Tavon White used to run his Baltimore jail. He later testified to the vast network of smuggling drugs and cell phones that he and other gang members had been part of, and both a federal judge and prosecutor praised him for his work on the case. In a scandal that has lasted over two years and has seen 35 different defendants plead guilty to involvement in the scheme, White described how the Black Guerrilla Family gang ran a smuggling operation inside the prison itself. White has even fathered four children with corrections officers during his time there. As part of a deal for his part in testifying, White will not serve additional time for his part in the conspiracy. Instead, his 12-year sentence will run concurrently with the 20-year sentence he was already serving for attempted murder. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Harding noted that White “assumed a risk he will have to live with the rest of his life” and that “his whole life is going to be different now.” But not everyone was pleased with White’s deal. Prosecutors in the case played up White’s role, even playing recordings in which White can be heard bragging, “This is my jail.” “He got a hell of a lot better deal than he deserved,” said Edward Sussman, a defense attorney whose client, a corrections officer, was acquitted. “The government paid too much for his testimony.” “I don’t think he was particularly believable,” Sussman added, noting that he was able to poke holes in White’s story easily. However, Harding pointed out that even White’s involvement in the gang-run conspiracy was positive. “He became a peacemaker in the facility,” Harding said. “He made the place less violent.” White will be returning to prison to finish out his sentence, but it will probably not be the same prison he used to “run.”
A young man, Momoh Ogirimah, who claims to be the son of a late Assistant Commissioner of Police, has been arrested for being in possession of a cache of arms including rifles, cartridges and magazines. Ogirimah, who says he is a graduate of Industrial Engineering from the Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, told the police that his late father was the Commissioner of Police in charge of operations and led the police team which was ambushed and killed by the Ombatse cult members in Nassarawa State, in 2014. He also claimed that he discovered the cache of arms after his father’s death and has been keeping them for self defence as well as using the guns to harass anyone who gets in his way. Ogririmah expressed regrets that he did not inform the police about the cache of arms in his house, confessing that he used one the guns to harass someone who had a misunderstanding with his younger brother over money. It was the victim that reported the incident to the police who thereafter discovered the cache of arms. The arms and ammunition recovered from Ogirimah include one Baretta pistol with number A07078Z said to belong to the Ondo State Command, one revolver pistol with number RUHMRG799ABL said not to be on the record of any command in the country and one locally-made pistol. Others include 133 pieces of 7.62mm ammunition, 28 pieces of .9mm ammunition, 22 pieces of 7.6mm ammunition, three bulletproof vests, one respirator, one complete set of body protector, three blasts, one hand grenade, 11 smoke cartridges, 86 life cartridges, 42 pieces of 5.56mm ammunition, two pieces of .36mm ammunition, 27 live rubber cartridges, nine .9mm rubber bullets and one anti-riot helmet.
The tactful extension of the date for this coming election was crucial to avert an elaborate and dubious plans of Buhari, APC and Jega collaboration to disenfranchise the electorates by rigging. After the council of state meeting which ended without members reaching an agreement on the possible extension of the election date, INEC was asked to seek advice and consult with stake holders, especially the military who will be tasked with providing security on the election date. The result of these consultations was obvious because, the stake holders made it clear that they were not ready for the election yet. They said, should INEC decides to go ahead with the election without waiting for a conducive time then, the consequences will be on their head alone. Hence the postponement of the election date of which APC is not happy because of how it will disrupt their evil plans to massively rig the election. Meanwhile, Jega and Buhari have carefully developed and commenced their rigging plans even before the election happened. They have developed more than 7 core strategies to use to ensure that the outcome of this election goes their way. Here are some of their plans. 1) Buhari and Jega in collaboration with some INEC officials and APC members of Hausa/Fulani Muslims origin in the north have successfully registered THOUSANDS of their people from the neighbouring countries. There are over 100,000 registered voters who are not Nigerian citizens, these people were registered in their native countries of NIGER, CHAD and CAMEROON. It is a fact that Jega and Buhari are well aware and approved of many illegal registration centres situated outside the territories of Nigeria. Their sole intention is to use this FAKE registered voters to increase Buhari’s votes and chances of winning. This strategy has been used many times in the past by the same group in both census and elections in that regions. Buhari and Jega are guilty of these crimes and they are fully aware that what they are doing is against Nigerian and International law. In fact, the most annoying part of the whole issue is that they ensured that these non-Nigerians received their PVC even before Nigerian citizens started collecting theirs. 2) Buhari and Jega also worked together to ensure that more illegal voters were registered in the Northern Muslim populated areas of Nigeria. Children as young as 4 years old have been seen parading their PVC in those areas. From the report gathered by witnesses, all the Alimagirins and every child of school age in most of the Northern Muslims populated areas have been registered and also given their PVC. There are estimated over 3 million under aged voters registered to vote in those areas with a few thousands registered across the border in Chad, Niger and Cameroon. Jega is aware of this and specifically instructed his men to go ahead with the plan. Buhari also encouraged his members to supervise this illegal activities in order to use them to secure victory at the polls. 