At the recent V-Channel's Celeb's guest gathering in lagos, they had an interactive session with Cossy Orjiakor and the audience where privileged to ask her their choice questions.

Her most embarrassing moment:… 'I was driving and in the traffic, the guy walked up to me and grabbed my boobs and walked away.

Why she thrives on scandals?… 'don’t love scandals. I don’t like to be in the news too. I just love to be myself. I don’t try to be any other person but me. I’m a good girl.

On her dress sense: …'I wear 4DD. I’m so blessed. It’s not that I’m out to flaunt it, but it’s just that clothes don’t get to cover it all. It’s not really my fault.

On her fears:… I’m afraid of not making heaven and getting old to live alone

Her marital status? ... 'I’m single, not engaged and I’m waiting for the diamond ring.

When she was asked to pray, Cossy declined. Said:… 'I’m a sinner.

A week ago, Africa’s biggest reality show, Big Brother Africa (BBA) crowned Dillish Matthews the winner of BBA- The Chase. The same week, a Namibian journalist exclusively interviewed Dillish where she said she was looking for her biological father. Dillish has never come face-to-face with him and only learned about him from her mother.
And now, a Kenyan man, who claims to be Dillish’s father has come out to say he fathered Dillish during his peacekeeping mission in Namibia. Her mum once said she lost contact with her real dad when he stopped replying her letters. See a picture of the man after the cut.

