No fewer than 48 shops and properties worth millions of Naira were on Tuesday burnt to ashes at Gombe old Market as a result of fire incident.
Chairman of the market, Malam Mohammad Abba, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the incident occurred in the night, adding that the cause of the fire had not been identified.
He said that about 300 shop owners lost their goods to the inferno.
According to him, some of the shops consist of various goods, while the shops occupy by some tailors were also affected by the inferno.
He advised the shop owners to take it as an act of God and to be careful in handling everything that had to do with electricity.
Abba called on government to come to the aid of the victims.
Some of the victims also said that they were suspecting that the fire was caused by electrical fault.
However, they commended the men of Fire Service and the security agents for their immediate response.
They appealed to Gombe State Government and public spirited individuals to assist them.

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, on Sunday said that in 2017, God would grant President Muhammad Buhari the solution to the numerous challenges facing the country.
Kumuyi gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen when he played host to the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, who led some members of the Assembly on courtesy visit to the church’s December Convention.
The cleric said, “We talk of the hours of recession, difficulty, distress and all that, but God is granting us His promises. We are not going to carry over our problems. “We pray and believe that the Lord will answer.
“As you will see, as we get to the New Year, there is no carryover of our problems. God will give solutions to the problems of our lives, families, communities, the state and our nation.”

(Reuters) A truck plowed into a crowded Christmas market in central Berlin on Monday evening, killing nine people and injuring up to 50 others, police said, in what appeared to be one of the deadliest attacks in Germany in decades.
Police said on Twitter that they had taken one suspect into custody and that another passenger from the truck had died as it crashed into people gathered around the wooden huts serving mulled wine and sausages at the foot of the Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church in the heart of west Berlin.
"We heard a loud bang," Emma Rushton, a tourist, told CNN. "We started to see the top of an articulated truck, a lorry ... just crashing through the stalls, through people."
The incident evoked memories of an attack in Nice, France in July when a Tunisian-born man drove a 19-tonne truck along the beach front, mowing down people who had gathered to watch the fireworks on Bastille Day, killing 86 people. That attack was claimed by Islamic State.
Police at the scene told German media that the crash appeared to be a deliberate act.
PEOPLE URGED TO STAY AWAY
A government spokesman said Chancellor Angela Merkel was being briefed by her interior minister and the Berlin mayor on the situation. Police said there were no indications of further dangerous situations in the area and urged people to stay away from scene.
"I'm deeply shaken about the horrible news of what occurred at the memorial church in Berlin," Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said. "Many people who visited the Christmas market today have died and even more are injured."
The truck veered into the market at what would have been one of the most crowded times, when adults and children would be gathering in the traditional cluster of wooden huts that sell food and Christmas goods in an annual celebration replicated across Germany and much of Central Europe.
Rushton told CNN the truck seemed to be traveling at about 40 mph (65 Kmh). Asked how many were injured, she said that as she walked back to her hotel, she saw at least 10.
Julian Reichelt, editor in chief of Bild Berlin, said that there was currently a massive security operation under way.
"The scene certainly looks like a reminder of what we have seen in Nice," Reichelt said.

Two women have been confirmed dead, while 17 other persons sustained various degrees of injuries following the collapse of market stalls at Urua Edet-Obo, a popular market at Ikot Akpatek in Onna LGA of Akwa Ibom.
The state Police Commissioner, Murtala Mani, confirmed the tragic incident in a telephone conversation with journalists on Monday in Uyo.
“Two women died during the tragedy caused by the collapse of an old wall that fell on them. Others who sustained injuries have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” Mr. Mani said.
A witness said the remains of the dead victims had been deposited at Immanuel Hospital in Eket, a neighbouring local government area.
The witness added that some of the injured victims, many of them women, were responding to treatment in the hospital.
The incident happened nine days after a Church building collapse claimed scores of lives at Reigners Bible Church in Uyo on Dec. 10.

The Nigerian pop star was unable to fly into Uganda from USA for the concert scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 3 at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’ according to the organisers.

The singer, who is presently tending to health issues in the US, and his manager, were summoned to be produced in court on or before January 16, 2017.

Substantial expenses in booking and re-booking flights, hotel, venue, advertising and promotions for the concert grossed over $300,000 (over N144m), according to the organisers.
‘Between 29th August 2016 and 29th November 2016, our client (Face TV) paid to Mr. Sunday Are, Wizkid’s manager the full performance fee of US$60,000, a brokerage fee of US$5,000 and US$3,000 being per diem for the days they were going to stay in Uganda,’ documents filed by the Chief Magistrates Court of Buganda detailed.
Complaints lodged against Wizkid and his manager include cheating, conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false presences which could sum up to a 11 year jail term if they’re found guilty.
Over 25,000 Ugandans had paid for tickets in anticipation of Africa’s biggest musician of 2016.
Doctors have advised Wizkid to cancel all shows in December and January 2017 due to his ill health. He’s presently surrounded by close friends and family including his son, Boluwatife.
Zimbabwe's ruling party has endorsed 92-year-old President Robert Mugabe as its candidate in a national election scheduled for 2018.
The ZANU-PF party announced the endorsement Saturday at an annual conference in the southeast town of Masvingo. The party's youth wing even proposed that Mugabe should rule for life with broad powers.
In a speech Friday, Mugabe acknowledged that some people within the ruling party wanted him to quit and he warned officials to stop squabbling as a succession battle intensifies.
Mugabe has been in power since the southern African nation's independence from white minority rule in 1980.