3) Buhari and Jega have also successfully encouraged the registration of non-existent voting amputees. In Fact, only in the northern region alone, there are more than a million registered amputees. In one local government area alone in Zamfara state, there were reports of about 70 thousand registered amputees. One would begin to wonder how that is possible and how many people actually live in Zamfara state for them to have such numbers of amputees concentrated in one area. These fake amputees will be used to stack up votes for Buhari as they will be voting by proxy. 4) Jega and Buhari ensured that there are thousands of new polling stations created in the Northern Muslims dominated regions. These polling stations are mostly located near the border of Nigeria with Chad, Niger and Cameroon with the aim of granting easy access to all those illegal non Nigerian registered voters and for the Terrorist group (Boko Haram) members to vote. They expect those areas to be under the control of the insurgence during the election period so that they can easily manipulate the votes and stuff the ballot boxes with pre thumped ballot papers. Buhari has been in communication with the insurgence ever since he declared his intention to run for presidency through many secret sources that is why he is so confident that should he win, insurgency will be a thing of the past. 5) Jega and Buhari have also made sure that millions of fake PVC and Ballot papers are made available to be distributed to their supporters in some southern states. These materials are currently in the custody of some of the Northern Muslim traditional rulers. They plan to use official INCE personnel and vehicles to transport these materials to where they will be used. Jega has ensured that this plan will go ahead without any difficulties. Amechi will be instructed on using these materials to manipulate the Rivers and Bayelsa states election results. 6) Jega and Buhari also made sure that there are less voters registered in all PRO Jonathan states especially the south eastern and south southern states. They also ensured that Lagos state has similar problems. They did this by employing fewer staffs to conduct the registration, hoarding materials, deliberately delaying and slowing down registration process, instructing their (special) supervisors to destroy valid registration forms, disrupting and slowing the PVC distribution and making it hard for anyone that looks younger than 18 to register. Their aim is to ensure that most Pro Jonathan eligible voters are denied their rights to vote. 7) Jega and Buhari in their last stroll to ensure victory at the polls have made sure that more than 75% of INEC officials are Muslims from the Northern region. All the key INEC positions are occupied by Muslims that were ordained by Buhari and handpicked by Jega for the sole purpose of rigging this election. There was nothing like applying the federal characters in the selection and employment process of INEC senior officials. This fact is public knowledge as you can see the heads of INEC in most states are Muslims and the majority of INEC officials are also Muslims. There are many other dubious plans put in place by Buhari’s special team and the APC to massively disenfranchised Nigerians and to massively rig this election that are yet to be exposed.. Jega’s decision to not disqualify Buhari despite all the evidence of forgery of certificate among others, is indicative they the two men are working together. Nigerians should thank God for this postponement and keep vigilant to ensure that when this election finally holds, that there will be Zero Tolerance for rigging and manipulation. They should also demand that Jega and Buhari comes out clean with these allegations and a call for a vote of no confidence on INEC boss Jega is most appropriate at this stage. It was reign of terror, yesterday, as suspected secret cult members held a family hostage for about an hour, while workers were going to work in the early hours of the day. The cultists, numbering about seven, wielding pistols, suddenly showed up at Ogo Oluwa area of Isashi, all on motor bikes and rode straight to the residence of one Mr. Henry Omoregbe. They gained entrance on the pretence that they had a message for the family and no sooner was the gate opened than the family realized that they were under siege of the cult members. Reporters that the boys immediately started beating up every member of the family with horse whips and base ball bats, while demanding for the whereabout of a member of the family, Emmanuel Omoregbe, who they claimed had refused to carry out their instructions. Neighbours could not intervene for fear of their lives, but the head of the family, who pleaded with the young men, told them that he had also been looking for his son for about a year now. The search He showed them the police report and sworn affidavit he made in January last year, since his son left home under inexplicable circumstances. Inspite of this, they still searched the house, damaging furniture and some household appliances. Having concluded their search, they left with a warning: that the family should tell their son to make himself available or they will kill him should they find him themselves. Mr. Henry Omoregbe, a marine engineer, who came home on leave, told Us he had reported the case last year when his wife called him at work to report that their son, Emmanuel, had left home due to threats from suspected cult members, who had forced themselves in and beat one his sons, Stephen. Affidavit Showing the police report and court affidavit, he said he and his family were yet to hear from his son as efforts by the police had drawn blank. The affidavit read in part: “That due to threatening of his life from unknown secret cult gangs Emmanuel Omoregbe has to abscond and leave home.” He explained further that this whole saga started last year when Emmanuel, 20, went to Lagos State University, Ojo, to check if he had been granted admission, adding that since then he could not really say what happened except that the young man was still missing. Neighbours, who volunteered information, said they had been noticing some strange looking faces in the area for some time now, but never thought they could be dangerous elements until now. They confirmed Mr. Omoregbe’s claim of looking for his son for about a year now.

