Some physically-challenged adults see barriers to their dreams; but this boy in his early teens, sees opportunities. It does not take much to recognise talent. Abegnego Jacob, a 13-year-old Basic Four pupil of the Pacelli School for the Blind in Surulere, Lagos, is a budding talent. While representing his school at a charity performance organised in honour of Tunde Alabi-Hundeyin (CEO of Dudu Productions) who turned 60 a few weeks ago, he unveiled an aspect of him that gives credence to the saying that, ‘some people can see without their eyes’.
Called up to the stage by Yemi Sodimu, the host at the event, the audience obviously never expected more from this child performer. But the moment he got hold of the microphone, he started reeling out jokes, most of them original, in a manner that had several artistes present bewildered. Taking turns, he engaged Gbenga Adeyinka and Segun Arinze in a comic session that only confirmed that he is not new to the game. For instance, when he was alerted on the stage that Segun Arinze was approaching the podium to meet him, he mimicked his (Segun’s) deep baritone, portraying the character that earned Arinze his nickname, Black Arrow, in home videos. Abednego is not yet a professional, but for an amateur he shows a lot of prospects. “I started this in 2008. I have friends in school and we would all sit together telling jokes. But each time I spoke, they would all laugh and from then on, they started asking me to join comedy since I could make people laugh. At first, I did not take it seriously until December 10, 2008, when I got the chance to perform on a real stage. That first experience was what opened me to the possibilities I have in me. I did it very well”. Since he cannot physically see his audience, one would be tempted to wonder if Abednego knows what stage fright is. “I do not feel frightened. That is because what I want to say flows in me. It just runs in me and I say it out. The good thing is that I study my environment to know what to say; I listen to the radio and watch television too. So my ears help me to pick the things going on. Even at shows, I listen to pick comments I could create jokes from”.

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigations into the murder of a 30-year-old car dealer, Uririnke Onojorhoevwo, who was allegedly killed by officials of the Nigerian Customs Service in Iyana Ipaja area of the state. According to the police, the Delta State indigene was shot to death on June 16, 2013, after being pursued by customs men attached to the Federal Operation Unit. Some policemen attached to Gowon Police Division, who witnessed the incident, said after the killing, the customs men fled. A policeman, who craved anonymity, said, “On June 16, around 5am, we saw customs men in a Toyota Hilux van with registration number, CS307A01, chasing a white unregistered Audi Station wagon. The customs men shot the tyre of the vehicle and also shot its driver. “The driver, who was bleeding profusely, came out of the vehicle and attempted to run. One of the customs men alighted from the Hilux, moved close to the car dealer, and shot him again. They did not touch the corpse but entered into their vehicle and fled immediately.” The police source told policemen later recovered the corpse and took it to the station. When asked if the deceased was a smuggler, the policeman said there was no evidence to prove that he was. He said, “After the killing, we began preliminary investigation. We thought he was a smuggler but we decided to search the vehicle. We discovered that all the relevant documents were intact including the customs duty. “We also deduced that the deceased was driving from Idi-Iroko border and was heading towards Lagos.” .com learnt that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for further investigation. A source at the Homicide Department at the SCID, told our correspondent that all attempts to get information from the NCS proved abortive as it did not respond to a letter written to it. The source said, “We wrote a letter to customs two weeks ago. We even made telephone calls to their administration department, but they have not been forthcoming.” The elder brother of the deceased, Bakapo Onojorhoevwo, told PUNCH Metro that the deceased sold vehicles for a living. He said the deceased was based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and was probably heading towards there when he was killed. He said he was pained that his brother was not married and had no children. He said the family would like to know what transpired. He said, “Around 7.30am on that very day, I called my brother’s telephone but a policeman picked it up and told me that my brother was involved in an accident and I should come to Mainland Medical Centre, Yaba. I went there with my younger sister and we were told that my brother had been killed by customs men. “His corpse is still there and we are waiting for autopsy. My brother has been dealing in cars for the past four years. We do not know what actually happened so we want the customs to explain to us.” When contacted on the telephone, Public Relations Officer, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the NCS, Mr. Uche Ejesieme, said investigations were ongoing. A text message he sent to our correspondent read, “We are on top of the situation. Nigeria's Senate on Wednesday was thrown into confusion on Wednesday after a fight broke out between members, at one point it turned physical as Senator Kabir Marafa from Zamfara State gave his colleague, Senator Paulinus Igwe Ebonyi state a powerful upper cute punch... Disappointed Senate President, David Mark, cried out, saying senators had always resolved their differences politely and not through fisticuffs. “We are distinguished senators. We have ways of resolving issues not by boxing. We are elder statesmen; we can do all the talking but we should never resort to boxing. I want to appeal once more that we suspend the debate on this (State of the Nation Bill) for today (Wednesday) if nothing but, because of the way tempers have risen.” The cause of the fight was President Goodluck Jonathan's State of the Nation Address Bill. Some argued that the President had no power under the 1999 Constitution to propose amendments to a bill passed by the National Assembly. But his friends, however, argued that he could. President Jonathan, in his amendment proposals, rejected the section that makes it mandatory for him to present the address before a joint session of the National Assembly on an annual basis. He chose to rely on Section 67 of the Constitution, which makes it optional. He also sought an amendment to allow him delegate the responsibility to the Vice-President, an amendment that the lawmakers rejected

