How will you feel if you suddenly discover that the driver of the bus you have boarded is blind? In Lagos, it has been discovered that a large percentage of drivers, both private and public are suffering from different degrees of eye defects that have made them to be partially blind.

According to the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute LASDRI, which has trained about 65,000 drivers since August 2009, about 22 per cent of the trained drivers or 14,300 were discovered to be partially blind.

The law establishing the institute came into being in 2007 but LASDRI commenced operation on August 25h, 2009, with the sole aim of ensuring improved road safety culture on the roads.

Mr. Ayodeji Oyedokun, is the Chief Executive Officer CEO, LASDRI, while speaking with Vanguard on the activities of the institution for over four years, stated: “We are all aware of the fact that there are so many drivers with drivers’ license who never had any formal training in driving technology. We are aware of the fact that makes people to rush for driver’s license, which is mainly for an identification document.

“What we are saying in essence, is that there are so many people driving out there that are not supposed to owe drivers license because they did not pass through any formal training. This had led to a lot of carnages on the highway, traffic snarl and jam, with resultant effect of gaseous emission into the atmosphere, which ultimately leads to health hazards, and loss of man hours, because they do not know the rules guiding the use of highway.

 “In the highway transportation system, there are three main factors that interplay; the human being which is the driver, the environment-road and the vehicle, it is the human factor that is key to the severity or fatality of road crashes. Therefore, it is the human being that needs to be worked on in terms of competence, fitness, mental alertness, level of eye sight, because driving is about seeing and being seen, hence, the government decided to set up LASDRI.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested two young men who claimed to be undergraduates of the University of Jos, Isaiah Friday and Azzaior Samuel, for an alleged N2.05bn fraud gistdoctor.com

Two bureau de change operators, Salihu Mahmoud and Dan Ibrahim, were also arrested in connection with the alleged crime.

The suspects were also accused of being members of a syndicate that specialised in breaking into the computer data base of financial institutions to carry out dry posting of funds.

The Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said the suspects were arrested in Lagos and Jos.

He said, “Their arrest comes on the heels of a petition which the commission received from Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Marina, Lagos, in January 2013, alleging that a criminal attack had been launched on its data base known as ‘Flexcube’, by yet-to-be-identified criminals who falsified the bank records and accounts and created unjustified huge opening balances in several accounts across the bank’s branches. They subsequently transferred funds from those accounts to several accounts in other banks.

“The petition, which was signed by one A.F Olufade, Head of Fraud Investigation at the bank, said cash withdrawals and electronic transfers totalling N2.05bn was involved in the scam.”

It was learnt that EFCC initial investigation showed that Friday, who was carrying out computer system maintenance services for one of the Union Bank branches in Jos, Plateau State, on a part-time basis, paved the way for the fraudsters to penetrate the bank’s database.

Uwujaren said, “Friday was traced and arrested. His arrest led to the arrest of Azaaior Samuel.

“Investigations further revealed that Samuel introduced Friday to Mahmoud, who is the mastermind of the fraud with others now at large.

“Mahmoud and other collaborators told Friday that they needed access to the bank’s database in order to carry out some postings. They promised to give Friday N.5m if the deal succeeded.”

It was gathered that Friday agreed. On the day the crime was committed, he told people at the bank that Samuel was his colleague who had accompanied him to work.

It was learnt that after the gang had succeeded in gaining access to the bank’s premises, it carried out the postings to six different company accounts domiciled in Union Bank’s Marina branch in Lagos.

A 65-year-old sales representative, Mr. Omole Adeyemi, has been taken before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N3, 200,000 from his employers, Ridge Crest Nigeria Limited.

Adeyemi, who was arraigned on two counts of stealing, was said to have committed the crime at the Ajao Estate area of Lagos.

The police told the court that the defendant used his position as the sales representative to divert funds meant for the company into his private account.

He allegedly stole the sum over a period of nine months before he was caught in June 2013 when the company audited its account.

His appointment was subsequently terminated after the theft was uncovered.

The charges read, “That you, Omole Sunday Adeyemi, and others at large, between October 2012 and June 30, 2013, at Ajao Estate, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: stealing.

“That you, Omole Sunday Adeyemi and others at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district, while in the employ of Rudge Crest Nigeria Limited as a sales representative, did dishonestly steal the sum of N3,200,000, property of Ridge Crest Nigeria Limited.”

The prosecutor, Mr. Frank Inah, said the offences were punishable under Sections 409 and 285(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

Adeyemi said he was not guilty of the charges.

There was a drama in Agege Grade ‘A’ Customary Court when a 29-year-old Nollywood actress, Mrs. Enitan Ogunkeye, who filed for divorce against her husband, Mr. Adekunle Ogunkeye, accused him of dubious behaviour, constant beating and drunkenness.

