Abubakar had ordered all promoted officers not to resume office until they are decorated with their new ranks but the two officers, AIGs Alex Emeka Okeke (in charge of Medical) and Julius Ayodele Ishola (Veterinary) ignored the instructions.
Abubakar disclosed this while decorated the promoted officers with their insignias yesterday in Abuja.
A total of 41 senior officers including one Deputy Inspector General, eight AIGs and 32 Commissioners were recently promoted by the Police Service Commission recently (PSC).
When it was the turn of the two officers to be given the AIG insignia, Abubakar briefly delayed their decoration, saying he would not decorate them until after he decorated their juniors (commissioners).
“It was me that recommended for your promotions but you begun parading yourselves as AIGs while you were commissioners and assumed work without my permission. I was expecting letters from the PSC confirming the promotions before I notify you. If you don’t know the right thing to do, we shall teach you. This administration will not tolerate this kind of attitude and indiscipline,” he said.
Abubakar said the promotions of junior officers will commence on September 1st, adding that the “the delay was caused by the rehabilitation works going on at various police colleges.”
Those decorated included DIG Philemon I. Leha, AIGs Christopher Dega, Aliyu Musa, Bala A. Hassan, Tambari Y. Muhammed and Ibrahim Abdu.
Chairman of the PSC Parry B. Osayande said henceforth there won’t be any special promotion and that promotions would now be based “on existing vacancies, merit and passing of prescribed exams.”
