Actually this group The Neo-Black Movement of Africa (also called Black Axe) emerged from the University of Benin in Edo State. Just like groups like pyrates which was founded by Wole Soyinka and co at the University of Ibadan. These groups didn't start as a violent group but was made violent by politicians and these started during IBB regime

This is supposed to be a movement which unites youths with common progressive goals and interests for the betterment of the society.In the past you can't just be a "cultist",you need to have a certain ability,a certain level in the society before you qualify to be a member.But today anybody can be a member;even a wheelbarrow pusher and agbero for motor park,just anybody.Look at what they've turned it into,guys killing eachother for no obvious reason,just to prove yourself to be a "hardman".
