5401  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / How My Ex-Employee & Others Kidnapped Me- Billionaire Godwin Okeke on: 12-11-2013 07:49 AM

The Chairman of G. U. O. Motors Limited, Chief Godwin Okeke, yesterday, commenced his evidence-in-chief at an Onitsha High Court in Anambra State, presided over by Justice Chudi Nwankwo, in respect of his abduction by kidnappers in Onitsha on Sunday, August 23, 2009.

Okeke who spoke under oath, shortly after the court granted a motion to file and serve additional prove of evidence with respect to one of the suspected kidnappers, Alexander Onyinanya, filed by the prosecution counsel, Chris Ajugwe with Mrs. N. D. Wilcox.

He narrated his encounter with the kidnappers at the All Saints Anglican Church Cathedral, Onitsha when he went for a Sunday worship with his wife, driver and some family members.

However, counsel to the first and third accused persons, O. U. Uduma and J. N. Okongwu, did not object to the prosecution counsel’s motion to file and serve additional prove of evidence with respect to the third accused, Onyinanya.

How he was abducted

Led in the evidence by his counsel, Okeke stated that he went for 7 a.m. service which ended at about 10 a.m, adding that between 10.30 and 11 a.m., his wife mounted the steering of his Nissan Amanda Spots Utility Van, SUV, and was driving towards the church gate when suddenly, gunmen blocked the car with a bus in front and a Mercedes Benz car at the rear.

Okeke told the court that before he could ask questions, the gunmen started shooting sporadically, adding that even though he managed to disarm one or two of them, they shattered his left leg, over-powered him, drove away his wife and family members before bundling him into his SUV and  zoomed off with the abductors’ vehicles following.

He further told the court that they passed through Awka Road and at Limca Road, they met a traffic gridlock but his abductors shot sporadically into the air to scare the commuters before they continued their movement up to Nkpor junction where he said they met some policemen and exchanged fire with them.

Two vehicles snatched

He said: “At Umuoji Road, my abductors discovered that their tyres were deflated during the exchange of fire with the policemen and they quickly jumped out of the vehicles, blocked the road, snatched two other vehicles from their unsuspecting owners and transferred their arms and ammunition, including 9 AK 47 riffles, rocket launchers, machine guns and a big Ghana-must-go bag filled with loaded magazines and live cartridges into the snatched vehicles.

“They continued their journey and drove through Alor, Adazi-Ani and Adazi-Enu. On getting to somewhere between Adazi-Enu and Neni communities in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state, they drove into a bungalow, rounded up the occupants, who were mainly children, locked them up in one of the rooms and kept me inside the living room.

“I  removed my shirt and tied my bleeding leg as part of measures to control the blood gushing out from the bullet wound. At a stage, I became thirsty and requested them to give me water to drink. Two of the abductors, Emeka Eze and Anthony Ifeanyi Okafor were with me while others were outside monitoring movements.”

He said the duo with him advised him not to drink water because of his bullet wound but he insisted on drinking and eventually they gave him the water which he drank.

He said: “I overheard those outside asking the detained children where they kept oil, salt and other condiments because at that point, they had started cooking breadfruit meal for lunch.

The third accused was my ex-employee.

He said after cooking, they presented the food and he ate with them. He said among those outside, two of them,  a tall and  short one wore masks, adding that he could discover that the tall one, Alexander Onyinanya, the third accused with mask was his former employee.

“I could identify Onyinanya because he limps as a result of an accident he had when he was working for me. I was the one who paid his hospital bill when he had the accident.

I offered them N1bn, instead of N100m

“After eating the breadfruit meal, they praised me for my courage and for accepting their food, unlike other victims who usually refuse to eat during their captivity.”

He said they now asked him to get ready for negotiation to which he paid attention.

“They  told me that Chief Paul Okonkwor, Managing Director of Pokobros Group West Africa Limited paid them N70 million as ransom when they kidnapped him, while Chief Anthony Enukeme, Managing Director of Tonimas Oil Limited paid them N80 million during his own time and told me to pay them N100 million.

“I  replied them promptly that Okonkwor and Enukeme are millionaires, while I am a billionaire, and offered them N1 billion, instead of N100 million.

“The offer gave them special joy as they now dropped their weapons by the side, relaxed and asked me how and when the money would get to them to which I told them that the money was in the bank.”

At this stage, Justice Nwankwo ordered him to stop for the day till the next adjourned date.

