of Sacramento County Bar Association and its Family Law Section Member of California Bar Association and its Family Law Section Member of the Sacramento County Children's Counsel Section Member of the American Inns of Court, Anthony M. Kennedy Inn (Sacramento) Sacramento Collaborative Law Group
Having practiced as family law litigator for many years Ms. Awoniyi has had the opportunity of seeing the financial and emotional toll that litigation has on families. Oftentimes seeing that even in so called victory the trauma to the parties, their children and extended family is costly and lasting. The seeds of distrust and discord having been so deeply sown she has seen how hard it is for these families to heal and move forward and the children invariably become caught in the middle of the adversarial cycle.
Ms. Awoniyi was concerned that the needs of her clients were not being adequately served with the limited option of traditional litigation in family law. It was with this mindset that she determined to become trained and proficient in both Mediation and Collaborative Negotiation, so that these options can be presented to clients as viable alternatives. It has been her experience that where parties are informed at the outset of the option of Mediation and or Collaborative Negotiation they will opt for one of these alternatives. She believes that most parties want to be equipped with the skills to resolve their own controversy without an outcome being imposed upon them by a Judge who does not know them, their circumstances or their children. Ms. Awoniyi has undergone extensive training as a Mediator and Collaborative Attorney. Her experience convinces her that parties walk away better equipped to resolve future controversy's without resorting to litigation. Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Re: University of Lagos (UNILAG) Ranked As 9th Best University In Africa |
on: 29-11-2012 09:27 AM
| THE latest worldwide universities' ranking shows that Nigerian universities have dropped out of reckoning because of the poor quality and scope of research conducted by indigenous academics. No Nigerian university featured on the world best 500 universities list. Indeed from the African continent, only the University of Cape Town, South Africa made the list. More embarrassing was the fact that even among the contending universities in Africa, the best Nigerian university was ranked number 44, trailing behind some universities in Kenya, South Africa, and Ghana. Last year, five Nigerian universities - the University of Ibadan (UI), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), University of Benin (UNIBEN), University of Lagos (UNILAG), and University of Jos (UNIJOS) - were among the first 100 universities in Africa. This time, only four Nigerian universities were among the best hundred. Their ascribed positions were embarrassing. While OAU came in a distant 44th position, UI, Nigeria's premier was number 65, and Uniben number 79. Unilag made an embarrassing 90th position. All the other universities did not feature at all. This should be bad news to the Nigerian government? | | | |
