Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has issued a firm warning against roadside preachers using loudspeakers in public areas, particularly in markets, emphasizing that such activities contribute to noise pollution and public disturbance.
In a viral video circulating on social media platform X on Saturday, March 8, 2025, the Governor was seen addressing an unidentified preacher at a marketplace, instructing him to stop disrupting traders with loud sermons.
Soludo stressed that violators of the state's noise pollution regulations would face a fine of ₦500,000, reiterating that public spaces should not be turned into religious grounds.
“If you want to preach, go to your church or rent an open space,” the Governor stated. “This is a marketplace, not a church. You cannot force traders and buyers to listen to your preaching. We have banned loudspeakers in markets because excessive noise affects people’s health.”
He further warned that his administration would intensify its crackdown on unauthorized religious activities in public spaces, particularly targeting fake pastors and prophets exploiting the system.
The directive underscores the state government's commitment to regulating public disturbances and ensuring a more peaceful business environment in Anambra.