During his sermon, 76-year-old Pastor Jim Standridge of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Skiatook, Okla., begins by calling out a member of the congregation for sleeping while he was preaching.
The pastor then moved on to another man, like hey you “Where have you been? You’re one of the sorriest church members I have! You’re not worth 15 cents.”
This video of Pastor Jim insulting members of his congregation during his sermon has gone viral since it was posted to YouTube on June 24.
Complaining about his pastor behaviour on that faithful day, one of the church member wrote on Facebook: “Things were not done right that morning," he said adding that I was “shocked and hurt.”

Vanity Wonder, author of book “Shots Girls” who herself spent over $15,000 on illegal bútt and hip injections, opened up about her addiction to bútt injections. Vanity, who nearly died after contracting an infection from a shot. Vanity became an internet sensation when she posted pics of her developing booty and all the hardships she faced. She revealed, When I heard about bútt injections I thought it sounded stupid but after a year in that environment as a dancer, everyone was doing it, it wasn’t such a foreign concept. I thought I might as well try it. ’Then it became a competition – not for men but against other women. So many of us were doing it because we wanted to better than the other person.’ ‘It did become addictive but it got infected so I was left with lumps. So I had a choice, I could have a medium-sized lumpy bútt or keep padding it with silicone to make it better. So it wasn’t my goal to get this big but padding it with silicone is how this happened.’ Vanity says she’s speaking out because she doesn’t want other women to get caught in the trap. She claims it’s ok to get bútt implants, but ladies should stay away from bútt injections. She added,
‘Truthfully I would like smaller bútt but I’m happy I didn’t die and still here for my children. I did so much dumb stuff with my body I’m lucky that I’m still living. When I look in the mirror, I think I would like a smaller bútt, it’s hard to go shopping, but I’m just happy I’m still here.’

An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos was on Tuesday told how a big woman, Mrs. Adedoyin Ogunmefun, allegedly married two men at the same time. Mrs Ogunmefun, who was arraigned with her second husband, was also accused of having children for her two husbands...
Mrs Ogunmefun was arraigned before Magistrate B. O. Osunsanmi, over forgery of National Population Commission certificate of birth AO8/NO/0268923 and AO8/NO/0268922 was said to have been married to one Mr. Abraham Okoro, who she had two children for before leaving to have another child for the second husband.
The prosecutor, Mr. Benson Emurih, told the court that the defendants presented the forged certificates to Parthcare Laboratory in Oduduwa Crescent, GRA, Ikeja. He said the offence was punishable under sections 409,363 (3) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
The first husband, Abraham Okoro said he had lived with his estranged wife between for 7 years, adding that the union produced two children, who were born in Nigeria and US respectively.
He further accused the wife of deserting their marriage for Ogunmefun, who she had a daughter for in 2009.
Consequently, Okoro said the accused was told that for her to be accepted back into her matrimonial home, she would perform some traditional rites of cleansing.
He said his wife who came back home in February 2012, moved out again on November 3, 2012, noting that she suddenly wrote him a letter through her lawyer, Taiwo and Taiwo, in December 2012 claiming that the two children she had for him were not his. This is a complicated matter. So, is the father of the two children if not the first husband?