50  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Pensioners’ Woes: The Need For Labour Movement’s Concerted Response By Kola Ibra on: 3-09-2013 08:28 PM
“Since we were retired, no kobo was paid to me. Every time, we would be called to come to Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, to fill one form after another.
Sometimes, we sleep at Awolowo Road on the bare floor, for us to be attended to. In spite of that, nothing had come out of it. It was only in 2010 October that I was paid, since then, no payment. My children in school, I can’t provide for them. Anytime they come back, we all starve and they will cry all day till they go back. There is nobody to help me except God, my husband died in 2003.”
This was how the Vanguard newspaper of 22 August, 2013 reported Mrs. Thompson Imakop, a retiree from the National Bureau of Statistics, “who, retired in 2007, was only paid in 2010, lamenting that before and after 2010, she had not received a dime as pension.”
If her story is not pathetic enough, then listen to that of Mr. Muftau Baruwa, Senior foreman in the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, “who retired since 11 years and three months ago, said he was just a living dead, saying “I served 35 years and received a merit award twice by the Federal Government through two different level 14 officers. I joined the service on 19 May, 1967 and I retired May 25, 2002. As we speak, I have not been paid a kobo, both my gratuity and pension. I have been to the hospital twice since my retirement… I think death is better than this suffering. Most times, I will go into the streets to beg for money to feed. Severally, for two days I will not feed.””
These are just two of several thousand cases of suffering of retired workers from government and private employment across the country. Hundreds have died of curable diseases and poverty among these retired workers, who have been criminally, denied their entitlement after committing their adult lives to the country. If you feel that the inhuman treatment of senior citizens is limited to the federal government, then ask state retirees in Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Abia, Delta or Kano, and you will be proven wrong. Yet, public and political office holders continue to live opulently on the blood of long suffering retirees while Senators want to award themselves live pensions for four-year “service”.
While Mrs. Imakop and Mr. Baruwa are lamenting, just one John Yakubu, converted N23 billion of police pension fund to his own. While he was only given a slap on the wrist with a fine of N750, 000, another man who was employed to uncover the mismanagement of pension funds, Abdulrahman Maina, was himself “uncovered” by a Senate Committee to have mismanaged (read loot) billions of naira from the pension fund. Mr. Maina has jetted out of the country with the support of the presidency! These are just two individuals out of several others involved in feeding fat on the misery of poor and hapless pensioners.
Pensioners’ woes are made worse by the virtual collapse of social services, which in effect has turned every household into a mini-government. Public education is being taken out of the reach of the poor and working people with LASU, UNIOSUN, EKSU demanding an average of N150, 000 as fees from students; while public hospitals are more like death centres for serious ailments. In this kind of milieu, retirement is more like being sentenced to permanent poverty, except for the few big bureaucrats. Even when workers are in service, they can hardly make ends meet with their meager salaries.
As if that’s not enough, the ruling elite, in order to legalize and legitimize the looting of retirees’ pensions have come up with the dubious Contributory Pension Scheme, enacted in 2004 under the Pension Reform Act. By these laws, government is shedding off the load of ensuring pension for workers, while handing them over to the private shylocks and profiteers, organized under Pension Fund Administrators (PFA) and Custodians (PFC). Indeed, these private profiteers are a gang of bankers, politicians and big business people, who have set up these companies to feed fat on workers’ pensions. Moreover, the new pension arrangement frees up more money for politicians, not to invest in other social services like education, healthcare, job provision, etc, but to loot, just as over $400 billion has been reported looted by them since 1999.
According to this Contributory Pension Scheme, workers and employers (both government and private) are to contribute 7.5 percent of each worker’s salary into the pension fund, to be administered by PFAs and PFCs. Aside the fact that the idea of deducting workers’ salaries as pension is exploitative and fraudulent; workers are being seriously shortchanged with this arrangement. For instance, what a worker gets as pension after retirement is this savings which is divided into pension and gratuity. This is unlike a government guaranteed pension scheme, where a fixed percentage of workers’ salary is given as pension with the possibility of increase. By this policy, what a retiree in the contributory pension scheme will get is just a fraction of what he/she would have collected under the government pension scheme.
Further, the fact is that the future of retirees is bleaker under the contributory pension scheme than under government pension arrangement. For instance, the pension reform act allows pension managers to spend these pension funds for business. This is a sure road to disaster, on the basis of Nigeria’s neo-colonial, bankrupt capitalism. Indeed, the recent collapse of Nigerian banking sector has already put paid to lies that private businesses are more effective and less corrupt. It took government’s commitment of over N2.5 trillion of public funds that could have been used to fund social services, to revive these banks, albeit temporarily.
However, the maddening gambling and crazy quest for quick profits have not stopped either in the banking or any other sector. Effects of the collapse of stock market or banking sector will surely reverberate in the pension administration with lots of defaults in payments of pensioners. Meanwhile by this time, these private profiteers would have gained enough wealth via awarding huge salaries, allowances and bonuses to themselves, as witnessed in the banking crisis.
Already, many contributory pensioners are groaning under unpaid pension arrears by pension fund managers. Furthermore, according to Pencom, the regulatory pension agency, more employers are now defaulting, while others are simply converting workers’ salaries to pension contributions or deducting workers’ salaries by dubious means to pay the employers’ share of contribution.
Governments at all levels are also reported to be defaulting in remitting their contributions even when workers’ contributions are being deducted from source. Meanwhile, the major excuse for forcing this fraudulent pension scheme on workers is for quick payment of pension. Worse still, various governments at all levels are forcing this poisonous pill of contributory pension on workers. In a place like Osun State, the government went to extent of asking workers to join contributory pension or retire compulsory.
Meanwhile, the same government has refused to pay pension of those it forced to retire, while also refusing to remit its share of contributory pension. For many workers, it is a tale of being led to the slaughter slab as they are compelled to stay with the exploitative and dangerous contributory pension scheme.
Workers and pensioners at all levels must mount serious pressure on trade union leadership to lead the campaign and struggle for adequate, promptly-paid, living pension for all retirees. Consequently, a 48-hour strike backed up with mass actions like protests, rallies, media campaign and lobby must be called by labour leadership as a first step in this struggle. Labour movement must reject the contributory pension scheme and demand for a living guaranteed pension scheme for all workers, tied to economic indices (cost of living, inflation, salary increase, etc).
Moreover, labour movement must demand for a democratic management of pension funds, by elected representatives of workers and pensioners at workplaces, localities and up to the national levels. The representatives will have to give regular reports and updates to workers on the state of their pensions while monitoring and supervising pension payments to retirees at all levels. If government can commit public resources to fraudulent contributory pension scheme, there is no reason why it cannot ensure adequate pension for workers.
Labour movement leadership must withdraw its membership from the Pencom board that administers and supervises this swindle of workers called contributory pension. The manner, in which labour leadership botched, at the last minute, the last protest rally in support of pensioners, under the ridiculous excuse that government has promised to look into the issue, is condemnable.
The pension crisis underscores the need for working and oppressed people to build political alternative with clearly socialist programmes that will prioritize democratic public ownership of the economy and our commonwealth, with the aim of deploying them for massive development of the country and its people. Workers, youths, pensioners must demand the building of a mass workers’ political alternative now!