The couple exchanged  harsh words over their drinking habit.

"My husband drinks a lot and, anytime he drinks, he misbehaves. He  has lost respect and reduced in size due to his drinking habit. He has been disgraced many times in public because of his drinking habit”, Enitan said.

She told the court that she could  no longer live with the husband because they fight over  money frequently.

Meanwhile, the 43-year old  husband, a  civil servant, said: “I agree that I am a drunkard but  we are birds of  a  feather because we both drink.”

Adekunle told the court that  the N50,000 he collected from his wife was spent on their son’s birthday for which his wife told him some artistes  would be around but  nobody came while  all the things she bought were wasted.

"My wife is a wasteful spender. As an actress, she sees herself as a celebrity despite the fact that she is not well known in Nollywood,” he said.

The court president, Mr Emmanuel Shokunle, ordered both parties to maintain peace and adjourned the case to Sept.19 for further hearing.

A woman has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery when she attacked a man she had sex with.

Police reveal that Angela Dawn Specker received $100 in exchange for the sex, and when she ran into the client the next day, she slashed him with a knifeThe victim says he was walking out of a liquor store when Specker showed up. She reportedly pulled out a knife and cut his forearm before telling him, "perfect timing."

When interviews, Specker told the investigators that she cut the man because she didn't like the way he treated her the night before. She claimed the victim slapped her and pulled her hair during sex. When he was "finished," he threw $100 at her and left, she claimed.

The man was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery.

Think only your dad should be paying attention to those erectile dysfunction (ED) commercials? Turns out younger guys should, too, according to a new study.

In a recent study, researchers found that 26 percent of 439 men seeking help for ED during a two-and-a-half year period were younger than 40—and nearly half of these men had severe cases and problems with premature ********.

The twist: Younger guys didn’t have the normal characteristics of men searching for help with their manhood—they had a lower average body mass index (25.1 BMI), a higher average level of testosterone in their blood, and a lower rate of other medical conditions, like hypertension, that often lead to ED.

So what’s making them go limp? One culprit could be cigarette and illicit drug use—younger men smoked or used illegal drugs like pot or cocaine more frequently. And just like high blood pressure, activities such as smoking restrict your blood vessels and can choke off blood flow to the penis.

If you’re a young person with ED, very often the single best thing you can do is stop smoking. In fact, one small 2011 study found that men who quit cigarettes after an 8-week cessation period had stronger, firmer erections at the conclusion of the study.

A New Yorker who fascinated doctors because he was resistant to H.I.V. and AIDS has committed suicide, aged 66.

Stephen Crohn was dubbed 'The Man Who Can't Catch AIDS' by The Independent in 1996 after his boyfriend and scores of his friends passed away from the disease but he remained healthy.

Bravely, he volunteered to have his white blood cells exposed to H.I.V. but doctors were unable to infect him - even at concentrations thousands of times stronger than anything that would occur outside a test tube.

But on August 23, he committed suicide, his sister Amy Crohn Santagata said on Friday.

'My brother saw all his friends around him dying, and he didn't die,' Ms Santagata said.

'He went through a tremendous amount of survivor guilt about that and said to himself, "There's got to be a reason."'

She added: 'He was quite extraordinary, and then also quite ordinary.'

Mr Crohn's boyfriend, Jerry Green, a handsome gymnast, was among the first people to die of AIDS in 1982 after contracting the disease in 1978.

Mr Crohn cared for him as he lost 30 pounds, went blind and was eaten away by the mystery illness.

In the years that followed, scores of the couple's friends died of AIDS but he never got ill, despite being as segxwally active as them all and not taking any special precautions.

When he realized he was different, he volunteered to work with doctors to find out why.

'I couldn't infect the CD4 cells,' Dr Bill Paxton, who the worked at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center in New York, said. 'I'd never seen that before.'

Years later, researchers isolated the reason. H.I.V. gets into the white blood cells by fitting into two receptors but Mr Crohn's second receptor was flawed due to a genetic defect.

The anomaly, found in less that 1 per cent of the population, saved Mr Crohn's life.

'What he contributed to medical knowledge is really quite extraordinary,' Dr Bruce D. Walker, the director of the Ragon Institute of Massachusetts General Hospital, M.I.T. and Harvard, told The Times.

The research based on Mr Crohn's defective blood cells has led to a drug, maraviroc, that blocks the CCR5 receptor, keeping infection from spreading once patients have caught H.I.V.

According to The Times, an AIDS patient was effectively cured in 2006 after receiving a bone marrow transplant from a donor who had the same mutation.

Mr Crohn was a prolific painter, sculpture and editor and also worked as a social worker in New York. He had recently moved out of Manhattan where he had a studio for many years to Malden-on-Hudson in upstate New York.