Harvard University has introduced a total ban on relationships between professors and students. Staff said they introduced the ban after considering how "power dynamics can contribute to segxwal harassment". Harvard's previous ban on staff-students affairs only applied if couples were in the same class. A committee which drafted the guidelines concluded the university needed to strengthen its language on "relationships of unequal status". Harvard University is not the only higher education college in the US to introduce such a ban Its rival Yale did so in 2010, as did the University of Connecticut in 2013. Based in Cambridge near Boston, Harvard has about 2,400 faculty members and about 6,700 undergraduate students Last May the institution appeared on a US government list of 55 institutions which had allegedly mishandled harassment complaints. In an email, Alison Johnson, a history professor who led the committee which helped revise the guidelines, told the Associated Press news agency: "We wanted to emphasize that the central characteristic of any relationship between a professor and an undergraduate in the College should be pedagogical."
A man posing as a reporter of Voice of America, Yakubu Farouk has been arrested by men of the Edo State Police Command. Nasarawa born Yakubu was arrested by men from the Oba Market Police Division on Tuesday, February 3. Yakubu it was learnt who was posing as the Niger Delta correspondent of the Hausa service of the Voice of America was apprehended as he tried to swindle N5, 000 from the Chairman of the Hausa community in Edo State, Alhaji Badamasi Saleh. Yakubi had demanded the sum, Farouk, as payment to interview the leader of the Hausa community in Edo State. According to the report, Alhaji Badamasi said he became suspicious of Farouk, when he demanded N5,000 after he interview him and asked for and asked for a ride to the Peoples Democratic Party state secretariat, where he had scheduled an interview with a candidate of the party. After realising that Yakubu was a fake reporter, Alhaji Badamasi drove to the police station instead where the con man was arrested. “So, on our way to the PDP secretariat, I called the reporter covering Niger Delta, Lamid Abubakar, who told me to get him (Farouk) arrested and hand him over to the police because he was not a VOA employee. That was exactly what I did because I have never come across any journalist interviewing and demanding money from me,” Alhaji Badamasi said. 35-year-old Yakubu who is a 2006 graduate of Mass Communication, from the Benue State Polytechnic, said he was a former reporter of a newspaper in Kaduna, Nigerian Democrat, but was sacked for allegedly embezzling an advert payment to the tune of N300, 000. “Actually, I came as a journalist and they discovered that I was not working with the medium I claimed to be working with. I have not really duped anybody; this is the first man I spoke with and I was caught,” Yakubu said. The suspect would soon be charged to court according to a statement signed by the former Commissioner of Edo State Police, Foluso Adebanjo.