51  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / ASUU STRIKE: NLC Urges FG, ASUU To Resume Negotiation on: 3-09-2013 08:06 PM
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has promised to continue to work hard to ensure that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and Federal Government returned to the negotiating table.
The NLC President, Abdulwaheed Omar, told journalist in Abuja on Tuesday that there was the need to find a lasting solution to incessant strikes in the country to ensure national development.
He called on both government and the striking lecturers to resume negotiations, especially in the interest of the students and for the future of the country.
"We are going to approach them and we are also going to approach federal government to ensure that they resume negotiations.
"If in a given year it puts N100 billion in the budget ASUU would have seen that there is goodwill, government is determined, only that they don’t have sufficient fund to provide the N400 billion. They would have taken it."
While commending health workers for suspending their strike, he said the recent development, where striking lecturers decided to withdraw from negotiations with federal government, was not healthy for the country.
The agreement was due for re-negotiation in 2004 but it didn’t take place until 2007 and lasted more than two years to produce the 2009 agreement, which was freely entered into by ASUU and government.

52  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 'Gay People Are Unbalanced And Having Medical Issue' - Reverend George Gebauer A on: 3-09-2013 08:05 PM
A vicar who refused to name both members of a lesbian couple 'mother' when they baptise their son has launched a vile tirade of abuse against homosegxwals.
Reverand George Gebauer described gay people as being 'unbalanced' and having 'a medical issue'.
His comments came after he told Aimi and Victoria Leggett that it would be 'illegal' for them both to appear as parents on one-year-old Alfie's baptism certificate.
Instead he suggested that one of them signs as the mother while the other member of the civil partnership should be the 'godmother'.
Mr Gebauer said: 'I feel sorry for gay and lesbian people. We know there is something not right within their make-up. They produce too much hormone, they're imbalanced. That's the way they are. It's a medical issue.'
Aimi, 25, and Victoria, 22, stormed out of the meeting at St Mary's Church in Warsash, Hampshire, after Reverend George Gebauer said the church baptism register only had one space for one mother and one father.

55  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / PHOTOS: 1-Yr-Old Shot In Head In Middle Of Street, Bullet Had His Father's Name on: 3-09-2013 04:19 PM
One-year-old Antiq Hennis was shot in the head near the family home in Riverdale Ave and was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, USA.
1-Yr-Old Shot In Head In Middle Of Street, Bullet Had His Father's NameA 1-year-old Brooklyn boy was killed by a bullet "that had his father’s name on it", police sources said.
Antiq Hennis was nestled in his stroller Sunday night, when the shot pierced his head just a block from the family’s Riverdale Ave. home, cops and witnesses said.
The child’s father Anthony Hennis — the intended target, according to law enforcement sources and family members — was unharmed but distraught after the bullets started flying at Bristol St. near Livonia Ave. in Brownsville at 7:20 p.m.
“He was screaming ‘My baby got shot.’ He was going crazy,” said Gina Gamboa, 22, who saw the dad seconds after Antiq was mortally wounded. “The baby was breathing, but his eyes were closed. It’s crazy. They just will start shooting.”
At least four shots rang out. The tragic tot was the only person hit. Little Antiq was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital with a bullet hole in the left side of his head, cops said.
He died at the hospital shortly before 9 p.m. “He just started walking. He was vibrant. He was full of life,” said the baby’s great-uncle, Chris Dobson. “I can’t believe it.” Cops investigate the area where the shooter opened fire on Bristol St.
The relative said that Antiq’s parents, who hail from Trinidad, celebrated their son’s first birthday in May.
He said it was the father, who has a record of more than 20 arrests, who was in the gunman’s crosshairs. “They shot at him and ended up shooting the baby,” Dobson said.
Detectives believe the shooting was payback for an earlier dispute, according to sources.
Another source said the dad dashed away from the stroller to draw the gunfire from his son.
1-Yr-Old Shot In Head In Middle Of Street, Bullet Had His Father's Name
Bishop Willie Billips, a local anti-violence activist, was with the parents as they made the gut-wrenching official identification of their lifeless child.
“I’m furious about what I’ve just seen. I’m outraged,” Billips said. “A 1-year-old baby lying on the bed? It’s horrible.”
There was little solace he could offer to the family, Billips added. “What do you say? It brought me to tears. To see young parents suffer — for what?” Antiq was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests had been made as of late Sunday, police said. But a source in the Brownsville community said the shooter’s street name has been given to cops.
Antiq is the 16th victim under the age of 16 to be shot on city streets since mid-May, and he is the second child to die.The boy’s grieving parents were hunkered down in their home late Sunday. “The family is shocked and devastated,” Councilman Charles Barron said after comforting the bereft couple.
“The child didn’t even get a chance to start his life, and now it’s over.” A woman identifying herself as Antiq’s godmother left the hospital shaken after the boy died. “I saw him, I saw him in there, oh my goodness, oh my God, oh my Lord. He was just a baby, ” she wailed.

