Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be cultists, on Saturday night killed a lecturer at the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State, identified as Mr. Tade Adufe.

The late Adufe was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education Foundation, College of Applied Education and Vocational Technology in the institution until his murder on Saturday.

It was learnt that the deceased, who was killed while returning to his private home at Odomasa, Ilese-Ijebu, around 8.30pm, was shot severally by the gunmen and thrown into a gully opposite the College of Health Technology in the town when it was apparent that he was dead.

The late lecturer, a native of Iwo, Osun State, who joined the university as a youth corps member in 1989, when the school was a college of education, was killed a few metres away from his house,

The Public Relations Officer of TASUED, Mr. Gbenga Omilola, recalled that the late Adufe, who was fondly referred to as Bishop, was elected a few weeks ago with three other members of the school into the Senate of the institution.

Omilola said, “The news of the sudden death of Mr. Wale Adufe came as a rude shock to the entire university community. Adufe was just elected alongside with three other members of staff to the Senate congregation of this institution.

“His death is a great loss to this school. He was loved by everyone, a very accommodating fellow and one of the best hands that we had.”

The school’s spokesman added that the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olukayode Oyesiku, led the university community to his burial at the deceased’s Ilese home on Sunday afternoon.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, explaining that the hoodlums, apart from killing the deceased, also snatched a car to facilitate their escape from the scene of the crime.

Adejobi added that policemen from the Igbeba Division of the state command, acting on a tip-off, pursued the hoodlums and were able to recover the car, after engaging the assailants in a gun battle.

The PPRO, who said the police were not able to arrest any of the hoodlums, however, explained that some of the suspected killers escaped with bullet wounds.