The court now adjourned the matter to November 14, 26, 27, 28, December 2, 3, 4, 5 and 9, this year for accelerated hearing and possible dispensation.

Filmed in New York, the video tells the story of a girl who is madly in love with a hot famous actor who repeatedly sidelines her for his career.

The song needs some time to grow on me but I loved the video, the ending had me screaming “OH NO SHE DIDN’T!!!”

Can’t sing to save my life but this single would be banger!

Dumelo featuring Sarkodie,” John admittedly said on BlackBerry to announce the upcoming new music.

John is currently in the USA, according to reports. He was last on Leila Djansi’s set with actress and TV host Joselyn Dumas.

When the new music is released, John can clearly be classified among the league of Ghanaian celebrities who believe in exploring other areas of the creative arts.

5407  Forum / The Buzz Central / Do You Know That Upcoming Actors In Nigeria Now Pay To Feature In Movies? on: 11-11-2013 03:55 PM

I know it sounds unbelievable, but it's fact! A-list Nollywood actors & actresses get paid for featuring in movies, but if you're an unknown actor struggling to get into the movie industry, some movie producers make you pay to feature in their movies. That's the new trend now. I'm sure some Nollywood practitioners will come here to deny this but y'all know it's true. And if you don't know this already, you guys need to start investigating this.

If you're looking to feature in a movie, all you need to do is pay a fee, no audition is required. For minor roles, these producers demand anything from N50k to N100k...it all depends on the role they are giving you. If you want to play a lead role it's between N500k to N1million. Waka pass people are even made to pay.

The trick some of these producers use is this; they say they are not making money from these movies because people aren't buying them so can't invest all their money in it. They also say finding financiers to pay for the production of a movie is hard, so for these movies to see the light of day, every cast member has to contribute. Thing is, many are eager to pay. Several people told me that it's the girls they refer to as 'runz girls' looking for popularity that started this trend. They would offer movie producers money to feature in their movie so they can refer to themselves as actresses and now it's become a part of Nollywood.

But let me state here that there are some movie producers who don't do this...not all of them demand for money. But a lot of them do. Is that OK? What's your thought on this new trend?

5413  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Miss World Africa Naa Okailey Escapes Accident… on: 11-11-2013 11:32 AM

Call it divine intervention or whatever you wish but Miss World Africa 2013 Caranzer Naa Okailey Shooter calls her missed trip to Haiti last week, together with other Miss World beauty queens, as a blessing in disguise and she can’t be grateful enough to God for that act of grace.

Ms Shooter, who finished third at the recently held Miss World Pageant 2013, was scheduled to travel to Haiti as part of a programme for the Miss World winning team.

She, however, reluctantly opted out to write an exam. Little did she know that the decision would spare her the ordeal of being trapped in a collapsed building.

The official website of Miss World Organisation has reported that the current Miss World, Meagan Young, 23, and Julia Morley,74, Chairperson of the Miss World pageant were involved in an accident when a delegation from the Miss World organisation visited an orphanage in Port Au Prince, Haiti as part of their humanitarian commitments.

While on their rounds, the dilapidated building of the orphanage collapsed and the Miss World entourage were trapped.

Fortunately, Ms Young suffered minor injuries with only cuts and bruises. Julia Morley, however, suffered a major fracture on her hip and was immediately rushed to Miami in the United States for surgery. A pupil named only as Jonathan was also injured but was treated in a local hospital.

In a chat with Showbiz last Saturday, Ms Shooter described herself as lucky to have missed that trip.

“I don’t know how Ghanaians and my family would have taken the news if I had been involved in that accident. I’m grateful to God that no lives were lost.

5414  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Enugu Gov. Sullivan Chime Finally Throws Wife Out Of Government House on: 11-11-2013 11:30 AM

These are indeed not the best of times for Governor Sullivan Chime and his second wife, Clara, who is said to be having "serious" medical challenge. Their crises assumed a new dimension on Sunday as Governor Chime with the assistance of security operatives, sent his wife from the Enugu State Government House.

Mrs. Chime’s personal effects were packed for her by the governor and his security detail, and she was forcibly taken out of the Government House in broad daylight.
Mrs. Chime, who struggled to depart with her four-year-old son, was bundled into a convoy of six cars and taken to her mother’s residence at House 38, Coal City Estate, Enugu.

