When tragedies like Black Sunday happen, people start to ask questions about suffering and pain and why God allows it even in the life of believers. Here are two resources that give biblical, realistic and hope-giving answers to these questions.

I'm giving away one copy of each of these. If you'd like one, let me know by sending an email to 4getdfish_at_gmail.com* by Mon, June 11 at 9.00pm Lagos time. Include your name, which one you want, why you want it and the address to send it to. If I pick your name, it will be sent to you, no strings attached. (Only condition: your address must be a Nigerian address.):

If God Is Good, Why Do We Hurt? Every one of us will experience suffering...evil is real in our world, present and close to each one of us. In this condensed version of the book by the same title, Randy Alcorn offers insights from his conversations with men and women whose lives have been torn apart by suffering, and yet whose faith in God burns brighter than ever. He reveals the big picture of who God is and what God is doing in the world–now and forever. And he equips us to share our faith more clearly and genuinely in this world of pain and fear.

Suffering and the Sovereignty of God [DVD]: This is not a video that deals with suffering as an abstract principle. The six contributors are equipped to speak about suffering because they have suffered: paralysis, cancer, the loss of parents and children. It provides encouragement that God is sovereign, that His purposes are being worked out in suffering, and that even through the darkest trials there is hope.

The assumption is that (a) God is Good and (b) that He is in control of everything.

You're wrong on both counts!