In addition to Ms Santagata, Mr Crohn is survived by two other sisters, Carla Crohn Friedman and Judith Bloom, and their children whom he loved.

'My brother was, at times, my best friend,' Ms Santagata wrote on her blog in a memorial to Mr Crohn, adding that he had become depressed in the past decade.

'Although 14 years older than me, he was ever-present, it seemed, and could always make me laugh and we shared a similar sense of wicked humor. We were partners in practical jokes and he was wonderful with my children until the dark clouds overcame him sometime at the turn of the 21st century, a milestone for all us baby boomers.'

A policeman is to spend 15 months in jail for having sex with a victim of domestic violence while on duty.

According to reports, 31-year-old Jordan Powell would go to this woman’s home in the middle of the night while he was on duty to have sex with her.

The married father of two was arrested when his own force became suspicious and set a trap using an undercover female officer.

The officer, known only as Roxy, pretended to be a victim of domestic violence and rang police in June last year for assistance.

Powell was dispatched to her home - fitted with covert recording equipment - to investigate her complaint.

Within a couple of hours of leaving Roxy’s home in Kidderminster, Powell had sent her flirtatious text messages from his personal mobile phone, the court heard.

Powell sent text messages containing kisses and flirtatious comments, asking whether Roxy had a 'smile on that pretty face'.

It was also revealed that that in May last year Powell attended the home of a woman who was making a complaint about a breach of a non-molestation order by her husband.

Over the following days he sent her a string of suggestive text messages from his personal mobile phone.

Six days after Powell had first taken her statement, they slept together for the first time.

Powell sent the woman one text, which read: 'Let me come round now. Got 15 minutes. You want me inside you now.'

She replied: 'You are so naughty. On duty as well.'

Powell, of Tipton, West Midlands, pleaded guilty to three charges of misconduct in a public office between May and July 2012.

Accused Begs Judge to Jail Him Due to Failed Marriage AffairMr. Adesokan Ifeoluwa, a university graduate who allegedly took N1.4 million from his lover, a middle aged woman, Amusa Taiwo, with a promise to marry her, but dumped her and used the money to marry another woman, has pleaded with a judge to send him to prison gistdoctor.com has learnt.

35-year-old Ifeoluwa is facing a three-count charge of felony, obtaining under false pretence and stealing before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting Ejigbo.

He broke down in tears after he learnt that his wife identified as Kemi, whom he used the money to marry, had equally left him.

The suspect also changed his earlier plea of not guilty to guilty and asked the court to jail him when this realisation dawned on him.

Ifeoluwa said he preferred to be in prison since Kemi has also left him because of his predicament which started nine months ago. However, he could not secure the sentence after the prosecutor, Mr. Adeleye Oluwafemi, presented the facts and sentence.

He objected to some of the facts presented before the court.

While Ifeoluwa was facing trial at the court, another woman complainant appeared and told the court that she suffered a similar fate in the hands of Ifeoluwa and the matter was still at court three, Otta Magistrate’s Court, Ogun State, where he allegedly jumped bail.

The complaint urged the court to order his re-arrest for him to come to Otta to face his trial.

Narrating what happened Ifeoluwa said Taiwo was his lover before they parted ways.

The defendant admitted before the court that Taiwo was his lover and he wanted to marry her but things went wrong along the line and the marriage plans did not work out.

He said he actually collected the money from her and did not steal it as she alleged, adding that she was angry because the marriage plans failed.

He also admitted that he had another woman he wanted to marry before he met Taiwo and said the money assisted him to settle down with the other woman and promised to pay her back.

Taiwo, who was still shocked about what happened, alleged that he collected all the money from her under false pretence to execute a contract and raise more money for their marriage.

She said after he collected the money, he bolted away.

On how she met Ifeoluwa, she said she met him at the Winners Chapel church in Ogun State.

The court, however, granted him bail in the sum of N700,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was subsequently remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will meet the bail conditions.

When the matter came up after several adjournments, Ifeoluwa changed his plea hoping he would be sentenced, but was disappointed as his counsel asked the court to take plea of not guilty.

 Man Writes Initials On GF's Private Part....Says 'Her honeypot Belongs To Me'

A man has been arrested last week for branding his initials on his girlfriend’s private part. 49-year old Christopher Jackson from Arizona, allegedly used a branding tool and a butane torch to burn the initials “CJ” onto his girlfriend's honeypot after drugging her. She awoke feeling pains in her honeypot, but Jackson felt he has done no wrong.

She told the Police, that Jackson bragged that he has done it to his girlfriends in the past, and he did it to her because her honeypot belongs to him. The incident happened in May but she was too scared to report to the Police until last week. Police searched Jackson’s home and allegedly found his butane torch and brand. He was booked into jail on a charge of aggravated assault with serious physical injury.
