Twin explosions rocked a football viewing centre in Ajilari ward, Jere Council area of Maiduguri, in Borno State today March 1st killing several football fans, Vanguard reports. The Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), said to have been planted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists at the viewing centre at Ajilari Railway Cross, exploded at about 6pm, killing many fans, while several others sustained injuries. A residents of Ajilari told a Vanguard correspondent that, “Some suspected terrorists in two Toyota Hilux Pick Up vans, pretending to be firewood suppliers, detonated the bombs near the football viewing centre, resulting in loss of several lives.

Ukrainian Model Says She Wants To Live Off Light And Air Alone
A Ukrainian model who has cast herself as a real-life Barbie doll says she eventually hopes to live without eating or drinking.
Valeria Lukyanova, whose doll-like features and ultra-thin waist have stirred controversy in the past, has apparently made it her goal to survive “on air and light alone.”
“In recent weeks I have not been hungry at all,” Lukyanova said, according to the International Business Times. “I’m hoping it’s the final stage before I can subsist on air and light alone.”
The website linked that dietary desire to a New Age practice known as Breatharianism, in which followers neither neither eat nor drink, believing they can exist solely on “cosmic micro-food.”
Lukyanova, who believes in reincarnation and claims to have been in contact with transdimensional beings, has said she uses her appearance to promote her “spiritual ideas.”
But Jezebel.com maintains that Lukyanova is merely starving herself in order to maintain her dollish proportions.
Last year, a 65-year-old Seattle woman who went 47 days living only on water and tea, cited Breatharian yogis as her inspiration. Naveena Shine’s goal was to maintain the extreme fast for 100 days, but she called it off after receiving what she called “a message from the universe that it is time to stop.”
Commenting on Shine’s case, Dr. Ronald Hoffman, medical director of the Hoffman Center and host of a weekly health talk podcast, told the Guardian that it is “delusional to think that you can escape the laws of biology.”
At least one person has starved to death trying to adhere to a Breatharian regimen.
As the Federal Government honours 100 persons today with Centenary awards as part of Nigeria’s Centenary celebration, some of the families included in the list have rejected the awards on behalf of their late fathers. According to the Fawehinmi family, they can’t accept the award because former president, General Ibrahim Babangida who tortured and dealt with their father while alive is part of the people on the list to be honoured. They also felt their father wouldn’t have been a part of it because of the recent $20 billion missing in NNPC and would have gone to court by now. The recent killing of 43 students in FGC, Yobe State was also part of the reasons listed.
Femi Kuti also said, before they can accept such an award, if at all they would, The Federal Government needs to first apologise for killing their grandmother, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and burning of Kalakuta Republic. RE: CENTENARY AWARD TO OUR LATE FATHER, CHIEF GANI FAWEHINMI (SAN)
We acknowledge the receipt of your letter, dated February 24, 2014, which was routed through Mr Tony Akiotu, Group Managing Director, DAAR Communications, Abuja, wherein our late father, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) was chosen as one of the awardees of the Centenary celebrations of Nigeria by President Goodluck Jonathan.
We want thank the Federal Government for considering our late father for this HONOUR.
However, for reasons stated here under, our family has decided it would be inexpedient to accept the award:
1. In the list of the awardees published by the Federal Government, was the name of former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, who as military president, severally detained and tortured our late father. In the course of one of such illegal and inhuman detentions, our late father’s cell was sprayed with toxic substances while in Gashua prison in 1987. The cumulative effect of that dastardly action led to our father, a non- smoker, contracting lung cancer which eventually led to his death on September 5, 2009. We therefore, find it morally incongruous and psychologically debilitating for our family to stand on the same podium with General Babangida to receive awards.
2. Our late father was empathetic to the sufferings of our people, particularly students. In the last 72 hours, 43 innocent students were mowed down by the blood- thirsty Boko Haram terrorists in Yobe state, while 20 other girls were similarly abducted by these same band of terrorists. These girls are still in captivity while their fate is unknown. If our late father were to be alive, would he be wining and dining with all the glitterati at a Centenary celebration under these circumstances? Certainly no.
3. In the past few weeks, the polity has been assaulted with putrid odour of corruption with the alleged $20 billion missing in NNPC, a development that became the Archilles heel of Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the suspended Governor of Central Bank. As an anti-corruption activist, if he were to be alive, our late father would have confronted the issue head-long and possibly gone to court. With the issue still raging, would our late father have accepted this award at this critical moment? Certainly no.
4. Our late father was unrepentantly for the UNITY of Nigeria. However, with the level of profligacy in some of the events celebrating NIGERIA’S Centenary, our late father would have preferred these multi- million Naira expenditures channelled to our decrepit Teaching hospitals, than unproductive razzmatazz that do not improve the socio-Economic well being of our people.
Sir, for these reasons, our family respectfully declines to receive the award about to be conferred on our late father by the government.

A lot of people in Nigeria will never forget 2005 and the Sosoliso plane crash that claimed 107 lives. This was on December 10, 2005. 60 of them had been students from Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja and out of the 60, Kechi Okwuchi was the only survivor. With burns covering 60% of her body and over 75 surgeries later, Kechi’s story is one of perseverance and determination.
Kechi Okwuchi, one of the only two survivors of the crash is using a recorded video as a medium to get through to the current President of Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan with an appeal for something to be done about the aviation industry in Nigeria.
In the video she says “Your Excellency, there are many accidents and many deaths that happen in Nigeria that cannot be controlled – diseases, car accidents, even just walking on the road. But this, this is a kind of loss that can be controlled. And I’m talking about the aviation industry in Nigeria”
Kechi Okwuchi was a student of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja, but is now a student of a private Catholic university, University of St. Thomas, in Houston, Texas, USA. She spoke at the Memorial/Symposium and Presentation for the “60 Angels Memorial Staff Residence” in Abuja in honour of the 60 students of the school who died in the crash.

Abductors of Inengite Nitabai, the 70-year old uncle of President Goodluck Jonathan, have demanded a N500m ransom, Sahara Reporters report.
A security source said that the abductors threatened to kill him if the family fails to produce the money. The source also said the family had constituted a committee to evaluate the demand, establish negotiations with the abductors and facilitate his release.
He said the kidnappers had also warned against the involvement of security operatives in the matter. "The kidnappers contacted the family four days after and demanded a whopping sum of N500m. It is believed that the family of the victim has begun negotiations with the hoodlums," he said.
Tension and panic set in when the kidnappers failed to establish any contact with the family of their victim three days after he was abducted.
That development was said to have rattled the Presidency, which reportedly ordered a massive deployment of security in Otuoke, the hometown of the Jonathans, and the Niger Delta creeks. The gunmen abducted Nitabai on Sunday after collecting about N400,000 from his wife.
Over the weekend, reports surfaced online that Nollywood star, Jim Iyke, had been involved in an accident, while driving a Chevrolet Camero belonging to Nadia Buari, in Accra. But today Jim has denied being involved in in any car accident. The reports further said he went into a coma following the accident.
