Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Coming on the morning after Mardi Gras, it is for many people a sobering reminder of the 40-day period of purification and renewal that comes before Easter. Things You’ll Need:

Step1 Consider attending a church for an Ash Wednesday service. Before mass in a Catholic church, the priest will dip his thumb into previously blessed ashes, then use them to mark your forehead in the shape of a cross as he says, "Remember, man, that thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return." Step2 Reflect quietly on your personal relationship to God, and set some time aside to grow in holiness. Ash Wednesday is a good time to think about what's really significant in your life, or life in general, and to try to set your priorities straight.
Step3 Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Lent, if you're Catholic. If you're not Catholic or you're not religious in a formal way, you can simply contemplate the meaning of Ash Wednesday as the beginning of a time of repentance, reflection and prayer.
Step4 Think about fasting on this Ash Wednesday, whether giving up one meal or abstaining from food the whole day.
Step5 Obtain the Lenten Regulations, which may differ from church to church, to e[/color]

as for me i dont see any reasonable thing in ash wesday bcos am a penticostal believer am not a chatholic and even the lent fasting also is not evering church that practice it. bcos JESUS dont ask us to do so. so we dont make our self equil wit GOD taking 40 days fasting is making our self equeil with him, what JESUS Commmand us to do in remenbrance is the LORDs fest

Dude thanks for the post I am trying my best to observe the lenten period but we must'nt fast from food only but also from sin

The bible does encourage prayer and fasting. Matthew 6:16-18 that when we fast, we are to do it unto the Lord. Bible presents fasting as something that is good, profitable, and expected. Those in the bible fasted before they made important decisions. And also, there are other ways you can fast, not just giving up food, instead give up things you love for a period of time.