A married couple-Mrs. Nwabueze Nwabueze and Mrs. Bridget Nwabueze- has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for a N16.9m scam. According to a statement by the spokesperson of the crime commission, Wilson Uwujaren, the couple along with couple was arrested alongside another suspect, Eze Ngozi for allegedly defrauding a certain Austin Emuan of the Gothic-Len Consortium Limited of N16.9m. Mr Austin Emuan allegedly made a payment of N16.9m for a non-existing contract. Wilson Uwujaren said that the Nwabuezes and Eze Ngozi were said part of a group which engaged in fraudulent acts, obtaining by false pretences and impersonation. “The suspects’ arrest followed a petition from Austin Emuan, who is the Managing Director of Gothic-Len Consortium, alleging that one Miss Joy Ozioma (now at large), Nwabueze and others, sometime in 2011, defrauded him of N16. 9m under the pretext of awarding his company a contract for construction of a cottage hospital in Obagi community by Total Nigeria Limited,” part of Wilson’s statement read. The EFCC said that one of the scammers who claimed to be traditional ruler of Obagi community connived with Eze Ngozi, who posed as an employee of Total Nigeria Limited, to defraud Emuan’s company of the said sum and 600 bags of rice before the project was discovered to be a phony deal. The suspects would be taken to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
A man who has been going around impersonating the police, Makinde Paul, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command. According to the state's Deputy Police Commissioner, Haliru Gwandu, said Paul has been parading himself as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), using that to defraud unsuspecting people in and around the state. But his time went up when he was arrested at the Adatan area of Abeokuta, the state capital. The 54-year-old suspect confessed to the crime in tears, saying it was lack of employment that made him take up the job of impersonation to take care of his family. He said he bought the uniforms from a friend who was a policeman before he died.

Megamouth sharks troll the deep sea for the smallest bits of food, plankton and krill, trapping them in the massive caves that are their jaws. They are mysterious and extraordinarily rare — and almost never seen by humans. But on Wednesday, a 15-foot adult male megamouth washed up on the shores of Barangay Marigondon in the Philippines. And according to reports, the shark was dead when fishermen discovered it. With only 64 previous sightings of this type of shark ever recorded, its discovery was thrilling. The shark’s cause of death has yet to be determined but it is believed its body will likely go on display at Albay Parks and Wildlife Centre in the Philippines. See more pics after the cut.
The policemen chose to rape her instead of arresting her when they found out she was in possession of illicit drugs. A 25-year-old girl in Abuja has revealed that she was defiled by policemen who accosted her and found illicit drugs in her possession. Abigail, who is a resident in the FCT, recounted her r*pe ordeal in the hands of policemen who she said were about to arrest her after she admitted to the use of illicit drugs. Abigail said she was defiled after the policemen chose to have sex with her instead of arresting her. “They forcefully climbed me to make love with me, so I was begging that it will just be one person but they refused and took turns to have sex with me, my body was violated,” Abigail recalled. According to YouthRISE Nigeria, a Non-Governmental organisation with support of Open Society Institute of West Africa (OSIWA), Abigail’s case is just one out of the many cases of human right abuse that young people who use drugs do experience in the hand of law enforcement officers. “Other cases include arbitrary and prolonged arrest, denial of access to justice, extortion, being beaten, getting locked up without food for days, s*xual harassment, r*pe, forced rehabilitation and use of severe torture to make people drug free. The perpetrators of these abuse are not limited to law enforcement officers but included family members, religious centres and many more,” the NGO revealed their statement.
The world's oldest man has celebrated his 112th birthday with his family in Japan. Sakari Momoi, a Japanese former agricultural chemistry teacher, became the world's oldest man after his predecessor Alexander Imich died at the age of 111 years and 124 days in 2014. Momoi was born on 5 February 1903 in Fukushima city , just one day after Imich. He has five children and currently lives in a hospital in Tokyo. He married the late Ms Tamiko in 1928. Momoi responded with a smile as his family helped him celebrate on Thursday (5 February), his third son Hiroo, 66, told news agency Kyodo. Momoi participates in some of the hospital's activities such as throwing a ball and practicing calligraphy, according to the family. The world's oldest woman is Leandra Becerra Lumbreras, a 127-year-old Mexican who fought in the 1910 Mexican Revolution. Lumbreras has 20 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren and 55 great-great grandchildren. She attributes her long life to sleeping full days and keeping herself entertained by doing sewing and weaving. Lumbreras, however, is not officially recognised as the world's oldest human, as she lost her birth certificate some 40 years ago. The Mexican authorities are in the process of supplying her with a new one. Until then Japan's Misao Okawa, aged 116, will hold the title.
According to Eye witness, the incident happened early this morning at Gudu roundabout in Abuja. He said policemen in their van were chasing a Keke driver and during the chase, the Keke tumbled and caught fire. The only passenger in the Keke managed to escape unhurt but the driver wasn't so lucky. Bonario said seeing the Keke and driver on fire, the police quickly left the scene, leaving the man to burn to death. He said this enraged other Keke drivers and some people who witnessed the incident and they began to protest. He said it took the intervention of military men to disperse the protesters.