However, on getting there, the mother who had not been notified that her daughter was being brought home, was not around. This forced Mrs. Chime and the security operatives to sit in their cars waiting for her mother to return for several hours.

Soon, the news spread round town and journalists rushed to Clara mother's residence to cover the incident live. Consequently, Governor Chime ordered that his wife be brought back to Government House.

Sources say he intends to send her back to her mother on Monday.

The governor was said to have taken the sad action to drive his wife away because she petitioned him before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) over her confinement against her wish.
5415  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Amaechi To Host Best Of Nollywood Awards Pre-Event Dinner Next Sunday on: 11-11-2013 11:19 AM

Come Sunday, November 17th, the Rivers State Government would pull all the stops as it hosts the nominees of this year’s Best of Nollywood Awards to a special dinner in the state capital, Port Harcourt. According to the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Nnabuihe Nabbs Imegwu, “We are hosting this year’s BON nominees’ dinner because of our belief in their art and their industry; we believe that they represent the finest breed of Nollywood talents and we want to treat them to our pristine and preeminent hospitality in Rivers State.”

Dr. Imegwu further said that the Governor Rotimi Amaechi administration is acutely aware of the fact that the entertainment industry, especially Nollywood, is a major component of tourism, which the state government is committed to promoting for the advancement of its economy. “We have identified the tourism products that would assist us in driving and expanding the economic space in Rivers State, and Nollywood is a key part of that,” said the Commissioner.

The executive producer of BON, Seun Oloketuyi, says the Rivers State Government’s acceptance to sponsor the nominees’ dinner is a further testament of how far BON has come in the last five years. “When we started preparations for this year’s edition, we promised ourselves that being our fifth anniversary, we would not do things the same way we had been doing them since inception which was why we came up with some novel activities like the Talent Meets Class which had Professor Pat Utomi as special guest and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji, as host. We are delighted that the governor of the good people of Rivers State, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, has also identified with BON and we are optimistic of a beautiful time in Port Harcourt on Sunday.”

5417  Forum / The Buzz Central / Brymo vs Chocolate City. Both Parties Deadlocked, In Court Today on: 11-11-2013 10:29 AM

The Brymo vs Chocolate City War Is Far From Over. Both Parties Deadlocked, In Court Today

You may have heard that Brymo left record label Chocolate City in May, while still under contract.

A few weeks ago he released an album with his new team, but by law he is still a Chocolate City artiste, thus the album is technically theirs & he is in breach of his contract, so Chocolate City hit him with a lawsuit, and he went on a twitter rant.

Since then both sides have been in talks, but last night Brymo’s team released a statement which basically said accusing Chocolate City of Bad Faith.

Read it below

“On the 30th of October 2013, a meeting was held between Brymo, his Management and representatives of Chocolate City at the Chocolate City office.

This was one of many prior attempts at reaching a mutually acceptable resolution of the conflict between the Artiste and the Record Label.

After deliberations at the meeting, certain terms were agreed between the parties and Chocolate City promised to capture the terms in an agreement to be signed by both parties.

A few days later, Chocolate City sent in a plan with terms which were not reflective of the deliberations and agreements at the said meeting. A similar occurrence had taken place in June when lawyers representing Chocolate City promised to hand Brymo a Statement of Release from the label on the condition that he would give up his album to the label.

The artiste had insisted that Chocolate City has no right to the work as he still possessed the rights to the work and the lawyers had failed to provide the release even after Brymo agreed to give up the said album.

Please note that the artiste’s initial decision to release his work/ earnings was done in good faith and with a desire to reach an amicable settlement. It is becoming apparent that Chocolate City is not acting in the same spirit of good faith.

The artiste elected to sever relationships with Chocolate City in May 2013 when Chocolate City consistently failed to fulfill its obligations under the contract. And rather than resolve amicably, the label is devising strategies to ensure that the Artiste remains unproductive.

Brymo asserts that under the circumstances of the creation, nature, execution and implementation of his contract with Chocolate City, he is well within his rights as an Artiste and if no amicable resolution is reached, will be willing to defend same under the provision of the Law.”

Brymo is an amazingly talented artiste & I feel really sorry for him, but sentiments aside artistes in Nigeria need to understand that a contract is binding. You can’t just have disregard for the law by walking out on a contact…there are consequences to this.

I hope Brymo has a good lawyer cos Chocolate City look like they could win this.

Both parties are due in court today.
