|  Here is a beautiful extract from Chapter Six of President Goodluck Jonathan's authorized biography, Wind Of Hope. This extract reveals how President Jonathan met the first lady, how they started dating and eventually got married. "As Goodluck Jonathan embarked on a new and challenging career in politics, he was supported and strengthened by his partnership with his wife Patience. Her parents were determined that their daughter would obtain the best education possible. This decision on their part was responsible for Patience meeting her future husband at the College of Education. He was in fact one of her lecturers in the Department of Biological Sciences. After concluding his M.Sc. programme, he focused on his job as a lecturer at the College of Education, Rumuolumeni, while preparing for his Doctorate. At that time, he taught students reading for the Nigerian Certificate of Education(NCE) and the B.Ed. Degree. Many young ladies were among his students. One of them was the light-skinned young woman from Okrika named Patience Oba. He found out that her native name Ebifaka, shortened to "Faka", was similar to that of his loyal and efficient field assistant, Faka, who brought him crab specimens from Okrika for his M.Sc. thesis. Although he had been particularly circumspect in his attitude towards the issue of developing relationships with students in the past, he began to take notice of this young lady in his class. Remembering their first encounters Patience asserts that as her lecturer he first showed an interest in her because she was conscientious in her academic work. It never crossed her mind that it would lead to a serious relationship even though she noticed his good looks. "My first impression of him was of a tall, dark, handsome young man. I also found out that he came from a good Christian home, just like I did. His humble and gentle disposition caught my attention and most importantly, his intelligence,"she narrated. He approached her on campus one day while visiting from study leave for his Doctorate and she responded positively to his suggestion that they be friends. Goodluck and Patience embarked on a period of courtship, with both families giving their firm consent. The union between Goodluck and Patience, including their courtship, has lasted for more than two decades. They finally formalised the union at the marriage registry in Yenagoa with his close friend, King A.J. Turner, as witness after Goodluck had become deputy governor. The family has been blessed with children. Jonathan also took charge of the education and upbringing of Faith the daughter of the late Engr. Ukalizibe Sakwe from Yenagoa LGA who had been the Secretary of the state PDP chapter after her father died in a road accident in 2000. He treats her as his own daughter along with his three other children who are; his son Arewera Adolphus,and his two daughters Aruabai, and Abayola. While his marriage to Patience has weathered both domestic and political storms she says, "Both of us are from Christian homes, and our complete trust is in Jesus Christ. |  The General Overseer, Christ Citizen Glorious Assembly Church in Lagos, Pastor Ikechukwu Ezeiru has been arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court for selling the church building and landed property located in Lagos and escaping with all the money realized from the illegal act. The same Pastor Ezeiru had earlier been brought before the same court for defrauding member of his church identified as Ifeanyi Ohazurume of N7m. Giving evidence in the latest case, Police said: 43yrs old Pastor Ezeiru sold the church building and land on Plots 9A and 9B, Family Estate, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos, after which he absconded with the proceeds of the sale. The church trustees – Ifeanyi Ohazurume, Stella Johnson, George Ndubuisi and Ozuruonye Onwuka – reported the matter to the police and a manhunt was launched for the pastor since March 2013. He was caught in later April, 2014, and arraigned on three counts of fraudulent sale of property and stealing. Pastor Ezeiru was said to have sold the church building for N7.5m, while the land was sold for N5m. The charges read in part, “That you, Pastor Ikechukwu Ezeiru, and others at large, being the General Overseer of a church known as Christ Citizen Glorious Assembly Church, Plots 9A and 9B, Family Estate, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos, in the month of March 2013, in the Lagos Magisterial District with intent to defraud, did sell church building and land, property of Christ Citizen Glorious Assembly, represented by the trustees, Ifeanyi Ohazurume, Stella Johnson, George Ndubuisi and Ozuruonye Onwuka. “That you being the General Overseer of a church known as Christ Citizen Glorious Assembly Church, Plots 9A and 9B, Family Estate Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos, did steal the sum of N7,500,000, property of the church….” Police prosecutors said the offences were punishable under sections 409, 324, 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011. But Pastor Ezeiru pleaded not guilty. Chief Magistrate Mrs. A.A. Demi-Ajayi, granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum. |  An apparently embarrassed Nigerian military on Thursday backtracked on its claim that it freed majority of the 129 female students of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, who were abducted at about 10pm on Monday night by Boko Haram members. Spokesperson of the Defence Headquarters, Chris Olukolade, had claimed that 107 of the girls were freed in addition to the 14 that escaped from their abductors. Olukolade claimed that following the rescue, only eight of the girls were still held captive by the insurgents. But shortly the Army's statement, the principal of the school, Asabe Kwambura, said the claims were untrue and that majority of the girls are still with their kidnappers. Following the revelations, the Military has admitted that they lied. Hear what they have to say below: “In the light of the denial by the principal of the school, the Defence Headquarters wishes to defer to the school principal and Governor’s statement on the number of students still missing and retract that aspect of earlier statement while the search continues. “There was no reason to doubt this official channel, hence the information was released to the public immediately,” Mr. Olukolade explained. “Surprisingly however, the school principal, one of the sources quoted in the report has denied all that was attributed to her for whatever reasons. This is an unfortunate development indeed, yet the Defence Headquarters would not want to join issues with anyone. “It has to be reaffirmed however, that the report forwarded to the public on this issue was in good faith and not intended to deceive the public as is being interpreted following the denials by the School principal and Government of Borno State. “Like all other citizens, the military is deeply concerned to ensure that the students are safe and freed alive. |  Arik Airline has given passengers on flight WT3107 from Lagos to JFK a 50% discount off the prevailing rate for their chosen class of travel over the inhuman treatment on the delayed New York bound on March 31. |  The Nigerian Government has released a list of names and contacts of 126 persons receiving treatment in various hospitals after a powerful explosion occurred in Nyanya, Abuja, on the morning of April 14, Monday. The authorities report that over 75 people were killed in the blast at the crowded bus park in Abuja's suburb. The list was made public by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). Some of the victims may have already been discharged. The FG had earlier given approval for hospital authorities to release the remains to the families. |   Emmanuel Kalejaiye, the 21 year old Nigerian young man, who learned to walk in heels as part of his plans to kill his own mother, Tolu Kalejaiye, in September 2013, (read here) has been found guilty of manslaughter by a court in England. According to the jury, Kalejaiye could not be found guilty of murder because to his mental state. The Essex University undergraduate last year stabbed his 41 year old mother (pictured right) 40 times in her head, face, neck, upper limbs and hands during a frenzied knife attack. His mother until her death was an accountant with the Camden Council in England. Continue... In his confessional statement, Emmanuel admitted to killing his mother saying she was driving him crazy with her religious stance and was using it to manipulate him. "I admit killing my mother by stabbing her. I did this because she subjected me to a lifetime of physical and mental abuse. She used the Bible to rationalize what she did to me. I believe she manipulated and brainwashed me. I have been very depressed for a long time. I have tried to overcome it but I couldn’t take it anymore”. According to investigations, after killing his mum, Emmanuel dressed up in female cloths and drove out of their apartment in a bid to fool his neighbor that his mother was the one driving out to work. His wounded mother, who didn't die immediately after the stabbing, managed to call a male friend who drove down to her apartment but met her corpse when he arrived. Emmanuel was later caught on CCTV calmly buying a can of coke and a pack of cookies at a local post office before handing himself over to police. Judge Christopher Ball QC who ruled over the case asked that a full psychiatric examination be conducted on Emmanuel. He fixed the date for his sentencing to June 2014.