A member of a gang of kidnappers arrested by Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command, on Tuesday, said they used different tricks, including posing as beggars, to distract their potential victims to facilitate their kidnapping for ransom...
The kidnapper, Emeka Agbaji, was nabbed with Emmanuel Omoseni and Michael Edom after abducting two friends, Samsudeen Olatunde and Daramola Bisoye, along Lekki-Epe Expressway, in Ajah.
Emeka Agbaji, a 31-year-old man, said the first step in their modus operandi was to get their potential victim to relax. According to him, the element of surprise always worked in their favour.
He explained that one of them disguised as a beggar on the day they were arrested after kidnapping the two friends.
Agbaji said the victims had parked their vehicle in order to urinate when the ‘beggar’ approached them and started asking for money. He added that the distraction aided the gang to abduct them.
He said, “The victims had alighted from a vehicle along the Lekki-Epe Expressway to urinate. One of our gang members, who disguised as a beggar, asked one of them to give him money. Out of sympathy, the driver gave him N100 and he prostrated in gratitude.
“As the driver wanted to enter the car, he (the beggar) started dragging the door with the driver. In the confusion, we came out with guns and kidnapped them.”
On his part Michael Edom, a commercial bus driver, said he joined the gang because kidnapping was the most lucrative job to do.
“I do two jobs – driving a commercial bus and working as conductor. My routes are Ajah to Lakwe and Ajah to Obalende and CMS. Anytime I did conductor’s work, I used to get N1, 000 and above daily but driving gives me N3, 000 and above daily.
“Sometimes, I sell pure water and I get commission on each bag I sell. It was financial difficulty that made me to join the gang. There was nothing I had not tried to get reasonable money, yet I kept failing. So, I joined the gang of kidnappers.”
.co learnt that he lived in an uncompleted building which also served as a place where their victims were kept.
But Emmanuel Omoseni, who claimed to be a nursery school teacher, said he joined the gang because he was owed two months’salary.
The Ondo State indigene said, “I teach at a nursery and primary school behind General Paint. I had not been paid two months’ salary. So, when my friend, Michael, approached me to join the gang, it was too tempting to reject.
“I ended up not getting a kobo after the botched operation. Although I escaped arrest initially, I was going to school in the morning when policemen arrested me. My only regret is that I did not get a kobo from the job and my wife is in the village with three of my children.”

Chairman of All Bishops in Rivers State, Bishop Chibuike Nwabueze, who was arrested for allegedly molesting a 15-year old girl, was paraded by the state Police Command on Tuesday.
The Bishop confessed to the crime in the presence of journalists but claimed that: He was hypnotised, adding that he was set up by the pastor of the church where the incident occurred as it seems some of those interested in his position don't like him.
gathered that Bishop Nwabueze claimed that it was not rape but just sex that happened so fast. He claimed she removed her clothes after he finished praying for her in the office and before he could shout ‘the blood of Jesus,’ he was already on top of the girl, having sex with her.
The Bishop insisted that he was set up by his fellow Bishop, who are contesting for the post of Chairman of All Bishops in the state with him.
Nwabueze, who was paraded at the Rivers State Criminal Investigation department, SCID, Port Harcourt, said anybody could have fallen a victim of what happened to him.
He described as untrue, allegation that he made the girl abort a pregnancy from the incident. According to him, it was the girl’s father that did it but he took care of the bill.
He said: “We have different Colleges of Bishops. I am the Chairman of Communion of Bishops in Rivers State. Well, what actually happened was a set up. It was set-up by my enemies. The man who is in-charge of where I went to minister is my enemy. He is the person that set me up.
“He invited me to his church for a programme and after the programme, he set me up because of what we are dragging. We are dragging the chairmanship of the communion and that was why he set me up.
"To my greatest surprise, on the said day and after I had prayed for her, the girl started pulling off her clothes and before you knew it, I had carnal knowledge of her.”

How Unilag Students Died Celebrating Their Colleague's Engagement Iyabo a Unilag student recently got engaged and her friends decided to celebrate with her. An engagement party was held off campus for Iyabo and her fiance. Everything went fine at the party and when they were done, Iyabo, her cousin Funmi, Eniola Abiodun and a friend, Temiloluwa decided to go back to their campus.
Her fiance's younger brother offered to drop them in school. On their way back to school, they had a fatal accident when a trailer hit their car on International Airport road. Her fiance's younger brother, her cousin Funmilayo and Eniola died instantly. Iyabo and Temiloluwa survived but are presently receiving treatment at Lasuth.

Less than two months after four members of Ibadan Foodstuff Sellers Association were killed by gunmen in Borno State, another set of traders, number about 10, were allegedly killed by gunmen said to be members of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram...
Consequently, the president of the association, Alhaji Musliudeen Olalekan Azeez, has called on the Federal Government to save their members from incessant attacks and untimely deaths.
Azeez, speaking with journalists at the Bodija Market, on Monday, said they learnt that their members, 10 of them, were among the over 60 people killed by people suspected to be Boko Haram members.
Eight of those allegedly killed were said to be traders at Bodija Market, while two others were from Orita-merin Market, also in Ibadan.
Confirming the report, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the market, Mr Akeem Emiola, said the sad news was relayed to them on Friday through a telephone conversation by one of their customers, adding that “since then, we have been making contact with the families of the deceased.”