57  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Army to Investigate Killing of 26 Vigilante Group Members in Borno on: 3-09-2013 01:54 PM
The Nigerian Army on September 3, 2013, Tuesday, announced that it has commenced investigations into the latest Borno massacre, when lots of activists of the youths’ vigilance group called ‘Civilian JTF’ were killed by suspected Boko Haram members in Monguno.
The Joint Task Force (JTF) spokesman, ‘Operation Restore Order (ORO)’, Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, reported in Maiduguri that the army was disturbed about the situation.
“The military high command is aware of the killing and it is disturbing, the Nigerian Army Brigade in Monguno has been mandated to carry out investigations into the matter,” Lt.-Col. Musa said.
The JTF official blamed the problem on the group which embarked on a trip without military backing.
“We have always made it clear to the vigilantes that they should not operate on their own but should always seek for military backing.
“They are just supporting the security agencies with information; the real battle should be left in the hands of security agents.
“We will continue to appeal to them not to conduct any operation without armed military escort,” Musa said.
The 26 civilians were killed over the weekend in Monguno, Borno State, while in search of Boko Haram insurgents.

The Manchester United striker says that he is motivated by the example of veteran team-mate Ryan Giggs to prolong his career with the Red Devils and Netherlands
The Netherlands international, 30 years old, is confident that next summer's World Cup in Brazil will not be his final major tournament for Oranje.

"We want to do better over there then at the European [Championships]," he told NUSport. "At least, I want that, and after that I want to do it better again. That's how I am.

"The World Cup won't be my last big tournament. I've never had a major injury, hardly any muscle problems. I will play for another 10 years."

The former Arsenal man cites the influence of Manchester United team-mate Ryan Giggs as a source of motivation in prolonging his playing career.

"Yes, serious, that's my goal when I feel myself like I do now," he continued. "It's a drive for me when I see Ryan Giggs train every day fantastic and play fantastic."

60  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Big Brother Africa 2013: the Winner, Dillish, Speaks in Exclusive Interview on: 3-09-2013 01:20 PM
Stunning and beautiful Namibian Dillish has won the latest season of Big Brother Africa TV reality show.
In her recent exclusive interview the Namibian beauty had a lot to say.
Check out the interview below:

How do you feel winning the Big Brother show?
I feel great. Winning the money is a great opportunity. It is a lifetime experience in the house. The money is going to change my life. I am so grateful to Africa and to God. It is a perfect feeling.
Did you ever think you would become the winner?
I didn’t think I would become the winner.  As you know, they said I was the underdog in the house. I didn’t see myself as the winner, but things changed for me, especially the week I was up for eviction alongside Angelo and Bimp. Africa saved me that week and that was when I realised I might have an impact out there.
You were one of the few housemates that didn’t get into any relationship. Why?
I made up my mind I wasn’t going into any relationship. It was the initial plan. Even before I got in, I made it very clear in the introductory video that I have somebody out there who is very special in my life and I wasn’t looking for love. When I walked into the house the first day, I told them I wasn’t interested in any relationship and they shouldn’t try me. I was already in a relationship of four years and I wasn’t going to give it up for anybody in the house.
Now that you have so much money, won’t it affect your relationship?
It will certainly not affect the relationship. My boyfriend is quite successful. The money is basically for me and my family and my future. It shouldn’t affect my relationship at all.
Who was your greatest rival in the house?
All the housemates were my competitors. They were all strong rivals. At the beginning, Bolt got on my nerves, but somehow, we made peace. I got along with everybody. It was easy connecting with them.
Why did you decide to be part of the BBA?
I have always been a fan of the show. I wanted to be a part of it last year, but something stopped me. This year, a friend got the form and filled it for me. I went for the audition and Big Brother chose me. I think it was my time and my destiny this year. I am so happy that I experienced it and won.
What do you hope to achieve in future?
I am ready for anything. I am thinking of getting into radio or TV or anything that has to do with entertainment. I am just taking it step by step. I am ready to start-up my career in entertainment.
Was there a time you felt like leaving the house?
Oh yes. The first time I got nominated was my lowest moment in the house. I got nominated the second week and I thought I should go and ring the bell and tell Big Brother I wanted to go home. But something spoke to me and I decided to stay back.
How easy was it to survive in the house?
It wasn’t easy at all. In the outside world, we are so used to our mobile phones, to the extent that we even sleep with them. I missed my freedom and being able to watch TV.  But in all, it was a good experience.
